Getting sick of Barkley. I know the oline sucks, but he’s been pretty bad regardless. Send his sorry ass back to psu.

True - he did have an amazing catch today though - only good part of the game

True. But seems like he gets hurt a lot - like a lot of the Giants (among NFL's most injured teams)

Hurt 3 out of 5 years coming into this season:

"When healthy, Shepard has always been one of the Giants’ most productive players, and one of the NFL’s best slot receivers. The “when healthy” part of that statement has always been an issue, though. He missed four games in 2020, six in 2019 and five in 2017."

Luckily the team restructured his contract to make it even more costly to cut him next year or the year after.
Needed that extra cap space to really put this years team over the top........

"Despite all of that, the Giants made the confusing decision to restructure Shepard’s contract earlier this year, converting some of his base salary into a signing bonus and spreading the cap hit out into the final two years of his deal, which runs through the 2023 season. That made it more difficult to cut Shepard anyway — before they would’ve saved $8 million by cutting him, now they’d only save $4 million and incur an $8 million dead cap penalty if he was cut before June 1. Per The Athletic, the dead money will increase by another $1.2 million if the injury sidelines Shepard for next season because he’ll be due an injury protection."

So remember when I said the Giants needed to pay for a competitive backup QB? Especially if the team wanted to actually compete for a playoff spot?

So much for that. Good thing we couldn't even contemplate bringing in someone with actual skill to challenge Jones.

Even forgetting the possiblity of Jones ineffectiveness - the OL is still a disaster and good chance Jones gets banged up.

So...not to pat myself on the back but I think this post from after the first preseason game is what the kids call #AgedLikeWine

Scrap it and start over.

gotta admit - I love this mock 1st round:
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft...-edge-rusher-four-quarterbacks-go-in-round-1/
That would be a great haul for the Giants if it were to come true.

Once they drafted Barkley without building a line to protect him, his fate was sealed. It's too bad because he was dynamic when healthy. The same logic should hold true when it comes to a young QB. Why bother drafting him if you're gonna throw him to the wolves each game? That trauma/injury factor is nearly impossible to fix.

In my view, the best way to build a team is defense first, OL, dynamic position players, then the QB. You can always get lucky on a retread QB lifer if you give him a chance to survive.

Why would we want a bad NFL starter: ie a good NFL backup, potentially win a game or two?

Once Jones was out, I went straight to tank mode.

It's official.
Jones done for the year.
Gotta say - for as much as I'm a "Jones hater" he still doesn't feel "injury prone" to me.

When do we start the countdown clock for the deadline to pick up his fully guaranteed 2023 option for approx $20m?

I think he definitely fits the bill of injury prone.

Now some guys are injury prone because their bodies just break easily.

Some guys are injury prone because their style of play leads to injury. That's Jones to me. He's a guy who needs to run to be fully effective, and when he runs, he leans into hits. That's fine when your a TE who bulks up to handle that punishment(and those guys miss games too) not conducive when you're a QB.

Tangent: Bark's strikes me as a combo of the two. Frail body, and overly electric running style.

My concern with Barkley - before the draft - was the same one Carl Banks had - heavily musceled/overbuilt.

When you get built-up to the point of being very close to natural limits, you can expect problems just like a car driven to limits. Drive a car close to top speeds on challenging roads and you'll be fixing it all the time. Even an Indy type car can do amazing things but it take a lot of maintenance.

Barkley is 6' 230lbs and benching 410lbs and squatting 650. That's more than a lot of lineman with bigger frames/muscles/ligaments . Maximums aside, the amount of weight you have to push around to train in upper limits can really wear you down

finally came to this conclusion

Joe Judge=Chris Ash

There was a glitter of hope 1 season (just like Ash's big 4 win season). Both tried (or try) to be who they worked for (Ash-Meyer, Judge-Belichek). And both say some cliched coach speak.

move on giants, if a strong candidate is there dont wait and regret it next year when the next gm fires him (barring a turn around or pro-judge gm)

Actually, I think the one thing they have in common is a team with a lousy OL. And I'm not sure how much input Judge has on the draft or FA signings.

^ Great article. Hard to figure how both New York teams could be that pathetic for that long.
Lucky they both have two high 1st round picks in the draft.

The draft has been a big problem for the Giants.
In first round they either pick stinkers or guys who leave

There were some flashes of talent but nothing really great. Beckham was the bast so far and he was a flake. Flowers is doing well for Redskins now but not All Pro yet. First rounders the last 10 years:

Andrew Thomas
Dan Jones
Barkley
Deandre Baker
Evan Engram
Eli Apple
Ereck Flowers
Beckham
Justin Pugh
David Wilson
Prince Amukamara

If this is true, what is the point of being a Giants fan if they keep making the same stupid moves for the past 9 years now?

Given the cap situation for next year, wont make much of a difference. Most important thing is a new GM who can start to unwind the personell/roster mess. I will be most concerned if they hire a GM from within.

A better list would be of the players that they passed over to make some of those picks.

True - look at Justin Herbert.

Some Giants picks were also matched-up with other picks that didn't go well for other teams
Lots of fans wanted Giants to pick Darnold - who was next pick after Barkley. That Giant draft was always going to be between those two guys with Josh Allen and Quenton Nelson on the edges. I didn't mind the Barkley pick - and he delivered in his first season. He just seemed like a guy who might be hurt a lot - like Zion Williams (who is not only hurt all the time byt getting heavy enough to play OL for Giants)

With the incomplete passes and penalties stopping the clock this game might not be over until 6PM.

Rooting for under 100 yrds of total offense.

If you're going to be inept, be really inept.

Fromm with 25 yards passing knows what I'm talking about.

On further review, the call of the previous replay review is overturned?
WTF??? The NFL is so humped up.

The Giant's QBs make the Pisarcik days look good.
Fromm with 19.5 rating

What decent GM candidate would want to come to the Giants when the ownership has said that you can't pick 2 of the most important part of the team in the coach and QB next year.

Well when you get hands to the face and your facemask grabbed and it ends up as an interception I'd say the true rating is at least marginally higher.
