OT: Post different types of beer you've tried, and how it was.

Haha yeah I realized I just copied what person above me had. For me like I said Heady is a great one but people think it's better than it is because of how they distribute it. They've made it so you think it's special because you can hardly get it.

True. A friend once told me that the best tasting beer in the world is the one you can’t get.

Will be at a place called Cafe Max in Brighton Beach/Coney Island in a couple of weeks. Russian owner and looks to have a great selection of brews including Russian beers. I have zero experience with any Russian beers. Are there any good ones? Or is it similar to Polish beers?

Had the Dogfish 120 for the first time yesterday. IPAs aren't my 1st choice, but this one is f-ing good! I bought 2 bottles and plan on cellaring the other, but the temptation will be tough. May have to go buy another

Philly Beer Week events should be starting to be posted soon, as it kicks off on June 1st with the Hammer of Glory trek throughout the city. One PBW Event that I recommend is on 6/5 at Monk's Cafe. It's a Maine Brewing tap takeover with both Lunch and Dinner on draft. Great opportunity to cross off a bucket list beer in Dinner. Lunch is an excellent IPA as well.

Lager lovers should look for Founders newest easy drinking (4.4%) Solid Gold. Very tasty and priced right. 15 pack can under $15. This will be in my Summer beer rotation for sure.
After trying Founders Solid Gold, I'll never buy another another mass produced domestic lager again. I told a few friends and they've all given a big thumbs up. Perfect beer for the golf course or after cutting the grass.

Magnify Born Day is good, but like other Magnify stouts, it isn't as good as Kane or Troon. I'd rank it about the same as or slightly better than Magnify Impatiently Waiting, but not as good as Magnify YYKM Chilis, Cinnamon, Chocolate and Coffee.

Matt what do you know about Levante? I got Fictional Characters and Praire Fire from friends for setting up our NYC ride.

In Utah there’s a beer called Polygamy Porter. Their motto is Why Have Just One. It’s actually pretty good.

Utah is home to Epic Brewing, which makes some of the best BA Imperial Stouts out there...Big Bad Baptist. Their Triple BA variant is absurdly good.

Had 2 excellent double IPA's lately, Evil Twin's Breaking the Waves and J Wakefield Brewing's Bye Bye Bye. A friend brought home over 10 bottles of Funky Buddha from Florida, the best being an Imperial stout, The Love Below, 2 awesome porters Maple Bacon Coffee Porter and Last Buffalo in the Park. As for local brews Demented in Middlesex has couple new beers, I'm not a fan of sours but Aku Aku was ok. Their new single hop Eldorado IPA called Organa was excellent.

Some of the beers from Mother's Day, Bolero Snort TMNB a brown ale was one of the better browns. Melvin Brewing Chuck Morris was very good. Black Flag Mambo Sauce double IPA was really good too. Singlecut Cold Fire DDH IPA was awesome as was Brew Dog Hazy Jane IPA. St Boniface Libation DIPA and Henniker Hop Slinger IPA were solid too. Sterling Pig The Snuffler IPA and Lickinghole Creek 9 Mile IPA were good too.

The local Total Wines has Funky Buddha Imp Stout, The Love Below, in stock. But $28 for a 22 oz bomber bottle? I’m price sensitive on anything over 20 and not a huge fan of FB.

Cycle Brewing in St Pete sells their BA Imp Stout releases for 35 each so maybe that reflects the current market for BA brews.

BA Imperial Stouts and BA Sours are the most expensive beers on the market. Many are more expensive than most wines, mainly because the shelf life for those beers are exceptionally long. A BA Imperial Stout can age several years and still taste glorious.

Stouts that are barrel aged are expensive to make and buy. For the most part are worth every penny. My favorite by far in 2017 was Ballast Point's Victory at Sea that was barrel aged. I'd love to have some of that left but we drank it all at the Army/Navy game in the snow.
Hope that comes back next year.

I still have a 4 pack. By far the best Victory at Sea ever made. Aged in High West Rye and Bourbon barrels. High West is an underrated distillery from Utah. The Lagunitas Willettized from last year was fantastic as well.

I am now that I'm aware of it. I can hit 2 anniversary parties now that day...Tonewood's 2 year anniversary is also that day.
I'l be there around 3pm. Guest bartending or working the gift shop area in the taproom. Bands will be out back but I need to be where the TVs are. Belmont Stakes day too.

Awesome news for Philly beer fans. Prairie is back with 31st and Wharton. They were on hiatus when Bella Vista merged with Origlio, now they're back. Hoping to score some Bomb, Apple Brandy Barrel Noir, Pirate Bomb and Paradise. Churchville Inn always had at least one Bomb variant on draft at all times.

NYC beer fans will like this if they enjoy West Coast IPAs. Melvin from Wyoming is launching in NYC. We've had them for about a year now in Philly and they crush it with IPAs. 2x4 and Citradamus are both outstanding.

Been debating with myself about posting this on an anonymous board. But since most everyone on this thread knows me (or my dog...ok mostly my dog) and we are beer friends. My brother in law owns Shangy's in Emmaus. He is married to my youngest sister. He is currently battling Hodgkins Lymphoma. He is about half way through his treatments. Prognosis is great, treatments suck. If you happen to go there any time soon just tell him his Rutgers friends love him and pray for him. My sister and him have brought their 3 kids to several Rutgers games. Thanks

Had a very tasty pale wheat ale from Parallel 49 called Jerkface 9000. Sam Adams New England IPA was decent, 21st Amendment's Hello or High Watermelon was a refreshing fruit beer.

Since you live in Ohio, you might plan a Rutgers Football road trip (Michigan State this year) and stay in Grand Rapids to visit the many Breweries in town.

In my last trip to Grand Rapids (home of many Breweries and a Brewery map), we found Mitten Brewery (an old Firehouse). Other favorites are HopCat and Founders located in downtown Grand Rapids.

On Monday nights, Mitten offers both a Sampler Flight of Beers (choice of about 15 beers) and a Pizza Flight (with some very unusual pizza toppings) as well.

I really enjoyed the following Beer Flights last October:
  • Relief
  • Country Strong
  • Harvest
  • Doc's Noto
  • 84 Imperial Red

Cinder in Philly for PBW is the place to be outside of Monk's. Eclipse Night on 6/5 with both 16 and 17 Eclipse variants PLUS Pappy 10 and 20, Perennial Night on 6/6 with both Abraxas and Vanilla Abraxas, and Scotch BA Parabola and Coconut Rye Whiskey BA Parabola on 6/7. I'm hitting Eclipse Night then heading to Monk's for Maine Lunch/Dinner.
