OT: Stock and Investment Talk

Cathie Wood doesn’t like large cap.
the measure of any investor is not what they do when the mkt is uptrending but what they do when it's sideways or in a downtrend. Everyone looks great when you're 10-0 but 5-5 you see the cracks

I periodically and regularly buy in relatively small amounts to DCA. But I've also been sitting on some cash waiting on a market correction or recession or whatever.

I could write a country song I been waiting so long. 😃
Eddie Money?

But also consider that despite the overall market not having a significant correction in a year, there have been sectors which have corrected. Lots of stuff way off their high's, ranging from value to high growth.

Plenty of below the surface corrections.

Good conversation (cut and paste without the "....." at the beginning and end):

The 10 year moves just a few basis points and the NASDAQ investors get spooked. Any meaningful move could cause some concern for the growth investors. Energy still looking good. Nat gas up big and oil looking solid today. Although we are going green, Nat gas is and will drive most electricity generation for years….. and Nat gas companies enjoy decent free cash flow when Nat gas prices are at $3; and the current price is over $5.25. With the demand for LNG worldwide, well run Nat gas companies might be a decent investment. But, please do your own analysis; this is just my very novice opinion.

Maybe people reading the articles about Merkel over the weekend noticed that despite making major investments in wind and solar that Germany has actually increased the use of fossil fuels because they shut down their nukes,

For clean energy, modern nuke is the way to go (and as of now, the only financially sustainable option).

That is irrelevant with respect to fossil fuel usage and price if the plants are shut down. Very relevant to the price of electricity as Germany and Japan show.

more supply chain issues

i talk to a factory in same region and their power was turned off 4 days last week. they use a large generator but obviously can handle only so much.

“We were able to substitute alternative chips, and then write the firmware in a matter of weeks,” Musk said. “It’s not just a matter of swapping out a chip; you also have to rewrite the software.”

Not bad for a "car company".
The last thing I want to hear is how some any auto manufacturer is rushing a software rewrite for cars about to be in on the road with me. I'd rather hear about how they rigorously followed best practices and took their time getting it absolutely right.

I'm not pleased to be sharing the highway with cars running beta software.

It will be perfect. Immaculate conception, err, I mean coding.

Surely Musk has managed what no software development company in history has ever managed to do - write complex software very fast without creating lots of bugs.

Well, he has managed to make batteries on a mass scale that don't blow up all the time.

This post is not in reference to FSD beta.

Energy, financials, and resources are back in vogue.

I had TELL up 18% today.

I also had MMAT up 20%, and even Ford up 7.5%

I owned bought and sold some F calls last week at a nice profit, should have held them a bit longer.

Not a peep from the bulls today, but my comments from yesterday were spot on. 10 year goes up only 6 bp today and it’s the worst day on the NASDAQ since March.

Bulls are working today to make money to take advantage of this chicken little dip. New ATHs soon as companies continue to make record earnings. Buy, buy, buy!

When do you ever "not buy"? Are you referring to dollar cost averaging when you say buy, buy, buy?

Amazing how much TSLA has rallied since Michael Burry announced his $530 million dollar short position on May 17. Hopefully he closed his short position or else his clients will be very unhappy

Most of the time it's DCA, but on special occasions, I will dump in more cash on top of that (which is what I did when I bought those stocks in early March).

how could you not be a bull? Inflation doesn't mean and end, it means new opportunities

Lots of opportunity. This is when the real money is made. :)

Near term bearish outlook really depends on what the bull response is tomorrow to this sell off today. We are close to the lows from last week (/ES) so it'll be interesting to see if we get lower lows or not or if we repair the large single prints on the /ES market profile chart.
