OT: NY Giants 2021 Season Thread

He was great in both those games beating one of the best QBs that ever played. He kept the Patriots from having a perfect year. and it was not because the Giants had great teams, every team the Giants played in the playoffs that year he beat. Let's face it the Giants won those Super bowls because their QB outplayed the other guy. Tom Brady had many many accomplishments playing football. Beating
Manning in a Super bowl is not one of them.
Yes Eli was the MVP ......... Twice.
Eli played great in that Green Bay game in 2008. But the super bowl mvp could have been easily been tuck or tyree

I'm surprised you have Jones penciled in as the starter next year.

I've been a Jones supporter and was very much of the mindset of giving him another year, but the injuries is a near final straw for me.

If the new GM really likes a QB with one of those top picks, I think they draft a QB and Jones will then be a placeholder/backup.

Though in general the idea of having a QB on the roster who will challenge the young QB? Outside of motivation, I'm not a proponent. At this point do I want a mediocre journeyman QB winning some games to close out the year? No, I'd rather lose and have the higher picks.
They just have so many needs, especially in the OL, it seems pointless to spend substantial draft capital on a QB now , very likely to just get beat up

Fix the offensive line !!!!

Get a viable TE

Give Barkley and Booker a chance at RB with a decent line

See what an experienced Jones can do. If its substandard, then get a QB next draft

Absolutely, couldn't agree more. Give Jones the
line he deserves, replacing Jones sets us back
to where we were when we drafted him.

Giants #1 last year was OL (Andrew Thomas ) but he got hurt for most of season
Just think that 2 picks after him was Justin Herbert . That QB is real good but he doesn't get a lot of media

Ok all you cap gurus. How many years has David Gettleman fvcked the Giants organization for with his last ditch effort to save his job with rejects. This is embarrassing.

Either Thomas was playing hurt or the offensive play calling was horrendous because most of the running plays went to the right, behind Pert or Solder. At least in the 1st half when I was watching.

But of course it was all Jones's fault.

Logan Ryan was getting roasted all day

Justin Herbert is going to win a Super Bowl

Last week too. Then he talked smack about Tua only throwing short passes. Logan got schooled but then did apologize. Got schooled again today. Herbert destroyed the Giants today.

Giants picked a OL before Herbert went in the drat
I can understand that since OL was needed
I just hope he's a good player for a long time because Herbert is a specimen.
65 yd TD pass in the air with Logan in coverage

Speaking of OL - Ereck Flowers is now heralded as Washington's best OL - on track for Pro Bowl. He's just mauling people inside at guard. Nobody needed to know a lot about OL to know Flowers wasn't a left tackle able to play out in space. These Washington vs Giants highlights are like all the other games Flowers played in.

I'll play along since you keep bringing up Jones.

Has the offense looked markedly worse with Jones out?
Has there been a huge drop-off with Mike Glennon taking over?
No.

So what exactly is Jones adding to the offense?
Once again, not saying Jones is the ONLY problem for the offense - but he certainly isn't helping it out.
He's not solving problems like a marquee QB is supposed to do.

Saw a funny stat online - Glennon had 3 TDs yesterday (2 passing, 1 rushing).
Jones hasn't done that since 2019 Week 15 (the infamous 5 TD game that is putting Jones in the HOF).
26 games since Jones accounted for 3 TDs in a game.

Have to give Gettleman credit.
Isn't the story that Gettleman was all-in on Herbert in 2019?
Unfortunately Herbert stayed in school and messed up everything.

If only he stayed true and picked Herbert in 2020 at #4 (similar to how the Cardinals drafted Murray even though they already had Rosen).

I'll admit I'm beginning to have my doubts about Jones, but Glennon was awful Sunday.
IMO the G-men need to fix the O-line first.....right after replacing the GM.

That's interesting - I kind of remember that Gettles was into Herbert.

I knew nothing about Herbert at the time but he seems headed to be the next star QB (Evan and Mr Clean were mentioning that today). I've seen him twice this year and hes the real deal - like when you saw Mahomes at first

Alas the Giants were in a Rush to dump Eli and they rushed to pick a QB.
Gettles said it was Shurmur who actually wanted Jones first and hardest.
I saw Duke at Army when Jones was there and don't even remember him

If I recall correctly, Gettleman was all in on Herbert. However Herbert was rumored to not want the Giants and stayed in school. He pulled a Peyton Manning who did the same to avoid being drafted by the Jets.

In addition to what @Section124 says above.

Jones finished his rookie season looking very good. At that point the narrative was he saved Gettlemen's job. We were not drafting Herbert there.

I'm not sure if Glennon was awful, he did lead a TD drive early, and he is dealing with the same offensive issues that Jones(and Eli before him) had to deal with. But I'm also not going to give him much credit for 2 of those TD's which came in the most garbage of garbage time.

Alluding to my post above, it is crazy that O-line and WR injury issues have been a thing for so long with this team.

I know many teams struggle with bad O-lines, and attrition is a thing for every team at every position.

But it certainly feels like our situation in both regards has been exemplary.....in a bad way......for years.

I understand he’s challenged talent wise for the NFL, and not a legitimate backup QB.
But you can certainly not run your snap clock down to zero on 4th and 1.

Glennon is terrible . I remember Rutgers recruiting this kid before he went to NC State . Come to think of it . It was Schiano.

At least they finally found their QB in Fromm. Too little too late.

Not sure why Judge didn't go to Fromm much sooner.
Because coaches are very stubborn to a fault. If their way of doing things doesn't work they are reluctant to try something different which to them shows weakness.

Considering Jones as "adequate" at best coming into the year, I repeatedly said the Giants needed to get a real QB2 to step in for Jones injury or ineffectiveness.

They literally went all-in on this year and blew up the cap for next year but didn't bother getting a real backup QB.

I'd like to see Fromm start next week to see if they found a QB2. A no risk proposition except for Fromm playing behind that OL

Giants are so boring I put the Jets on and it was good
🤣I did the exact same thing. I was watching and said to myself, this is so fvcking boring why am I watching this?(didn't see Fromm enter) Flipped on the Jets game and it was 17-17 and thought O this is better an actual game.
