I don’t want it to be a racial thing, i want it to be a music form everyone likes,
Everyone likes Taylor Swift and Beyoncé because they have talent
Uhhhhh you sure you didn’t say those things???

No, not everyone likes Taylor👍🏾

Hi! I’m in my 40s& I love 90s rap.
Nas
Dr Dre
Easy E
NWA
Wu-Tang
Cypress Hill
Snoop
To name a few…
Today’s rap is very different than it once was.
No one can deny that.

Maybe more people would have enjoyed the halftime if they brought TS out to crip walk instead of Serena. 🤣🤣
Bro the fact that he brought out Serena, Drake’s Ex, to do that on the Super Bowl stage after Wimbledon fined her for it was LEGENDARY. He elevated that queen and gave her her mea culpa.

I agree that most modern rap is truly awful.. Kendrick is one of the exceptions.

Imma say something that will be controversial but it really isn’t if you listen to the lyrics. Kendrick’s ability as an MC and a storyteller rivals Tupac Shakur. I don’t think he’s Nas (who I consider the GOAT), I don’t think he’s the white boy (Eminem), but i think he’s right there under them

90s rap was good, late 80s even better! :)

Rap has been complete trash since Ludacris. Never recovered.

Ludicrous?

Really?! You think ‘MOVE B*TCH! Get out the way!’ Was the last time rap wasn’t trash?!
🤣🤣🤣🤣

You think Nickleback is good rock don’t you?

More people don’t like Lamar.
Swifts sales numbers in every form dwarf Lamar….fact
Do they? Have you seen this board and the internet whenever Taylor shows up to a game? She also wasn’t available to perform. So how bout you give me a relevant artist to perform who’se latest hit has occurred more recently than the Reagan Years?

Nickleback should be used to torture prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. I hate all formulaic music (which is practically 100% of today's crap).

Ludicrous to rap is the equivalent of Nickleback and creed to rock and roll… and you just said that was the last time Rap was good…. WOW

Someone’s on drugs

I’ll do better, I’ll put a Super Bowl performance on the entire viewing audience will appreciate.
One people will get out of their seats and sing along to

Hey call up Jay Z, maybe he’ll give you the shot next year! Be a hell of a job to follow up a 22x Grammy winner but hey, let’s see what you got!

Forewarning though, Bruce Springsteen is trash, please don’t try any ‘Boss covers’ to be cool, he just sounds constipated trying to squeeze out a poop when he sings and we don’t need that🤣👍🏾

I wouldn’t consider Springsteen for even a second .

I’m excited now, so what are we thinking? Bon Jovi is boring as hell, it’s like Aerosmith light. What kinda music are we gonna hear next year from you? Maybe a reinvented version of “The Rubberband Man”?

National backlash? WTF?!

I didn't particularly like or dislike the show, but "national backlash" to a free show you didn't need to watch might be the most overdramatic thing ever posted on a board full of overdramatic posts.
National in the sense of a wide variety of sources opinions etc . It’s all over not sure how you can’t see it. Since you were triggered by my use of the word national let’s just say popular opinion was that the show was not good .

You deleted the post didnt you?🤣

Don’t need weed, your daughter serviced me just fine this morning🤣
You smoked a lot of weed this morning haven't you?

1. Look back, all posts are there.
2. My daughter is in grade school. Are you a pedophile?

Sasha Allen can sing her ass off
Bon Jovi guesting on one song, playing wing and a prayer would be 5 minutes of a rocking stadium.
Jelly Roll could sing a song, hell I’d bring out Darius Rucker for a song 😊
I’d finish it off with Insane in the membrane

I think it’s more pointing out that for the last 15 years since they switched from ‘legacy artists’ to ‘modern artists’ every single show has received criticism.

This isn’t even close though to the most controversial halftime show anyway. Some of you out here acting like this ‘hurt the super bowl and it’s luster’ have CLEARLY forgotten about Janet Jackson….

Who the hell is Sasha Allen?

I’m not kidding who is that? I’ve never once heard that name.

Upon a google search, your solution is a contestant from the Voice 10 years ago currently on tour with the ‘pussycat dolls’?

That’s your solution?! Thank goodness Jay Z is in charge.

As for ‘jelly roll’, why are we glorifying a morbidly obese man while having him perform with the BULLSH*T version of HOOTIE they call Darius Rucker….

Insane in the membrane? 1998 called and also told us JNCO Jeans were awesome as well.

You’ve lost me again

22 time grammy...lol that term is meaningless in the 21st century

I have a feeling most anything modern to you is ‘meaningless’, fortunately your generation no longer matters when making these decisions.

Don’t forget your prune juice today gramps!

You don’t know about your illegitimate daughter with serious daddy issues?

Don’t worry, I took care of her this am since you weren’t there for her growing up🤣
You truly are a case study on why not to smoke weed. Confused and angry. Hard way to live life.

Zap you have the boards respect for sure but the Super Bowl halftime show is not for those who already watch it’s a bridge to new audiences. Just look at this board how many said they watch the game but not pregame or halftime regardless of who is playing? The demographic of this board is already an NFL audience but you know who ain’t yet? My 10-14 year old girls who came for halftime and joined my 17 year old and all sang to the Lamar halftime show. The 10-14 year old girls then proceeded to hang around and watch some of the third quarter.

Is that it? Or am I just trolling the sh*t out of an arrogant sarcastic ass who is incapable of not responding?🤣

Buddy your a case study of people who should smoke weed. I don’t think you know how to seperate sarcasm from reality anymore do you Irish Catholic?

Someone gets it.

Older legacy acts appeal to the older crowd, the NFL knows they have that crowd. They know this for a fact because of a few years ago, remember when all you geriatrics kept whining about how you were done watching the nfl because of the whole anthem kneeling thing? Yea we all knew that would last about a week…. You’re tuning into the Super Bowl regardless.

Meanwhile a WHOLE BUNCH of young people who otherwise do not care about football tuned in to watch one of the biggest music stars on the planet perform

So here’s the problem, you are labeling “Rap” as a catch-all for every artist in hip hop. Every form of music has its good and bad artists. As for TV ratings? They’re irrelevant today. No one under the age of 50 carries a cable subscription anymore, it’s all streams and YouTube.

Comparing Kendrick Lamar to Travis Scott and Takeshi69 is the equivolent of comparing Meg white to Neil Peart because they were both rock and roll drummers… RIDICULOUS

Buddy there’s FAR more money in becoming a rapper today than a rocker or anything else. Take a look at the bands on those highest grossing tours list. What rock band on their is less than 20 years old?

Again I’m sorry to tell you this, but you are officially OLD👍🏾

Rap isn't really that deep or sophisticated or varied.

Nobody plays anything - lots of cursing and slurs - pounding base with lots of posturing - rap is meant to be felt in butt-flexing ways and not listened to with any sophistication - its primitive. In a first listen of group of Olivia Rodrigo, Phobe Bridgers, Rhiannon Giddens, The 1975, Ed Sheeran, The Cure and any rapper and and you can know the rapper in 5 seconds (1 probably).

Lamar, Scott and SixNine are different the way Hershey is different from Reese's and Snickers - chocolate snacks with no value. Its not like one guy is Chinese menu and one is Vegan and another is keto.

I'll add to that that the average rap audience doesn't know much - they aren't monuments to education. Rhythm and bass are hypnotic and aphrodisiacal - makes appeal to the lower nature and no surprise rap has a violent streak as wide as the Gulf of America.

As I said - ALL the most profitable music tour lists have no rappers on them.

If you really knew the arts you would know that art quality isn't a steady stream upward. The arts collapse and decay all the time. Right now its widely acknowledged that Hollywood, TV, music and writing are bottoming out quality wise. Smart consumers understand that - then you have the young rap consumers. There's more musical sophistication in a set by The Cure (hot tour last year) than all the rappers work in a year. Boom, boom, boom..slur, slur, slur

In first 12 lines of Lamar's "Not Like Us" there are 4 slurs not to mention the usual mother insults, curse words etc. Its just junk

"Nail a ___gga to the cross, he walk around like Teezo
What's up with these jabroni-a** __ggas tryna see Compton?
The industry can hate me, f__k 'em all and they mama"

Oh Pulitzer magic is amazing

No one can answer why Sweet Caroline in any filled to capacity stadium in the country is more receptive and fun for the attendees than anything Lamar sung…. You fail to admit the live crowd was silent and fell asleep

It wasn’t. We must have watched different shows. I can promise you that stadium had more fun screaming ‘A Minor…..” at drake than anything to do with sweet Caroline

Rex-
As I was told, your experience with your youngins isn’t absolute everywhere. referring to my daughter.

I have a senior daughter at the always has been multi-cultural, 50-50 split white and black Montclair High School.

After game football parties are loaded with country music singing drinking games by the same ratios

You didn’t watch the game and don’t go to stadiums.
Sweet Caroline at any RU venue filled to capacity would be more receptive.
I’m in no way advocating for Neil Diamond to perform so don’t go that route.

Yes but if my story doesn’t jive with yours that is still 50/50 and still is a net postive outreach from the NFL to a new audience.

So,
Just curious what you think of your 10 and 14 year old daughters listening and I assume dancing to the un-cut lyrics of Kendrick?

Respectfully, you are a FOOL when it comes to music. To suggest Rap isn’t deep or sophisticated is truly one of the most ignorant things you could possibly say. To suggest the audience isn’t sophisticated shows a level of stupidity that I truly did not know was possible on a board full of stupid takes. To suggest the style of music is "primative" has undertones that show exactly who you are as a person bud. We see you

The fact that you think Takeshi69 is reese's to Kendrick Hershey is remarkable. I couldn't have asked you to say a more ignorant thing to highlight just how stupid you are on the subject if I tried. You just made the equivalent of comparing Tom Waits to Freddy Mercury in terms of singing ability. WOW! Thank you for that. Truly I could not have replied in any way to make you look dumber than your own words right there. Truly incredible, THANK YOU for the GIFT!

You haven’t addressed the fact that of the top 10 grossing tours from last year are all acts that have been around for 20+ years (you wouldn’t mention 2023 of course as there were multiple rappers and hip hop artists tours in the top 10 that year). What modern music is appealing to the masses the way rap music does today?

The fact that while making your arguments for music you brought up anything to do with Robert Smith is comedy GOLD! You said the Cure! Holy Christ you uncultured Neanderthal of musical horseh*t!🤣

As I’ve said many times, you don’t have to like rap, but I don’t understand why you feel the need to disrespect it.

Do me a favor and look up the words to ‘Dear Mama’ by Tupac and ‘Lose Yourself’ by Eminem while telling me rap doesn't have depth. Then follow up by trying to tell me about Ed Sheeran, the 1975 and Robert Smith🤣🤣🤣
