Katy Perry singing “I kissed a girl and I liked it” has more widespread appeal than the artist who had the biggest song in the world in 2024?

The days of mega stars is over?! Have you heard of Taylor Swift? How bout Beyoncé? And I’m the one who’se high?!
Your generation think they invented music and superstars

And Katy perry sucks...dodnt she share the stage with others

Can you tell name another city (outside of Rock Ridge) where horses have been punched? The other things do happen elsewhere. Old couches are an endangered species in Morgantown.

That’s quite the random example you’re bringing up.

I have no idea if a horse was punched in another city. Chances are there have been other really dumb and senseless acts in those cities.

I’m in no way condoning wreckless and dangerous behavior to celebrate but it cracks me up how people on this board constantly think these types of “celebrations” only happen in Philly.

Especially funny today!

Hater tears are the saltiest.

You don’t have kids bud. Stop lying

Also B-list? You can criticize the performance all you want, the dude had easily the most popular track in the world in 2024…. Legitimately, do you just whine about everything? How many screen names do you have between twitter, fourchan, this board, fake name on Facebook, etc etc while you make up an identity to try to make yourself fit in while only getting codgy 70 year olds to agree with you? Oh of course in between trying to convince whoever that your next NFT or memecoin is going to make you rich…. 🤣🤣🤣

What a LOSER!
Please do everyone a favor and bail from this site or get the help you need. Seriously.

First time I had seen the Eagles play this year & boy were they good. Ferocious D line & excellent overall D. Hurts was poised & very, very good on O. Congrats to the birds. Well deserved.

National backlash? WTF?!

I didn't particularly like or dislike the show, but "national backlash" to a free show you didn't need to watch might be the most overdramatic thing ever posted on a board full of overdramatic posts.
Super Bowl halftime musical performances are a far cry from a free show people don’t need to watch.
If it’s a musical performance, can we expect talented musicians?

1. No, it's the definition of a free show you don't need to watch. If you have no interest, perfect time to make/eat dinner or snacks, walk the dog, take a shower, whatever.

2. Kendrick Lamar isn't my cup of tea, either, but he's considered an exceptionally talented writer and musician with a bookshelf of awards. Personally didn't think it translated well to the venue, but to say he lacks talent just because you don't like the music is silly.

I had a lot of interest, I’d heard his name before but never listened to his music…I was totally interested.
I think talent is a fairly recognizable thing at every level, I don’t like opera or ballet but I’m astounded at the talent level.
I’m astounded when I hear Aretha Franklin or Judy Holliday.
I appreciate dudes who build things from scratch….I appreciate talent.

He’s a gifted song writer?
What is his musical talent?
I do not have to like the music to appreciate talent!

Ok. I was in the same boat. I didn't much like it, either.

It's okay to not like something; nothing's for everyone. But there's really no need to pretend your opinion is an immutable fact.

Undeniably older people both black and white have far greater appreciation of real musical talent.
No hippies of the 60s and 70s would ever dispute the musical talents of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Louie Armstrong or Glen Miller.
No Grungers of the 1990s would ever dispute the talent of The Allman brothers, The Stones, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Michael Jackson and The Supremes….Real musical talent.

I grew up with Motown, The English Invasion, Southern Rock, Great Blues by Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Buddy Guy, Ray Charles….Elvis!

The music of today does not transcend, thusly there’s no music appreciation for yesterday’s performance imo.

Whitney Houston’s National Anthem would have made people cry in 1920 or 2025…. Talent

Great music is appreciated looking backward not forward…Jimi Hendrix would probably say he dug Johnny Cash or Taj Mahal, if he was listening last night he’d say, that ain’t music.
Great, great post!!

Stop trying to tell people what to do shortstack. It's a midget move.

I watched the game with two music execs. They thought it was trash. Because it is. I've seen Kendrick Lamar at least 5x. He's never good.

Nothing will change until Jay Z is fired. They will only use Roc Nation artists which by and large, suck. Especially for a show meant to have broad appeal.

Dua Lipa would be awesome.

I never thought I would see the day when a rapper needed autotune. Bad enough for singers, but rappers? Good grief. The music industry is complete garbage.

Sadly it is. Modern rap is garbage. Most everyone thinks so except those that don't know better, children, and grown men the size of children apparently.

Someone is extra-giddy to be chatting in a thread with other posters, seeing how he's used to being the only one responding to his own posts.

Still not getting anything right, though.

Sad!

The "old white heads" loved Prince, Michael, Stevie, Temptations, Smokey, Toni Braxton and other "dark heads."
Rap is to music what McDonald's is to nutrition.
I think Eminem sounds like Daffy Duck.
Its weird that a performer's big "song" is a slur filled mumble about Drake.
Fact is a 4K/ticket event had the worst game and halftime at once
Super Bowl culture took a big hit last night
Huge hit. Lamar never should have done it. He doesn't have the stage presence or broad appeal
big enough for the moment. One giant diss track ain't it.

When did we ever say we ‘Invented’ music and superstars?

Legitimately cite your sources here stoner?

What young person wouldn’t consider for example Thd Beatles and Elvis Presley music superstars?

Absurd statement by someone whining that he isn’t watching an act in their 70’s take the stage

Time to get with the times my guy, is The Weeknd a “Legacy” artist? How about Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, and Lady Gaga 10 years ago? Rihanna? You think these are “Legacy artists?”

My guy, you listed off a list of artists who flgsnuinely have not produced a hit in 40 years.

The Super Bowl isn’t geared to the over 60 crowd either bubba
Bac does enjoyable recaps that are good reads and everyone can have their taste in music but if you look at the songs he quotes in those recaps let’s just say it’s a far cry from Lamar…

You could throw Bon Jovi out there at 62 and every person in the entire stadium would be out of their seat singing to Livin on a prayer.

Then we’d be hearing where’s the diversity, why is the art form/cultural statement known as rap/hip hop omitted…

A really great Temptations/Four Tops cover band would have the entire stadium rocking 😊….real talent.
Get Stevie Wonder again!

My point is….EVERYONE would like it, EVERYONE is supposed to like it!

He got a Pulitzer some years ago but its kinda like Obama getting the Peace Prize - "just because."

I grew-up on R&B and vast majority of those performers learned their skills from church choirs, bands etc.
That's a reason why black music was so good back then - and they weren't dying young as much as the rockers.
But rap has disconnected the music form the church traditions and roots.

Jay-Z is trying to make Beyonce into a country singer for a new market/awards.

I wouldn't care about that (I dont even like Country) but they are trying to say country music is really black music and acting like they are taking it back. Of course there is a wide tradition of black music in country but a lot of it came from Scotland, Ireland and Mexico (that music being influenced by German music).

JayBey riding in and planting their flag on country is like some red neck trying to say football should be declared white because they invented game and ran it in college for a century. But The Z-man bullied Grammys last year so they got the country Grammy but even her fans on Reddit say its not a great song by her. Goodell pandering to JayBey is why the SB was bad so I dont blame Kendrick who might be a good guy. I like Lil Wayne but dont want to listen to him

I won’t criticize the musical content since it’s an individual personal preference. My one and only comment about the halftime show is that we’re supposed to be in an age of inclusion but to my eyes and ears, the show was more exclusionary.

I understand your overall point here, but what exactly suggests that we’re in “an age of inclusion” right now? We’re far from it.

And? It's an opinion ... did it magically expire?

Feel free to provide something more recent that proves whatever point it is you think you'd like to make.

I didn't watch the halftime show and haven't commented on it Was it a reprise of his 2015 music?
