Seems like another nice claim. Similar to Ridings from Yanks with the big FB.
This is accurate.Thought I heard that he was not handling his lack of playing this year well (comments to the press)
As much of a fan I was of Dom Smith, he may be better off elsewhere. Vaya con dios.
Agreed. He would benefit from a fresh start elsewhere. As much of a fan I was of Dom Smith, he may be better off elsewhere. Vaya con dios.
For those that watch the Dodgers, what did happen to this guy. Was it an injury after his MVP season?Agreed. He would benefit from a fresh start elsewhere.
So would Cody Bellinger, who reportedly is being non-tendered by the Dodgers. 2019 MVP. Hard to think a position player would fall so far so fast. (It does happen with pitchers.)
The linked article addresses this issue. The author blames a broken tibula in early 2021 which ruined his mechanicsFor those that watch the Dodgers, what did happen to this guy. Was it an injury after his MVP season?
Never seen a young guy drop this fast.
There would need to be a mutual option in there.Mets should sign Bellinger to a 3 year $70-80 million contract with 1 year player opt out.
I doubt he gets anything near that much. Dodgers didn't want to give him $17 mill for one year. They certainly wouldn't give him three years with a one year opt out. Nor will anyone else IMO.Mets should sign Bellinger to a 3 year $70-80 million contract with 1 year player opt out.
Mutual options are rarely exercised. Not sure why they even exist TBH. If the player has overperformed the contract, he won't exercise it. If he hasn't, the team won't exercise it.There would need to be a mutual option in there.
But, the guy may be worth the chance if we lose Nimmo.
I believe it just gives both an out…Mutual options are rarely exercised. Not sure why they even exist TBH. If the player has overperformed the contract, he won't exercise it. If he hasn't, the team won't exercise it.
How about you worry about your own team.Mets should sign deGrom.
I'll be very happy if they let him walk.
That would be one of the biggest overpays of the last 20 years or more.Mets should sign Bellinger to a 3 year $70-80 million contract with 1 year player opt out.
Yeah. No interest in Bellinger here, especially at that. That would be one of the biggest overpays of the last 20 years or more.
It’s not the union. It’s illegal. The problem is the players union. For two owners to openly say they will not pursue a player(s) in agreement, it is in fact collusion. We know it has been done for years and mult teams have made behind the door handshakes on these things but for it to get out, does not help...
Understood- what I meant, is not that the players union is a problem but may be the problem to the league for an issue like this. It’s not the union. It’s illegal.
It’s done in a lot of places. Before I retired I saw it done by my CEO. Not even the slightest consideration that this was illegal or maybe that the best man should win.Understood- what I meant, is not that the players union is a problem but may be the problem to the league for an issue like this.
It is illegal but used to be done all the time by the good ole boys that own these teams.
or it is still a handshake and this move is like interviewing a black candidate for managerYanks looking at deGrom, asked for his medicals. Time for Mets to ask for Judge’s medicals.
Someone who has been in the minors for seven years and hasn't made it to the 40-man roster should probably, in Branch Rickey's phrase, "get on with your life's work."[snip]
If you've been in the minors for seven years, and are not on the 40 man, you're a free agent.
Just heard Texas is interested in Rodon, that might take them out of the deGrom race.Something to keep an eye on: 8 of 8 baseball experts per ESPN all predict that Jake will sign elsewhere. Conversely most of them have Rodon signing with Mets.
Yep. They believe that Nimmo is a higher Met priority than deGrom.Something to keep an eye on: 8 of 8 baseball experts per ESPN all predict that Jake will sign elsewhere. Conversely most of them have Rodon signing with Mets.
Agree with that.Yep. They believe that Nimmo is a higher Met priority than deGrom.
Yep. They believe that Nimmo is a higher Met priority than deGrom.
As things have played out- Nimmo does become the higher priority. But...a healthy deGrom, which is why Nimmo(ironic) is the top.Agree with that.
70 would almost double the number of starts that he had in the last three years.. . . Even if we sign him for a Mad Max contract and he only pitches 60-70 games in the next 3, I would take it.
yes, the shortened 2020 season and the two years he was out with the injury.70 would almost double the number of starts that he had in the last three years.
The whole point is that he’s had serious arm trouble for a while now.yes, the shortened 2020 season and the two years he was out with the injury.
The whole point, is if he is over the injury. If he isn't and can't give you 25+ starts each year, not worth it.

we know of his early TJ surgery in 2010(i think) maybe 2011. but up until 2021- no major damage- mostly a couple of minor cleanups to his elbow that didn't really cut into much time other than a 10 day DL during his first CY year. But up through 2020, he has never had a 3 year stretch with less than 76 starts. and his 3 years prior to 2020 were all 30+ and he had a healthy 2020 season. His arm concerns are from his last injury that cost him nearly 1.5 years. The whole point is that he’s had serious arm trouble for a while now.
That is what it is- can he give you 25+ starts a year for the next 3?No way to know if he is over injury.
I'm going to say that would be a long shot. If he did, would they be of the 5/6 inning type, putting pressure on the bullpen? I'd say 2 years, big time money, some deferred, take it or leave it. Either way, he's an All Time great Mets player who will always get a standing ovation at any NYC event or Old Timers Game. LFGM. At least we don't boo our major free agents out of town, or sour them on how we treated teammates.😎we know of his early TJ surgery in 2010(i think) maybe 2011. but up until 2021- no major damage- mostly a couple of minor cleanups to his elbow that didn't really cut into much time other than a 10 day DL during his first CY year. I agree- and if the Met's did offer 2 years at $80-88 with a 3rd year option, I would be ok with that. Even if he left to another team, at least it would show that the Met's made a very serious bid to keep him here. And if he leaves- go slightly lower for Verlander but also, just 2 years.I'm going to say that would be a long shot. If he did, would they be of the 5/6 inning type, putting pressure on the bullpen?
