OT: Post different types of beer you've tried, and how it was.

Also Firestone Walker XXII Anniversary Ale. Getting the Holy Grail tonight...18 Bo and Luke. Aged in Pappy Barrels.
We always talk about aging certain style beers and the great benefits. Monday was one of those days I had many chances. And it made me a greater believer of that process. However, figuring out the peak is always the unknown. Had both '15 and '16 NCBC Leon. Both were vastly improved from fresh. However, the '16 was an unanimous choice of the best. Man was that a great brew!!

The BA Expedition Stout by Bell's was incredible. Willettized is good but like many rye whiskey BA aged stouts will be even better after cellaring it. Best dollar for dollar stout out there. I'm gonna crack 18 Bo & Luke later from Against the Grain in Louisville. Smoked Imperial Stout aged in Pappy Van Winkle Barrels.

Had a bottle of Kane's Holy Nights, was great as expected. Had a 2017 Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout, was awesome. Christmas Bomb an Imperial Stout from Prairie Artisan Ales delicious as well. Had about 40 other different microbrews in last week, need a couple days off

Going to Burlington for a few days for a little get away to ski/hang/explore with my wife. Anyone have recommendations for breweries or bars?

Definitely checking Foam. Won’t have time to get to alchemist, Hill farmstead, etc.

Haven’t had much Hill farmstead and would love to find some on tap if possible.

I was actually just in Vermont about a week ago for skiing and to visit some breweries. In Burlington, definitely check out Foam and Four Quarters. We did this trip three years ago and went to Zero Gravity, whose beer is pretty good and it's also a restaurant so you can sit down and eat there, but this time some locals we ran into at Foam recommended going to Mule Bar for a good beer bar with solid food, and we were glad we asked them. We were all satisfied with the food and they just happened to have CBS on tap as well as a number of other very good beers. If you don't have time to get to Hill Farmstead, you might want to go to Mule because they should have at least one Hill Farmstead beer on tap.

Forgot to add, on the way home you can stop at a very small brewery called River Roost. Sample some of their beers, pick up a few cans, and then go across the parking lot to Big Fatty's BBQ. It's a BBQ place that also has a great beer selection. We found CBS at this place too.

It was so unusual for us to just casually walk into a bar that has CBS listed as any other beer on their tap list instead of it being a crowded special tapping, and it happened to us twice in Vermont. Then again, the same thing happened to me this past week as I found CBS at Destination Dogs in New Brunswick and Pino's in Highland Park, so maybe there is a lot more of it to go around this time...

Kbs, cbs and bourbon county stout and variants are much more available than they used to be. I saw a place with cbs in point a week ago still in bottles.

When I sat down at the Sawmill in Seaside and saw CBS this past summer I guess we could say CBS jumped the shark. I still ordered one though.

Getting that tomorrow and Cypress Naughty/Nice cans. Cypress I hear is one of the up and comers in NJ doing a ton of good things.
Idk what to think of Cypress...seems pretty average for stouts based on reviews but I haven't tried any.

Enjoying an Insane in the Grain (Now with Less Suck) from Cypress. Good stuff.

Got my hands on a 6 of Stone Enjoy by 01.01.19 Brut IPA.

Stone comes through again with another good beer. I particularly like this style because it is a clean, crisp, hoppy beer. I can't deal with the unfiltered trend on the pale ales & IPAs. It is good once in a while, but every brewery was going with it.

It is the 3rd Brut IPA I have had, the first was NoDa in Charlotte and it was very good as well. The 2nd was Grimm, and while Grimm is usually good, I have no idea how/why they made a hazy "Brut IPA", it made no sense (perhaps the bar messed up the menu).

While it is trending now, I view it kind of like a throw back to the early west cost IPA days.

Happy New Year everyone!

I agree the Hazy IPA craze has completely jumped the shark. Too many in general and too many bad ones.
We have hit the point that there is too many craft breweries who really don't know what they are doing and just follow trends.

Started 2019 with my first Citywide Special around 1 am last night...Knob Creek Small Batch 100 Proof and Epic Big Bad Baptista. It's gonna be a good year.

Picked up Power Juicer and Kalashnikoffee for NYE. Both were a hit. Kalashnikoffee is a big one @14.5%. Those who had it, shared a can.

I agree on the sharing on 14.5. I do that with Bourbon County Brand Stout or whatever the heck it is called. Power Juicer is always a hit. I shared some with family on Christmas and everyone who had it immediately said, WOW that is good!!!!

Two Ton Brewing opens brewery with outdoor biergarten, speakeasy in Kenilworth

Featuring beers of every variety, including its Extra-Special Chocolate Vanilla Porter, Hammer and Ale IPA, Stay Woke Milk Stout and soon-to-come sour beers, the brewery features an industrial chic design with reclaimed elements made by the owners and local artist Brian Metros, as well as murals and installations by Pawel Wnek.

With 2,620 square feet and the ability to accommodate about 100 people, the brewery — open from Thursday through Sunday — includes an outdoor biergarten, indoor taproom and even a basement "speakeasy" themed as a library, to pay homage to the team’s background in education, which includes personal touches such as their own published books and relics from their childhood home.

Got my hands on some beers from Massachusetts over the weekend, Trillium's Cacao PM Dawn, a stout, was great of course. Treehouse's Super Typhoon was a disappointment, an Imperial DIPA it was too much, it fried my tongue and throat, and I'm normally an IPA fan. Many other beers from the weekend with Living the Dream Brewing Powder Run Vanilla, a cream ale, being the surprising highlight.

Epic Big Bad Baptista 2018 release #21 is ok/good, not great. I'm surprised, as it's been pretty hyped. Pretty thin and a little hoppy. I had high hopes it would be close to Abraxas but it's not even close. Wouldn't buy again.

Just left Joe Canals in Lawrenceville. First, the shocking truth. Spent about 20 mins there and didn't buy anything!! But did find something some of you have been looking for. They had Ballist Points BA Victory at Sea. Was tempted to buy more but figured I would give you folks a chance, your welcome lol.
Also Goose Island Bourbon County has jumped the shark. They have a lot left over, unheard of just a few years ago.

Absolutely love the Victory at Sea. This one definitely benefits from some time in the cellar. I did a comparison with a 2017 and a 2018, and there is a noticeable difference. The 18 was way more boozy and left a slight alcohol aftertaste. Not so with the 17.
Goose Island BCS is still an outstanding beer even if it's no longer a white whale. Had the vanilla variant.... amazing!
