OT: NJ Devils 2023-2024 Thread

Say Fitz had been smart and proactive, and he has enough cap space to get Kurtis and a tough defenseman like Zadorov at the start of the season, how many fewer cheapshots and corresponding injuries do we suffer? I think it is more than enough to make the playoffs this year. We have the talent, and Dawson showed a lot last night. We need the insurance to make sure our talent isn't taking stuff, some of it illegal, that depresses their numbers.
We had Mac in the game the game Rempe chicken winged Siegs. He was in the lineup last night when Tkachuk was blasting guys all over.

He is a tough guy, and I do think we could use some toughness, especially in the bottom 6/4th line (the entirety of last years 4th line which was good, is now gone) but the problem with Macdermid is he is a bad hockey player who you can only play a couple minutes a game. Seriously hope we can find a better option.

Then use family connections to see what we could do to get Brady T. for the long haul. I trade Marino and Jonas S. and sign Zadorov and Gudus. We need 2 monster defensemen.

With this attitude adjustment, smart trading, and signings this disappointing season could, and should, lead to greatness.

Let's Go Devils!
It's cool that Fitz is buddies with Brady's dad, but Ottawa is not trading their 24 year old Captain who is in the middle of a long term contract.

Do we need to add some toughness that can actually play hockey? I agree with that, but there needs to be some semblance or reality in these proposals.

That’s the problem with a guy who really only brings toughness and little else. The Rangers had the same issue when they foolishly signed Reaves.

Your “tough guy” is not likely to be on the ice, and maybe not even dressed, when a cheap shot happens so what good are they.

It isn’t the old days when you could afford to have Marty McSorley actually skate on Gretzky’s line to protect him.

It’s why the Tkachucks are so f*^king valuable even though they are annoying, and watch out for Cutter Gauthier in the future (currently at Boston College, Anaheim property).

The problem is Kurtis is one man and we have many skilled soft targets. In short the Devils need more guys to protect our small skill.

Look at how many "tough/gritty" guys the NYR have for instance. Look at the size in that lineup, it is much deeper than Rempe and Trouba.

You are RIGHT, one guy isn't enough.

He has been rumored to be available this season. As stated in the broadcast last night Brady hates losing, so add it up, he wouldn't be the 1st player with current term to be traded. Vegas traded for a player with 7 years on his contract in their division. ( Tomas Hertl)

This is beyond plausible, for the right price it is highly possible. Fitz just needs to make sure he would want to be here and not just in a tax free situation like his brother.

None of my suggestions are pie in the sky. I'm NOT suggesting McDavid or Benard for example. Yes those 2 are not getting traded, Brady T. just might.

That's the math? Bit of a leap.

Again I said Fitz should talk to family to find out. That is smart, not a leap at all. Fitz would have liked Matt but he wanted tax free, which is why Florida ponied up. Find out if Brady wants out and would be a happy NJD, if yes get it done. If no, guess what no harm no foul!

Fitz and Brady are cousins.

I wish they would get rid of these beer league jerseys. Make the Winter Classic jerseys we are undefeated in our 3rd jersey.

Ryan Whitney from spitting chiclets said a month ago Brady wasn’t happy and could be available . Take it for what it’s worth . On a side note Bradys wife is from NJ though 🤔
Brady would instantly change the makeup of the team. He has what the devils need…in spades. But, even if he pushes for a change, OTT has all the leverage. So, the transaction would really be what they want, not what other teams are willing to give up. They haven’t seen the playoffs in forever, so I’d be shocked if we saw picks or prospects here. And it’s gonna hurt a bit, this is a unique top 20 talent. My guesses: If they want a star for star - Nico straight up. If they want young roster players - Nemec, Dawson + a pick. Either way IMO, worth it.

Those aren't outrageous proposals. I don't think Nico gets it done because of his contract (isn't he UFA after 2 more seasons?) and it's hard to see how the 1-1 directly improves the Sens. If you add a piece on that maybe it resonates.

I think it's hard to argue against Dawson, Nemec and a piece, especially if that piece is a player/prosecpt vs. a pick.

EDIT - my comments are from Sens POV

Update- Jack Hughes shoulder surgery in Vail CO. tomorrow. He is expected to be ready for next year.

Great contribution, ya troll. Your stupid post is probably why Zibanejad concussed himself earlier and likely ruined any hopes the Rangers had for this spring.
I will believe it when I see it with the Rangers. They are better than past years, but still not there yet for a long playoff run.

As for Little Jack, the best ability is availability. Trade him before his value goes to zero.

Big bad Kakko has less games played in his career than Jack Wasn’t he supposed to be a man among boys when they were drafted the same year. What’s his excuse ?

Played with a shoulder harness for the last 2 months and still projected to hit 98 pts/82 games in a down year. I think they'll hang on to him for a bit.

Needs to get stronger, needs to be able to stay healthy. I do give him credit for battling through injury. He did it last year, he did it this year, but he does continue to get banged up.

Should note too that a good portion of this years numbers came early in the season, when he was healthy, and looked like one of the best players in the league.

I tend to agree on the injury component, which is why I'm annoyed they played with fire for so long on this. This shoulder problem dates back to an injury last February that kept him out 4 games. Rather than opting for postseason surgery last May/June, which could have kept him out the first 1-2 months of this season, he played through it until reinjuring it in early January this year.

He never looked right upon returning in February , but to be fair, he still had 27 points in 28 games since coming back.

Now he'll have this surgery today to be ready for the start of '24-25, but how much strength training can he possibly take on while rehabbing from shoulder surgery?

In the last 3 years I have had 2 shoulder surgeries. One of them being rotator cuff. That was a LOOOOONG recovery, about 6 months. I did not have the access that he will, to treatments/therapy. I don't know what his surgery will involve, but I do feel that he will be fine when camp begins.

Best ability is availability. While jack has all the talent in the world, he simply cant stay healthy. He needs to hit the weight room and get stronger

Bingo, I've been calling for him and a few others to start remedial weight training. Even with that the Devils need to get tougher with more grit.

The internet rumor during this season was that it was the other shoulder this year. Haven't been in tune of late so I don't know if that has changed.

I also have to believe there wasn't substantial risk in him continuing to play.

Matching Toronto's firepower last night was nice to see and they finally played well in a 3rd period for the first time in weeks. I feel like Bratt has flown under the radar with the production he's had this year - now up to 82 points.

Sadly, if they had hung onto those 3rd period leads in even 3 of the 4 games vs. BUF, PIT, NYR and NSH, they'd be in a playoff spot right now. Monday's game vs. NYI could have been for the 3rd Metro spot. But alas, maybe they deliver Philly's knockout punch tomorrow.

Vegas signed Hanafin to long term extension and are extremely tight to cap next season . Maybe Fitzy can try and grab big lefty D Hague or Mcnabb . Both making under 3 mill . Hague the younger option

Power play really clicked. No J Hughes trying to fly into the zone & losing the puck only to do it all over again. Last night they were able to set up.

Watched the canucks/preds game last night . This Dakota Joshua had a stellar game . UFA at end of season, late bloomer , 6’3 200 pounds . Had 18 goals 14 assists and top ten in hits in NHL with 245 this season. Plays on the nucks PK. Never really noticed him before last night. Would fit perfectly in bottom 6

I believe it's been confirmed it's the other shoulder.

Not a reinjury.

I was at the Devils game vs the Islanders last week.
Once again, both fan bases were chanting "Rangers suck."
Hearing this,I thought :Why can't this area again have 3 MLB teams?Dolan could easily afford to build a waterfront palace in Jersey City if Manfred could strong arm the Yankees and the Mets to waive their territorial rights.MSG badly needs summertime programming and the Rays seem to be getting nowhere in getting a new place in Tampa.

Rangers and Devils fans can unite in celebrating that all of the great young talent Buffalo has accumulated will not become a real threat in the East.

The Sabres new coach, Lindy Ruff. What a guy to hire with those excellent young defensemen they have.

Holy shite, talk about a retread.
The man spent a decade and a half there and they bring him back!

How much fanbase excitement could he bring.

When George was threatening to leave NYC and the possible location was the Meadowlands, the stadium to be built was supposed to look like the one in KC the Royals have. Just a little bigger.
