I'm in San Diego on business, sitting here at Petco Park tonight, and I gotta tell ya, this place is unbelievable. The food and beer selection is second to none. Craft beers galore and almost every type of food known to mankind is available. I've been to 28 MLB ballparks. None compare to this place. I think there are more people eating and drinking than watching the game...lol

What's even more amazing is that they allow you to bring outside food into the stadium... and get this: they allow you to come in and out of the ballpark at your leisure. You just need to have your ticket stamped for re-entry. I don't know of another MLB, NFL, NHL or NBA venue that allows this.

I know BK doesn't like OTs cluttering up the hoops board, but maybe he'll throw me a bone and not move or delete this thread since the Padres are his favorite team. :sunglasses:

i agree with both...the stadium is cool and the team doesn't score. Of course their 2b and SS are in my fantasy lineup....cheap for a reason.

Did you happen to run in to Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini?

Couldn't be more right. Saw a game there the other year and loved it. From a full service restaurant for the masses like Hodad's to the craft beer on the concourses. Also like how when a non-game is being played it is incorporated in to the downtown area.

Last year went to an Indians game and I was amazed they started allowing people to come and go too. seems like an easy way to sneak people in with your friends tickets. We did it to run to the bar serving $2 beers. I think I watched one inning and our GF's were pissed lol.

Move to SD last year. Petco is amazing. Did you check out the bars in the building in left field?

Hey PHD , whats the cost of living compared to NYC area, I was there last year and fell in love with the place. I am currently in central Jersey

I would say it is roughly 10% less. We were leasing a 3BD in Edgewater before we moved and moved to a 3BD in La Jolla in a gated community with 500 more sq. ft. and an ocean view from the master and it cost us $200 more per month. We are in escrow on a place now and like NYC metro it is all about location. You can buy a nice house for 500k, 10 miles from the beach. 1.25M can get you a 2000 sq. ft semi-detached 3BD within walking distance to the beach in La Jolla. The same money can buy you a 2300 sq ft 4BD home in Pacific Beach. 11M will put you ocean front in La Jolla with 4000 sq ft.

The big thing is that your daily expenses fall off the table because it is free to go to the park and beach, the gym costs $80/month for the family (rather than $80/person), child care is half the price, and you are not paying $25/day in tolls or public transportation.

Bottom line, moving here was the best decision my family has ever made.

I stayed in Coronado last summer for a week and really enjoyed it. Given I have no interest in leaving NYC, I wouldn't care to live there now, but if I was in the market for a winter retirement residence, it would be Coronado.

I didn't get to Petco, but next time I visit I will do so.

Mike...

Agreed...HATE the OT stuff...but hey, I'll let this one slide...

I was at Petco the first season it opened. It is the finest park in the Majors that I have personally been to (admittedly less than 1/2 of them). If Rutgers didn't exist, I'd have moved to San Diego years ago for a variety of reasons.

Padres are a tough team to root for out here in NJ, and it looks like its going to be a rough season for them...but if you ever have the chance, please do take Mike's advice and check out Petco!

My daughter lived in a condo across the street from Petco. I would stop at the Kilted bar/grill for a drink. Did you notice the Gwinn statute outside the park about center field

Good info but not for me
Son, ironically today signed the papers to attend UCLA graduate school with a 6 year grant and a $28k stipend guaranteed for 5 years and no teaching in his 1st year. Passed on Oxford and Cambridge. Weather the same 365 days per year. You do need a coat some days and lots of sun screen

Even better than the Baltimore Orioles ball park which expert state the finest of all stadiums in the US?
Curious on your take?

Second dumbest thing I ever did was to leave America's finest city after 14 years of pure joy. . Petco is the perfect city venue. As they say in San Diego "Petco .
"Where the pets go."

The park in the park at Petco is the most fan friendly venue in baseball. Camden is great but after the game you have to walk to get to the fun
At Petco fun is right outside the stadium. And so is San Diego.
