His new boss Jedd Fisch didnt play football, played tennis iirc, so I think he’s fine with it lol.Steve Belichick has been in the coaching game for awhile and his dad might have helped him along in the trade , but he's getting this job based on his own merits.
As for playing experience being a factor in coaching skills, there are some examples of coaches that never played but were considered good HCs.
Mike Leach was a well respected HC, who never played college ball, whose offense was copied by a lot of other programs
One name on the non player list might have been a failure as a HC, but Charlie Weiss was Considered a real good OC
