I think we can all agree on this one:
Flash Gordon (w Sam Jones)
The movie Roadhouse surfaced in Knight Shift’s Michigan State Haiku thread and it got me thinking about my favorite “bad movies.” Movies that are so bad they are good; movies we watch over and over even though we know they are terrible. Secret guilty pleasures. Roadhouse would make my top five, but off the top of my head the winner would be The Replacements with Keanu Reeves. Any other nominations?
Commando was a cinematic delight.Commando
"NAUGHTY!.......PUNISH!!!"If your looking for something seasonal, Silent Night Deadly Night. Forget all the sequels, in can't anymore absurdly funny than the original serial killing Store Santa. Drink liberally....
Hard to pick the academy award winner for best picture as a bad movie.
Good call!Weird Science
"Right in the family jewels"
No, No, NO!Last one -
2000 - Snatch - Guy Ritchie flick - Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Benicio Del Toro
The very definition of a "cult classic."Just thought of another fave but I don't know if it fits in this category: The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension. I can't decide if this is a great bad movie I can't help but watch, or actually a pretty decent movie. It certainly was bizzare. The cast was good:
Peter Weller, Lohn Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum, Ellen Barkin, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Hedeya.
I would welcome the opinion of anyone who has seen this movie as to where it falls: Great bad movie or decent flick.
"I don't work on January 8th ... 'cuz that's Elvis's birthday!"DC Cab
The way this was working is....it's so bad - It's great. I agree with you about the dialogue. Snatch and Collateral have killer dialogue. No, No, NO!
This movie is awesome! "Snatch is a bad movie" said nobody EVER. The dialogue alone in this movie was worth its weight in gold.
"Who took the jam out of your doughnut?"
"You took the ****ing jam out of my doughnut. You did."
"You said get a good deal."
"I fail to recognize the correlation between losing ten grand, hospitalizing Gorgeous George, and a good deal."

I cant put the original Red Dawn on my list because I consider that a cinematic masterpiece
hmm.. Lake Placid.. wow.. you may have nailed it.. what should be a bad movie that is actually good... you know what.. maybe I was wrong (above) about Night Shift and 5th Element.. nah.. just because the premise is odd or simple or fluff.. that doesn't make the movie "bad"... the cast can make the movie even when everything else is "bad".. the movie is still good.
Lake Placid is a good movie. Anaconda.. not so much.
If we tweak the OP to mean "guilty pleasure" movies.. I would add something from the 80s "starring" Gary Busey and Annette O'Toole.. "Foolin' Around"... it should be bad.. but its good.
I added the following and then re-thought it.. there has to be a level of "bad" movies above the "worst" movies. But I will leave it here for completeness...
******************
Check the list of all-time bad movies.. if you have a favorite there you are in safe territory.. example: heavens Gate.. I like it. I see Showgirls has already made the list and Striptease is probably on deck for someone.
If you like any movie made about a video game... that probably belongs in this thread.

Not a specific movie but either the original Mystery Science Theater or the one currently on Netflix are great. The premise is this guy Joel was sentenced to watch rally bad movies and he made some robot friends who proceed to make witty remarks throughout each movie. Really clever!
He’s absolutely terrible. Never found a single thing he’s done funny.Anything with Will Ferrell. Never liked his "just being stupid" comedy.

Good to know. To tell you the truth, I don't know all that many people who have seen it. But I have made up for it with the number of times I have watchd it. :)The very definition of a "cult classic."
I've seen Bukaroo a lot of times. It's just one of those movies I have to watch when on, like a fly drawn to a light. It's friggin weird as hell though.Good to know. Agree with Siskel and Ebert. Also thought Predator was great.-------------
Fargo was nominated for multiple academy awards, but got juiced out by
"the english patient".... most thought this was a travesty
Siskel and Ebert thought it was one of the best films ever made
it would be hard to put this in the bad category
disagree also with Predator....... rated 4 stars by some reviewers
My first rule of filmmaking always was, if you want a mediocre movie to be good, a good movie to be better, and a shit movie to be great put Patrick Swayze in it. The Swayzemonster was the best. The movie Roadhouse surfaced in Knight Shift’s Michigan State Haiku thread and it got me thinking about my favorite “bad movies.” Movies that are so bad they are good; movies we watch over and over even though we know they are terrible.
