Academic scandal. Forced to vacate wins from 2012-2014. including their nat. championship appearance.

This has to be it for Kelly, I'd assume.

I never understood vacating past wins as a sanction. I would much prefer bowl and tv bans but the NCAA thinks forfeiting games from 4 years ago is some sort of deterrent. Perhaps if they had to return the money from their championship game appearance it would have more teeth but heaven forbid they actually issue sanctions with some teeth.

That's why I am going to enjoy this upcoming 4-8 season (no way they beat USC this week -17 point dogs). With all the behind the scenes strings that they pull, they can still only manage 4 wins. Some fans here wanted Kelly. Why? To win football games! He can't even do it there. He did it in the past, but I feel it's over for him now at N.D.

Yet he is rumored #2 for LSU job

Great point on the past wins! Totally agree. Re: money... ND has to pay a $5,000 fine in addition to vacating past wins...lol[roll]

They will appeal this and win. If PSU can have a child rapist wins restored. Notre Dame will have there's restored.

Perhaps we should take up a collection to try to raise the 5k on their behalf. However will they come up with the money? The NCAA showed them!

Yeah, I saw that. Someone will give him a job for sure. I'm just saying with all the advantages he has at ND, he still will end up with only 4 wins. That's a joke! He's not cutting it. ND won't keep him.

$5000 is a joke. One rich alum will write a check and maybe get his name mentioned.
$500,000 is more like it

losses to Navy and Duke in the same season is pretty hard to do, even at Notre Dame.....this is icing on the cake...with that said, I don't think Kelly gets fired, he may leave on his own before that happens....

That's the difference between him and Holtz. Old Lou always got out of town before the posse showed up.

And the NCAA. Every school Holt's coached at except ND(because of their clout) got put on probation for violations while he was there. Arkansas, Minnesota, and South Carolina.

If ND has to vacate 2 years of wins and its national championship apperance these guys should see the death penalty.

Does this mean we won the Pinstripe Bowl? When will the trophy be arriving? The Hale Center needs notice to make room for it in the trophy case....

If the NCAA treats it as a game that was never played, can I get my money back for the tickets. This is kind of like a retroactive abortion.

The main heading on ESPN says forfeit which would mean, yes, you do get credit for the winning the game. However, the article never uses forfeit but vacate. If it is vacating wins then, no, RU does not get credit for a win and will not get the trophy. It will be returned to the Pinstripe folks or destroyed. Basically there is no winner of the game or of any of the games that ND won during that time. Any team that beat them still gets credit for the win but any team they lost to it is still counted as a lose by the NCAA. It's a stupid penalty anyway because it affects nothing except some seldom viewed stats that mean little.

It makes perfect sense when a school is using ineligible players in those games.

The point of the post is that it taking away past victories doesn't really harm the team. It's a sanction in name only. It doesn't cause real damage. Taking away scholarships or championship money, or tv appearances would send a bigger message.

Unlike many schools that get caught cheating, I believe ND is very sensitive to their well-manicured image. One might assume that they will do everything in their power to "exorcise" this from the public eye.
