Okay.... I'm hoping this can be a fun/entertaining.. perhaps even informative thread.

I'll be going Las Vegas this coming weekend May 12-15 and will have Saturday all to myself whilst the GF and her friend enjoy the not so dulcet tones of the Sick New World Music Festival. I wouldn't consider myself a gambler but do play slots and some Black-Jack now and again. We do have some things planned, when they're not headbanging at the festival.. The Omega Mart at Meow Wolf. The Cirque shows O and Love and a reservation at the Golden Tiki.

Looking for recommendations for possible fun things to do: sights, attractions, places to eat, grab a drink, etc. on the Saturday to myself. ( @mildone - No, I'm not searching for hookers and blow!! LOL. I'm guess neither would be terribly hard to find. )

What are anyone's favorites, out there in the Land of Sin?
Thanks.

I always enjoyed going to Fremont Street (the old Las Vegas with the neon cowboy shooting his pistols. The area is also known as Glitter Gulch). Every hour (or half hour?) at night, a canopy above your head and running all the way down the street puts on an electric show that's pretty impressive. Also I always liked the "old" places that started the place.

I have to admit, though, I haven't been there in 20 years and have heard things have changed dramatically.

Tons of great restaurants. Was just there for a trade show and saw the Love show at the Mirage a few weeks ago. Pretty cool

Cool show if you sit outside the Lakeside restaurant as well.

The barber shop at the Cosmo is pretty cool as well. Speakeasy type place that had live band kereoke (band was great). Not sure if they have that every night.

Some nice golf courses as well if u golf.

Have fun

Catch an nba game in a sports book and enjoy the people watching is where I’d be headed. Never a dull moment there

I am going tomorrow through Sat. Which sports books are considered the best these days?

See the Fountains at Bellagio, Mirage Volcano (if still operational, the property is switching to a Hard Rock), the Flamingos at Flamingo, take picture at the Welcome to Vegas sign, Caesars forum shops - All free -

I want to recommend the Cosmopolitan Casino, not for gambling, but for the food….they have an area that is creatively designed (including a hidden pizza shop and a pawn shop facade that leads down a hidden staircase to a nice restaurant. Also, they have Eggslut, which is probably the coolest place I ever had a quick breakfast.

There’s a lot to do in Vegas and it’s over a lot more miles than people realize. Asking what to do in one day is like like asking what to see in Manhattan in one day.

What types of things do you most like to do? How much are you willing/wanting to travel around?

I would concur having been there a bunch. If you're only there for a weekend I would scout out what I want to do when I return with more time.
Vegas is as varied as it is great. Forget about All the cool $h!t within driving distance. All depends on what you're into. Downtown is cool. The big sports books are great.

Spent a week there for my daughter's 21st birthday. She wanted to go to a sports book in AC 😝😝. Told her no way on earth. We're going to Vegas if a sports book is what you want. Huge Air B&B just outside town. Did all the touristy stuff. Took her to Texas Station to gamble cheap and learn. Had a great time. Hit all the spots she wanted to see. Only thing the kids missed out on was the roller coaster on top of the tower. Closed for wind while they were on line.😒.

Even just a weekend will be fun. Vegas is a blast. Have a great trip.

The H&B would probably be a little hard to avoid, let alone not hard to find. 😀

Sounds like you are doing it right already.. hope you have a great.. and safe.. but not too safe.. time. Hope this thread yields good advice... mine would be too stale by now... like, be sure to catch the Rat Pack at the Sahara. Tell you what though... not sure it still happens or is as easy to do when I did it.. but I took a plane from there to the grand canyon for a day trip.. met some friends who insisted I stay overnight at the canyon.. flew back to vegas the next morning.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Unfortunately won't have a car, or the time, to really get out of town to see some of the surrounding Nature. I'd love to as I'm sure it's phenomenal and I've never really explored that part of the country.

Am definitely going to check out Fremont. Walk the strip try and see the Bellagio Fountains, the indoor canal at the Venetian, find a couple of the hidden places at the Cosmopolitan, go shopping at Planet 13... should be a good day. Have the Cirque show 'O' on Friday night, LOVE on Sat. night.
... and try and find some $5 Blackjack tables that pay 3:2.

Walk the strip (day time)
Bellagio fountains & sportsbook
Aligiant stadium tour
Tons of great steakhouses
Pools w cabanas at hotels
See a show at night
Vegas is good but it’s like Cape May - 3 days in and out and you’re good

Take some roofies, ride a tiger, marry a stripper, kidnap a baby, lock a little dude up in your trunk, win 80 grand at blackjack, and be sure to document it all in graphic photos, which you share with the board.
I posted a meme from the movie, but no one found it funny.🤷‍♀️

Circa downtown is best for that. First new hotel on Fremont-- no one under 21 let in , very loud however and a great place if you're into the crazy atmosphere of " frat" bros watching games and it's has largest sports book stadium in Vegas.

Walking the strip?? Wear sneakers and be prepared to kill the little time you'll be there. There's a big distance between resorts and in my opinion all you'll be doing is fighting crowds meandering. Better to visit some hotels like the brand New Resorts World and hop in and out by cab. Beware its not easy getting users or cabs on weekend and the entire strip is being repaved for Nascar race. It's a mess.

That's for the info. Yeah I wasn't going to walk the entire thing. More I look at Google maps, more I'm realizing the distances between things. We're staying at Resorts World. Definitely a few resorts that are on the list and will probably Uber/Cab between when I can.

Be forewarned: if you want to simply cross the street in Vegas, give yourself 15-20 minutes to do so.

that's a really nice place and the Asian food there is great. they have a new art exhibit in the vacant lot next to the place ,it costs though, if you like that new stuff. walk across street to the wynn that's a great place too.

Small travel tip if you don't want to get price gouged in the casino for room basics like water or some beers to have there. You don't want to buy that stuff in the casino gift shop, unless you don't care about the money. If you are staying at Resorts World, right on the strip across the street from you is a Walgreens. There's a bunch of Walgreens and CVS up and down the street with nice selections of cold beverages and cold beer. I always grab all my beverages there for while at the room or walking the strip.
There's a little strip mall across the street there that doesn't look like much too with "Century Food Mart". Even cheaper than Walgreens or CVS if you need some beverage supplies. Basic market, with cheap souvenirs and all that.

Also, since you're at the north end of the strip there, a landmark in Vegas is across the street -- Peppermill Las Vegas. It's been there about 50 years now and is a pretty famous local place. Well known for breakfast, but serves well into the late night a nice menu. A quintessential Vegas legend.

I usually stay at Venetian/Palazzo so I am partial to that place and have been going to Vegas quite often for almost 25 years now. So much has changed, but just enjoy your trip and have a blast. I used to like to just grab some beers and walk the strip and wander and go into as many casinos as possible just to check them out.

Nothing quite like the first time you see that strip. My first trip there is still one of my most favorite after going for over two decades now.

If you change your mind all of this available at your hotel doorstep on the Strip.

As I said the other day just got to Vegas today. Currently at Beer Park at the Paris Paris enjoying some afternoon baseball and soccer with a beer. It's outside under a roof across from the Bellagio. Nice little spot for some day drinking and sports watching.
