OT: New York Mets 2022-2023 Off Season Thread

Yup. Reports that Cohen is buying damaged goods. Trying to get out of the deal now. Amateur hour in Flushing.

Merry Christmas!
If you are going to troll- do it without just showing you are stupid.
I know, you know, our offer to him I was still based on a physical?

Or, maybe, you are stupid and not even trolling. Lol

Huh? Yankees obviously could afford him too…but not sure what the Yankees have to do with anything here….
Should have made myself clearer, my bad. Have you not seen in this thread the crying by TK, RUzipcode and kbee? It's a shot at the Yankees fans, not the club, I get the fact Hal can buy anyone he wants, it's the Yankees fans who've been pissing and moaning and it's a very amusing read.

To be fair to the Yankees- they have some very good SS prospects that are on the edge of getting their chance. And they have money tied up at 3B. Correa most likely not a good fit. They also spent almost 600 mil in FA’s this year themselves. So, no one really has a reason to have a problem with their owner/GM.
And no reason for either fanbase to say the other is “buying” a championship.
Both teams will be good again this year even with no additional moves.
Should be fun.

Yes the Yankees have money tied up at 3B with Donaldson just like the Mets had money tied up at 2B with Cano. There's always that option for Hal and Cashman. Uncle Stevie has shown how to handle that!

All good but this isn’t about the Yankees. Shame on those posters for discussing the Yankees in a Mets a thread.

It’s funny to me there were known issues with his physical on the Giants, the Mets make the splash signing anyway, fan base erupts..only to find the Mets have the same concern as the Giants did. Not the best look for the Mets, imo. They can certainly salvage the deal with lesser years…but whole thing was silly.

Disagree- they did not hand him a contract without requiring a physical themselves. It was a smart play. Jump in and basically claim the rights of refusal. Now, they get to do a full physical, possibly renegotiate or just walk away, no harm no foul. It was a win/win for the Met's- we held the cards. And to be honest- if we are the 2nd team to have a concern, it really becomes a huge bargaining table chip. What 3rd team will come in with better...

If it falls apart, all sides come off looking foolish, its one thing if the Giants come off looking like cold feet and backing out since their GM Farhan is negatively looked at by the fanbase, but if the Mets do it as well, Boras looks really bad too and the Mets lose out on a premium player that at least for half of the contract should be healthy, its more the long term whether it will deteriorate but if he contributes to a WS title then its all worth it. Ultimately Correa is the one that loses out if this falls through because if Cohen is unwilling to pay him, no one will give Correa another long-term deal for the rest of his career. It'll get done.

Mets may be stuck with damaged goods.

If you want to criticize Cohen, criticize him for going on the record with this. A better approach would have been simply to have "undisclosed sources" leak the signing.

Ultimately it will not matter, one way or the other.

I don't have a problem with Yankees fans coming to this thread to comment on things, but hijacking the thread is childish. If you have an issue with some posters, conduct that debate with PMs.
Agree with this. If you want discussion- I don’t care who you are a fan of.

The signing is official! Adam Ottavino is again a Met. Formal announcement made this morning. To clear room on the 40 man, William Woods was DFA'd.

That other signing? Who the hell knows.

He is still unsigned.

Negotiations thus far have been unsuccessful. Met fans want and expect him here, and I think he will be, but probably not until after the new year. There are of course no guarantees.

He's Keith Hernandez. More recognizable than Correa, and IMO tougher to replace.

Problem is, Keith is not negotiating with Cohen and the Mets. He's negotiating with the Wilpons and SNY. Big difference. We shall see.

I don't follow the Hernandez take? I don't think Correa could ever have the impact that Keith had. Keith brought an entire change to the organization and what it took to win, on and off the field. The Mets already had a season of 101 wins so to me it's a totally different situation. I'm ready to go either way, if it's Correa great, if it's roll the dice with Baty, I'm OK with that also. I hate these 10+ year contracts anyway.

Keith is negotiating a new deal with SNY. Discussions are on hold until next year. Wilpons still own SNY so who knows how they'll mess that up.

Very confused about the KH reference. Are you trying to say that signing Correa is the key to winning it?

I think it does end up done. Correa knows what he has here and wants to be in NY and he would now have to go somewhere else at a discount.
He needs to seriously consider some sort of restructuring- maybe the pre existing injury only goes into effect at 5 years or something like that.

Ahhhhhh- that makes sense then. And we can’t lose KH off the greatest baseball announcing team.
That is one thing that Mets can always claim- right from the start to now- always the top team in the booth

yeah that's definitely true, SNY's trio are probably the best in baseball. Meanwhile Michael Kay is about as obnoxious a personality as it gets - almost on the level of Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith

Oh look, it's the gay basher again. No need for tissues, I'll just continue to call you out for the POS you really are. Everytime you post in this thread I will remind Mets fans who they're dealing with. This was RUzipcode's reference to the Correa injury, classy guy right?

No doubt, Linsey, Bob and Ralph got the ball rolling. There's never been anything close from that other outfit.
