OT: New Music (Released January 2020 or Later)

yeah something out of the 80s too...there is a bit of Dream Academy Life In a Northern Town but also some other song

wistful nostalgia

Im really liking this. this may be the best new song I have heard all you. What happened to real music like this. I see they are not spring chickens either
There is quite a bit of it in this thread. Maybe not to everyone's taste, but musicians playing instruments and singers singing without auto-tuning.

This recorded tune is not recent, but I wanted to add this to this thread. This was recorded some time ago, but it represents what I think is missing in contemporary popular music. We have a young guitar player who understands that emotiveness and feel is what truly matters. Chris Buck is a young guitarist out of Wales who gets it. A lot of Hendrix, Clapton, SRV influence here. Covering an Otis Redding tune.

Awesome.
Thanks RUGuitarMan.
I gotta check out more of this guy's stuff.

Did you like the show?

Yeah it was pretty good. I like some of the songs and the band performed well. I tend to go to a gig when the crowd is cool and mostly girls. Placebo is solid girlfan band. No Rammstein or Slipknot for me lol

"Running-up That Hill" is a good tune and I like the song (Every You Every Me ) from opening scene from 'Cruel Intentions' (filming over largest graveyard in America). Special Needs and Teenage Angst are good. The songs are clever and the guitar is decent. Molko is a little nasal but he sing-talks and it works. I don't know what the band is like now but if they are still tight I would see them again.

Here is the vid my friend is in (shes one of about six people who get their own close-ups, and stood against a wall they cut to). I'm still friends with her (she's a mum with kids now)

Rammstein is on my bucket list of live shows to go to. Those guys can put on a spectacle.

Indeed. Rammstein is a little dark for me but I appreciate they do a big show. But I avoid shows with pyrotechnics. Its not just the fire itself but if something goes awry you can get stampeded like just happened in Houston.

The hottest show I ever went to was Kiss and Motley Crue. Unbelievable pyrotechnics.

I grew-up in a mostly R&B town. We were mellow music wise. The only guys I knew who were really into the metal bands, were the Honor Society fellas who would drink a case of beer down the river on Saturday night, and bang their heads against car hoods lol

like the music and the lyrics but do not like the whiny voice of the lead singer on this, I think another vocalist would make this a great song
Did a little research on them and Placebo is an Placebo is an LGBT act, and some have speculated this song is about gay love. The band has said it is open to interpretation. Not that it should matter, as with any type of art, there can be different interpretations and meaning. The singer's voice is not that bad to me, but I can see how not everyone would like it.

oh I know some of their songs..they had that big one Pure Morning and running up that hill though was an inferior cover to the original but it did bring the song to an audience who had never heard something like that before.

I never took to the Kate Bush version of RUTH
Placebo felt the original was too fast and I agree with that
The pounding percussion with Molko's monotone vocals really adds dimension to a Bush song that was sort of arty (dancers in video etc)
Bush liked the Cebo version

The best guitar solo I've seen since Gary Clark Jr. at Clapton's Crossroads GuitarFest performance years ago....I think it was 2013.

Yes, it is outstanding. I just recently found out about this guy. There is some good stuff out there if you look for it, even for my “old world” tastes.

Brandi Carlisle..wow now this a real live musical performance.

I was shocked SNL would actually have something this good on

Reminds me of Sass Jordan was a real talanted Canadian blues rockerwho a string of hits in the early to mid 90s most notably High Road Easy

@Knight Shift since you're into the heavy stuff...what were your fav albums of the year?
That's a tough one. Really not much moved me.
The only albums that I added to Apple Music were Dinosaur Jr.'s Sweep It Into Space and Ayron Jones' Child of the State.

I looked at the lists of top hard rock albums from Consequence of Sound and Loudwire, and I did not recognize many of the artists.

Really? I had quite a few metal/heavier albums that I put on repeat a lot...

Jinjer - Wallflowers
Gojira - Fortitude
Architects - For Those that Wish to Exist
Vola - Witness
Alien Weaponry - Tangaroa
Royal Blood - Typhoons
Sleep Token - This Place Will Become Your Tomb
Spiritbox - Eternal Blue
The Pretty Reckless - Death by Rock and Roll

Taste in music, like other art, varies by the person.

Personally, not a fan of Jinjer, Gojira, Alien Weaponry.
Heard the title song from The Pretty Reckless and liked it.
Spiritbox- think I heard a song or two, and thought they were OK.
May have heard songs from other groups listed, but would not be able to name them.
Listened to Jose Mangin's countdown on either Octane or xL Metal, and nothing really moved me.

In no particular order: r&b based rock (horns are a major plus-e.g., Ayron Jones, Springsteen, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Creedence-to name just a few); hard rock with good lyrical content and no guttural vocals (e.g., Corrosion of Conformity, Fu Manchu, Clutch, Metallica, Slayer, Scorpions); punk; any other hard-driving rock (Tool, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Deftones, System of a Down, Volbeat)

Mastodon's Hushed and Grim did not make your list? Easily Album of the Year for me.

i can't seem to get into mastodon that much. i really like them musically (instrumentally and arrangement wise), but i'm just not a fan of the vocals. something about their tones just doesn't suit my ear. kinda like maiden. i know that they are well regarded, but i just can't get on board completely. i'll give it another listen...
