OT - New Star Wars is the Real Deal!

We have our tickets for Monday night with the kids and another family. Can't wait.

Nice. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan (I appreciate the movies but I'm not running around dressed up like a Storm Trooper for a 12 AM showing) and there are few movies that I feel like I need to see in the theater, but I'm excited to go out and see this one -- especially since it seems like George Lucas was kept at arms length.

going to wait about 2 weeks for a matinee when the crowd dies down and everyone is back in school and the adults are finally working again

And you're going to wait until those damn kids get off your lawn! :)

We have something more important than football to deal with over the next few days! :) First round of reviews are out:

Who's seeing SW and when?
I was kind of hoping it would suck so that I could just go check it out on Netflix or Redbox. But apparently that will not be an option. Im gonna have to go see it in the theaters - but I doubt I can before people ruin all of the spoilers.

Thank God.

The franchise took a hit in the quality department with E1-E3. I mean, some of those computer graphics were just laughable -- you could find better cut scenes in video games!

Not sure why Disney would bring on a different director for the other movies. Seems like a mistake to switch creative visions on something like this.

Or live gameplay sequences.

I believe JJ is involved in everything and so are the main writers. Since they want the trilogy movies to come out every 2 years, there really isn't enough time for one director to do everything - the movie production timelines overlap.

2AM Friday Morning. Making an event of it with my sons. Going completely off the regular school year script is something they'll remember forever.

I remember my mom taking me to see Empire at a midnight show in Menlo Park and waiting 3 hours in line to get in, then being completely blown away by the movie.

Have 12 year old twins who have never seen the movies, so we are going to watch them during the winter break, and then schedule an IMAX showing. It should be interesting, because I don't believe they know the "Luke I am your father" twist. I remember that was a spoiler that was revealed early on when "The Empire Strikes Back" was released, and few people actually got to enjoy the shock...

Friday at 4 at the New Brunswick Loews Imax. Picking up my daughter at school and heading over to see it.

As an aside, she's 9 and was never into Star Wars, and I never forced her to be. When the tickets came out I asked if she wanted to go with me and she said yes. So in order to catch her up, we have watched the other movies over the last month or so in release order 4,5,6,1,2,3.

She was shocked by the Darth Vader twist and that Luke and Leia were brother/sister. It was fun watching her reaction to the twists. After watching them all she said to me, " I really like Star Wars, Empire and Jedi and can't wait for the new one, but if we watched the prequels first I don't think I would have continued on."

Not sure what Lucas was thinking with the prequels that even a 9 year can figure out that they sucked (although 3 wasn't bad).

Abro: Had the same question -- thinking of taking my parents to AC for the experience, but not sure of the value

Good, maybe Star Wars hype drowns out the concussion hysteria tha's planned to start Christmas Day. I have't been to a theater since 2008. Maybe I'll risk a night with muggles and their phones

I'm going to wait until the Holidays are over and the terrorist threats die down a little. Stay safe.

Maybe Christmas Day for me. Either that or waiting til my birthday (Jan 2) and hitting up a matinee.

Me and my wife and a friend got tix for Sat @ noon!!! I am totally stoked and excited!

Hated Jar Jar Binks and the super duper use of animation. It reminded me a little of watching the pre-Christian Bale Batman.

This new Star Wars series reminds me of the Christian Bale Batman

Glad to hear it's more like the 1st two. The last four sucked. Saw the 1st Star Wars when it came out I was 8. At this age it was unbelievable and nothing else out there compared(I did like Tron), George Lucas had me hooked from then on out. I'm going to wait 2 weeks then I'll go. Funny thing is that was also the 1st year I started playing pee wee football after the 1st practice I was hooked on that as well. It was a very impressionable age I guess.

Funny about the mention of Menlo Park Cinema. When the first Star Wars came out in 1977, I was 12 years old, and Menlo Park was one of the few places in the area that you could see the movie. My grandfather, who didn't go to the movies much made the grand gesture of treating the whole family (6 people) to the movie. Back then, a prime time movie cost $2.75, but they raised the price to $4.00 (!!!) for Star Wars. When we got to the movie theatre, my grandfather was fuming (how can they raise it that much?!?) I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but I can still see him with a frown on his face the whole movie!...

Now, my kids are 12, and we are seeing the newest movie. Ah, to be a kid again...

I never told my kids, and watched their faces while they learned - they were so freaked out !!
