OT: Stock and Investment Talk

Regarding DWAC, congrats to all the investors who were in at the start and saw the stock go up by (what?) 800% over night. That doesn't happen often, so my hat is off.

However, I personally think that a lot of what Trump touches turns to dung and/or benefits only him and his big money interests. I don't have any more interest in this. BTW, I also sold my shares in FB today. The bad publicity is piling up and the deal breaker for me was the report of young people turning away from FB. I may buy back in the future, but FB is almost cartoonishly villainous right now.

Picked up some TSLA Dec 795 puts today towards the close. I have a funny feeling this week is gonna get ugly. May as well make some money for Christmas gifts.

I’m not sure how to view the Hertz deal from Hertz’s perspective. When I travel for work, vacation, or kids sporting event, I usually grab whatever is the cheapest or suits my needs (eg, SUV). And if I’m traveling to an unfamiliar place do I really want to worry about where I charge my vehicle? What if my hotel doesn’t have a charging station available? I definitely would not pay a premium absent unusual circumstances. Great deal for Tesla not sure about Hertz.
Lots of "I" in that post. It's like saying Amazon's decision to go into online retail is poor because I don't shop online.
Logical fallacy...it's not about you.

p.s...Your Tesla takes care of where, when, and how long you have to charge. Put in your destination and you're all set.

I didn’t say it was a poor decision. It’s just not clear that this will increase Hertz’s revenue and that people are willing to pay more for an EV rental. Hertz has said little about the financial impact and has instead focused on the Tesla hype. But I guess what do you expect from a company that just got out of bankruptcy.

I'm not one to get in the head of Hertz execs, but they probably felt like they needed a differentiator - something to set them apart from all the other rental car firms.

I sold half my FB after the close but it’s so low that I think it might go higher tomorrow. It was the demon stock everyone hated last quarter also. I might sell all by tomorrow, luckily I brought it low and made a profit. GOOG coming out tomorrow and V, MA, AMZN comes out on Thursday, hope to make money on AMZN. Again it’s so low, I might have to hold till after the earning comes out. The others I’ll probably sell before their earning call.

Those were expensive in my opinion. Too much Vol is priced in and don’t see much volatility or selling going forward. Good luck. I’m waiting.

eta don’t forget the stock split risk.

I believe they announced a big buyback after the bell. I'm sure it had nothing to do with minimizing any downturn

TSLA is rocking it, betting against it is dumb. Buy and hold. Bought in March ay $570. Very happy and not selling for a long, long time.

Since I appreciate the high flying gambler:

Q4 delivery #s are unlikely to blow anybody away now that Tesla announced no deliveries from Austin or Berlin this year.

Elon has $20 billion in stock options that are set to expire. Not sure how that works or if he has to sell, but I'm sure the FUDsters will try to generate some negativity with that.

Berlin is ready to start production, but miles of German regulatory red tape has prevented this. This could drag on.

That's all I got for you. I think you're a fool betting against this company and long term, it's suicide, but good luck anyway.

Appreciate the color. I personally think it’s the opposite. Short term up and long term down.

Options or restricted stock? And if they are options what are the strike prices? BTW, is Elon a US citizen or resident alien?

I've heard of a spiffy pop. That's when your stock goes up more in one day than the initial investment. But what's it called when $TSLA's market gap goes up more in one day than $F total market cap? A Fordy pop?

What do they charge you if you don’t bring it back fully charged?

Since it's rental car company, probably a lot. A nice feature for Hertz is they can put chargers right where the cars are parked. No more sending out someone to gas up the car. Hertz will also probably get some sweet tax breaks for investing in chargers.

Not hard to find. Many hotels & B&Bs offer charging solutions. Very easy to find using a Telsa.

None of the hotels and motels I drive by look like they have charging stations. I also have not seen any in the Valley of the Malls, Rte.s 4 & 17. Weren't they were supposed to be there by now. The picture you may paint may exist in 2025, but it doesn't today.

So what are the electrification plays? I’m playing catch up on the infrastructure and materials beneficiaries. EVGO? ABB? Any likely winners who’s growth will track the EV market?

I love days like this. Seems like LCID is up today as well... sympathy??? Has LCID delivered any cars yet? They were supposed to deliver them this month.
Deliveries starting today.

With a Tesla, your phone is your car key. Book your rental on online, walk up to your model 3 and off you go. Hertz is going to take advantage of this. A nice convenience and selling point.

And for those who have never driven a Tesla and are obsessed about charging, give it a rest already. It's a non issue. You never have to look for charging.

You might not have to look for charging but you will have to wait for charging, especially in cities.

yeah. I've been using dividend income to buy protective puts on the stocks that have been shooting up, so it's using house money for hedging purposes.

I'm waiting til Nov 1 to put new money to work. Superstitious after seeing too many massacres the last week of October over the years.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the Hertz deal is that Mark Fields, RU grad and former Ford Motors exec, is the Hertz interim CEO. Like I said before, kudos to Tesla because it’s a great deal assuming it’s not at wholesale pricing. But, with Hertz just coming out of bankruptcy and spending big on this deal they put all their eggs in this basket and will need to put up great numbers. I suspect you’ll see Ford and GM start announcing EV deals with municipalities and local gov’t. The Newark PD won’t be driving around in Teslas.

@RUAldo

personally, I think being associated with commercial fleet is a negative, especially for luxury segment. Short term, it’s great for Tesla. Long term, not sure it’s a positive for the brand.
