OT: Fair Haven, NJ

Parents still there half the year and sister with her family lives there now. As did I for a bit.

I'm lucky in the fact I think my guys (15 and 12) get it.

I wish I could say I was as aware as your guys seem to be, but that would be quite a ways from the truth. You are lucky.

Married into Rutgers (wife RU 05/Duke 08). We closed on a home in Fair Haven the other day. Small town-communal feel, commutability to NYC, great schools, and proximity to red bank and the shore- are what sold us.

Nice home warming gift from Mother Nature.

Before moving to FL in 2015 I lived for 15 years in Middletown, very close to Rumson/Fair Haven. Agree with all the great compliments for the area in this thread.

As mentioned above some of our favorite spots in the area are Hartshorne Woods, the view of the ocean from Mount Mitchell and Twin Lights Lighthouse, Sandy Hook in the offseason and the drive along Ocean Ave into Atlantic Highlands overlooking Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook.

Have lived all over NJ and this was by far the best area for quality of life.

How are we not best friends in real life? Arrested Development fan living in Red Bank who loves Rutgers football?

Hahaha... I think I just blue myself.

To the person recommending the globe today... sadly they never answered their phone. Only spot that I know is open is Branigans.... and Vals in Rumson.

For Rutgers games, while I'm two blocks from the Globe, I kinda hate it. Their burgers are overrated, and the place just has so much potential. It's been there since before 1870... it should be iconic, not what it is. Although I did just lift a real nice Rutgers pitcher from there last week.

Tommys in the galleria is a good spot for games. Cheap drinks, great specials, good wings and pizza. The bartenders there are also very generous.

I think the Tommy from Tommy's in the Galleria was partners in the same venture that is now Tommy's Tap in Sea Bright.

I think you are right. I believe Tom Bonfiglio is involved in all the Tommy's Coal Fired Pizza locations and Tommy's Tap And Tavern in Sea Bright as well.

He once was, but from everything I've been told, he was kicked out of the franchise that bears his name. Hence the reason why he opened Sea Bright.

The SB spot looks the spot, but the execution is comical. They opened to late in the summer and had to hire a lot of third rate help. The hostesses are often clueless when it's busy (I know two unaffiliated people who bot waited 2+ hours and had their table given away and were told they'd have to wait again) A neighbor was a server there... the kitchen has no real chef overseeing the operation and is way too small for a restaurant that size. It's impossible for them to keep up.

Anyway, if you go on an off night it's ok. Not worth the hype. Especially when red bank is 10 mins away and more consistent

Far as I can see, there is no off night. Drive by their frequently and it is packed. Went Friday night to Woody's (great place), and Tommy's was packed. Woody's was pretty quiet.

Hard to tell who is involve with all the coal fired places that popped up throughout the shore. I used to go to one in Bradley Beach and still go to one in Wall. Not sure if he was involved in these also or if these are spin-offs from the original partnership.

Wife and I are close to offering on a house in Fair Haven, NJ. We live in Hoboken now, and are both from up north Jersey, (I-78 strip). Does anyone live in or around the area, and have any opinion?
Any pros or cons you can share on the town?

Obviously, as we're close to an offer we know enough about the town to be comfortable, but this board is always great for last minute advice, tips, or negatives overall.

For background, we have a 1 year old daughter, and I work in downtown NYC so would take the ferry up to Pier 11. The commute alone is worth it for me compared to out on I-78 somewhere.

Thanks

(Sorry for the OT during this busy recruiting time)
Live in rumson right next door. Awesome place make the move.

Prime NJ real estate. Shore, Schools, NYC transport. But.....Very High cost of admission property/property taxes. I live nearby but dot not get fleeced by this districts property tax.

Plus loads of NIMBY's
