OT: New Music (Released January 2020 or Later)

Darius Rucker and Chris Robinson dueting on "She Talks To Angels" for a Country awards show in 2023 wasnt on my 1996 Bingo Card

The Lynard Skynard tribute featuring Paul Rodgers on vocals , Slash, ZZ Top Guy, LeeAnn Rimes, Wynona is off the charts

This is the best awards show I have watched in decades. Real music by real artists with real instruments

Relax. It was funny. I gave it a listen, and I LOL'd. My brother is a musician (as was my father), and he spent years in Nashville pursuing writing and recording deals. I'm generally not a fan of country music, but there are some pretty good artists out there. I just laugh at cliches. Same for metal songs.
I generally do not care for the more commercialized country acts but there are a number of musical acts that fall under the Country label that are sensational. As mentioned above, Chris Stapleton , who I consider a Soul/ R&B guy is an Incredible singer and songwriter. Jason Isbell is very talented. One of my favorite new artists is Billy Strings who is labeled as “Bluegrass” All of these acts will play their own material and often cover rock songs in their own way when they tour. The amount of quality musicians in the Nashville area today is ridiculous.

Yes this kicked ass too and i will be researching this artist

The lowlight of the show was a younger country artist doing a performance with drag queens...really?
Gary Clark Jr. was great on the 50th anniversary of the Beatles Ed Sullivan Show appearance playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

From the earlier referenced CMT awards (which I did not watch), Gary Clark Jr doing a tribute to SRV with the upbeat “The House is Rockin”

I'm a big Gary Clark Jr. fan...and an even bigger Stevie Ray fan, but that tune he did is the last SRV song I would like to have seen him cover.
Clark's album...Gary Clark Jr. Live from about 2014 is as good as it gets IMO.
Also, John Osborne of the Brothers Osborne is a damn good guitar player as well.

Clark is very good. I’ve been a fan of his for probably 10 years or more. . I have about 4 of his albums. I first saw him at one of Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival quite some time ago.

I like this
The latest segment coming April 21 - had not realized this was part of a sequence of releases:

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced their new album Atum (pronounced “autumn”), a 33-song rock opera in three acts that’s billed as the sequel to 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/Machine of God. The new song “Beguiled” is the first taste from the album. Hear it below.

Each act of Atum will be released every 11 weeks, with Act 1 leading off on November 15; Act 2 will follow on January 31, with Act 3 finishing the collection on April 21. A special edition box set featuring the album’s 33 songs plus 10 additional bonus tracks will also be released on April 21.

That's where I was blown away by Clark...the Crossroads Guitar Fest. I think it was 2013.
I also have four of his albums. The live one is awesome.

So much great new music coming out.

New from The Hold Steady -great lyrics.

She got a sixer from the store down the street.
Stayed up watching basketball replays.
There's a reason that she can't go to sleep.
It's got nothing to do with LeBron James.
It has to do with a chemical reaction.
Stimulated synapses. The snapping and the crackling.
The doctor gave her something to focus her attention.
She's got a six month supply in the cupboard in the kitchen.
Upstairs she hears footsteps
And she has an idea.
He's home late from some dinner and some drinks.
Another Friday with the suits in the steakhouse.
Asset management's as thrilling as you'd think
But they pay him pretty well. Now he's renting out the penthouse.
Hasn't met the neighbors. He's new to the building.
So he's a little bit surprised when he notices the knocking.
When he opens up the door it's the girl that lives beneath him.
She says I know it's pretty late and I hope that you weren't sleeping.
She said she thought she heard footsteps
And she had an idea.
He'd seen her at the mailbox. Made a little small talk.
Now she's here in his entrance.
Shaking up the bottle like she's paying the maracas.
Says she's high and she's restless.
He puts something on the stereo. It sounds like it's Sinatra.
She thinks that seems a bit square.
But there's things you over look
When you're getting with the guy upstairs.
She opens up the bottle and starts pouring out the pills.
Crush it on the counter being careful not to spill.
He starts mixing drinks. Measuring the gin.
Getting down the glassware. Muddling the mint.
They talk about their work and where they went to school.
How the city's kind of changed. How it used to be so cool.
It's hard to make friends when your job is so demanding.
They start dancing.
Sunrise into sundown.
Sending out for takeout. Sharing inside jokes now.
He finally tries to kiss her and she says that it's not like that.
Now he wished he wouldn't have done that.
Cause everything is awkward
And the conversation slows.
She cleans off the countertop and
Said that she should probably go.
She'd seen him at the mailbox flipping through the mail drop.
She wasn't sure how to start it.
Spent the lost weekend trying to find a small connection.
At least she got to see his apartment.
A Nagel poster in a silver frame.
She thought that seemed kind of lame.
She wakes up late for work with the sniffles and a spiraling shame.
Later in the fall when
Sees him in the hallway
She makes a point to be friendly.
He's standing with some baby
That he's calling his fiancee
Her name is either Kelly or Katie.
She's glad they found each other.
The weddings next September.
She's planning her own party tonight
Crushing up pills at home and watching basketball highlights.
She thinks she hears footsteps
But now they're not really there.

Not a lot of new "real" music any more. Just digital imitations of human sounds and creativity:

Spot on

Said what music turned into

I was watching some streamed performances from Coachella.
From what I saw it was pretty weak - rapperish types making synth type sounds as if singing - while lights and fireworks went off lol. Most lyrics were gibberish and cursing. Only one I could listen to a bit was Frank Ocean. He sounded ok but the lyrics were still kinda just bantery ruminations with reverb

Silly discussion above, please keep this thread pure and to new music. If you want to complain, start a new thread, please.

First new Jethro Tull in 20 years!!!

My goodness that's an awful song. Way too digitized for any real soul or authenticity.
Yeah, like the cowbell in BOC's Don't Fear the Reaper, an iconic part of Tull is the flute!! I was wondering if they broke Ian's flute on those songs? Disappointing effort by them. Maybe there's a deep cut to enjoy.
