A part of me says Correa talent just isn’t worth that money but on the other hand- a part of me says it ain’t my money and he would most likely make us WS’s favorites for the next few years.,,The more the Correa thing drags on, the less enthusiastic I am about the signing. I am leaning more to saving the money and giving Baty and Maurico a chance. The cash can be used to take on a big name that might become available in the spring or at the trade deadline.
All of me agrees with part of you. Correa ain't worth the money. Not to the Mets at least.A part of me says Correa talent just isn’t worth that money but on the other hand- a part of me says it ain’t my money and he would most likely make us WS’s favorites for the next few years.,,
The good thing is that our SS is as good or maybe better at D than Correa. They are at least neck and neck. If we do not get Correa- as much as many fans go negative- Escobar is an elite defensive 3B and his offense, in good years is not far off of Correa. I actually believe he is most likely a .260 25+!HR guy for us next year if he is here. All of me agrees with part of you. Correa ain't worth the money. Not to the Mets at least.
I say that because a good chunk of Correa's value lies in his elite defense at the premium position - shortstop. On the Mets, that value is wasted. At best, he will provide elite defense at the lesser valued position of third base. At worst, he will provide merely good defense there. SS skills are not 100% transferable to 3B.
In the pre-Cohen world, every big dollar signing came with an opportunity cost. You sign this guy, then you can't afford to sign that guy. Or maybe you can't afford to sign some other guy three years from now. If those rules still apply, then I don't want Correa. Certainly not if yes to Correa means no to Ohtani.
But as we all know, Cohen has FU money and can write his own rules - if he wants to. Does he? Time will tell.
Twins rumor came out after these Tweets occured, so most likely Boras is setting up a fallbackReporting this morning is that the twins have now swooped in.
At this point, I’m fine to let him go. People forget Escobar was absolutely on fire at the end of the season even from the left side of the plate. Let him play third, get rid of ruf, find someone to take right handed swings at DH (not Alvarez - he needs full
time catching work at AAA).
Correa might get a better deal from somebody else. Medical doctors have different opinions. Maybe the Twins, or whomever, may believe that the ankle poses less of a risk than the Mets and Giants do.It is going to be what it is. Correa is not going to get a better deal from anyone else, so, the sooner they recognize that, they will sign. But...Boras is starting to put the Met fan base against Correa and that is not the smart thing to do if he does sign with us. If he were to start slow- he may never climb out.
And I also agree with above that Escobar is a very nice fallback for us. I see him as a .250-.260 25+ HR guy with a great glove. I don't think he starts as bad as he did last year. For us- it is all about the DH position this year and keeping starters healthy
Well it is still pending a physical as well. A lot less years and money now. It’s over! Correa signs with the Twins. Moving on!
But higher AAV.Well it is still pending a physical as well. A lot less years and money now.
I am not unhappy with this news. Money can be better spent elsewhere either at the deadline or if someone comes available in the spring. With Verlander and Max getting up in years we may need another arm or two as well as bullpen help. I also wonder if the Padres will make Tatis available if he proves healthy after all the other signings they made. If the Mets went after him after spring training, he still has to sit out half a season, but that would help the luxury tax this year as they would only owe him for half the year. The Padres are going to need his $$$ for Soto. It’s over! Correa signs with the Twins. Moving on!
Poor? Ironic post is ironic.Lol poor Mets

We need to be able to fit in an Angels player next year to help with pitching and OF.,,I am not unhappy with this news. Ummmmmm- yesWould you eat Trouts contract to get a full year to negotiate with Ohtani ???
You’re trading 6-7 players
Megill
Allan
Baty
Mauricio
Vientos
Jett
Parada
Why do they look stupid. Stupid, would be to make the offer with no physical.Mets look stupid for pursuing damaged goods, but at the end of the day they dodged a bullet. Correa is a ticking time bomb.
You answered your own question. Why do they look stupid. Stupid, would be to make the offer with no physical.
Then again- we could have given almost 400 mil to a player with 2 full seasons and already 30…
Try again, Nostradumbass. So I'm guessing the Mets get him for less money and less years. 😁
So true.Folks, it's gonna happen and when it does, this thread will explode. Doesn't look like any of the sites has the Bronx remotely in the picture. https://nypost.com/2022/12/17/jay-z-mets-cohen-others-brawl-over-nyc-casino-license/
3 Amigos in the house. At least we didn't tie up that kind of money like you did in Aaron Plexiglass. So trueSo true.
I really wanted him on the team for like 5 years - beyond that not so much.Mets totally dodged a bullet with this crap. Hate some of these long-term deals flying around.
That’s what these deals become. Hope for the best on the front end and know you’re screwed on the back end. The problem is that even on the front end, these deals can hamstring you when you need to make one or two other strategic deals at the trade deadline or in free agency during another year to push you over the top.I really wanted him on the team for like 5 years - beyond that no so much.

NmSo then - if the season began today (which BTW my sources have informed me it does not) here's the likely roster.
STARTING LINEUP
Nimmo CF
Marte RF
Lindor SS
Alonso 1B
McNeil 2B
Canha LF
Vogelbach DH
Escobar 3B
Narvaez C
COMMENT - Other than platoons at DH and C, this is pretty much carved in stone.
BENCH
Nido
Guillorme
Ruf OR Vientos
Lee OR Locastro
COMMENT - Alvarez and Baty both begin the season in Syracuse. Neither will end it there. Those last two bench positions could use an upgrade. Nothing that Adam Duvall and Jurickson Profar wouldn't solve.
STARTING PITCHERS
Scherzer
Verlander
Senga
Quintana
Carrasco
COMMENT - The only question here is whether Carrasco gets dealt to free up a spot for Peterson or Megill, and to save a few bucks in luxury tax.
RELIEF PITCHERS
Diaz
Ottavino
Robertson
Raley
Smith

Asmine
COMMENT - Those last three guys could be upgraded. Your guess is as good as mine.
It does my heart good to see you gloating after crying about the Mets spending,so true.😎 Talk about Nostradumbass, how's those "Baby Bombers" working out? No Amigos will step forward on that or New Core Four. Springs Training is right around the corner, wonder who'll work the back pages the most during the season?Try again, Nostradumbass.
With 2 40 yr old pitchers, 1 who has had injuries last 2 years, we shouldn’t be trading away any starting pitching. So then - if the season began today (which BTW my sources have informed me it does not) here's the likely roster.
