More than a few people on this board thought at the time that he would have been a good replacement for Eddie Jordan here. Rice won back to back NEC championships. But since then, 11-20 last year and now 0-10 to start the season. I wonder how his team has gone so far off the tracks.

The schedule is way over their heads for a low major.

He has a young team and IMO you need to mix it up with some W's.

I wish they were on the RU schedule.

This is after he ran a kid off the team that had gone to Roselle Catholic instead of letting the kid play his senior year and is probably banned from their gym.

There's more than one story about Rice maybe not being the best person. Didn't he blow up at a student radio host too?

Call me petty. I am so happy to see him do bad. He has it coming to him.

I'd love to see how the bench looks now. He was and is a jerk for allowing it to happen.
Yes, bench mob was annoying. The bigger it grew in the media, the more contrived it became. When it was an organic display of enthusiasm, fine. But it soon became preening for the cameras and constantly showing up opponents by guys who barely played a minute.

Some of the recent slide attributable to staff changes? Did he lose a recruiter?

No more bench mob to say the least. I attend many Monmouth games and Rice doesn't coach. He's sort of like from the Eddie Jordan School of Coaching in the sense he just lets the 5 kids on the floor do whatever they want without much tutoring or discipline when they play erratic or out of control. There s a kid on the team ray salnave who Jordan recruited and the kid is a chuck machine and rice does nothing to haul him in. Also rice's son went to another school to play basketball granted I believe a much better academic school. There's something off with King Rice and given the lack of success as of late one wonders how much longer he has at Monmouth. As someone posted above, team is young but there's really only 1 decent player on the team - deon Hammond. For Rice' s standpoint the only games that really matter is the Maac tourney so his attitude may be let my kids take their lumps and we ll be better for it in the long run. Rice had his chance for 2 years when Justin Robinson dominated the maac and couldn't get it done. Further the star player that he was Counting on this year left early for the draft in an amazingly non logical move. And he was also hurt for basically all of last year. He was a good player and would have made a difference for Monmouth this year

I think the player was Pierre Sarr. Head scratcher. Not a good player but he also seemed to be a terrific kid who I never saw exhibit any bad attitude or anything like that.

Yeah, I believe that was it. Why would you burn a relationship with one of the best high school programs in the country to run off a nice kid with 1 year of eligibility?

Yup - he had that brief moment with the program on fire for two years - also a valuable lesson for lower mid major coaches to go not stay too long

No clue. I remember when it happened even Josh Newman the app reporter covering Monmouth was surprised. Sarr could have been In Monmouths rotation and move was a head scratcher especially given the excellent character of Sarr.

Did he have offers from bigger programs then?

Ha! I have a friend who is from that area who went to Rutgers then became a Monmouth fan and was laughing at Rutgers basketball. He insisted Rutgers were fools for not hiring him away from Monmouth.

That would have been terrible

It’s a great venue, especially when they are good. Justin Robinson was very talented and a great kid, bummer they couldn’t get over the hump with him and seagers. Amazed he couldn’t cash that run into a decent recruiting pipeline. He does not seem to be a strong x and o guy.
