OT: The official ACC all things thread

I don’t think anyone is looking to “checkmate” Notre Dame.
Why would any other remaining conference make ND join a conference? It would ultimately be the BIG.
They will ultimately join the BIG, they need to do it when they are ready.
My ND friends are telling me 3 years.
reducing the quality and strength of their schedule will checkmate them to a degree

writing on the wall, NFL lite here we come

I've been told by two very prominent people that they cannot see anyway the SEC allows the B1G to come in and grab FSU

Maybe it's geography bias as they live in the south surrounded by SEC schools, but they were adamant that they cannot see it happening
Not sure how the SEC could stop the BIG. If FSU want to join the BIG and the BIG wants them it's a done deal. It's not like the BIG would need the SEC's permission.

Ummmmmm..................

College football is even less of a draw up there than it is here in NJ.

Ummmmmm........and Kristian, they're not the "Golden Eagles".

One other thing: their stadium is a dump.
There's a diner in Pal Park called the Golden Eagle.

except that there will never be a shortage of high profile, high-ranked teams willing to schedule them. with expanded playoffs and the conference champion exemption for them, they will have more access than before, not less.

Historically the US produced a $10 coin often referred to as the golden eagle:

disagree as the leagues expand, the option for ooc games because less of an option and more of gaming the record. No reason for anyone in the BIG or SEC to schedule ND with our league schedule.

Problem for ND is they will have to beat them. ACC provided a big name cream puff schedule.

and that is the issue now given how FSU was treated
the committee has said, strength of schedule matters

If FSU and Clemson leave.
For certain UNC, Miami are out.

And likely 2 more.

SEC going to 9 games. B10 might go to 10 games. Big12 at 9 games.

Scheduling just gets rough for ND.
Over time the Power of the P2 will affect recruiting as well. Difference in $$$. It becomes a slow death over time.

If FSU wants BIG nothing the SEC can do if Carolina prefers SEC, all they have to do is offer.
Personally I have no idea. It would make sense to me for them to go to the BIG

I would assume that the grand rides at ESPN and because they are affiliated with them, the SEC could make it more difficult for any ACC school to join the Big Ten

Ultimately though, at least from an FSU perspective, the Big Ten is the preferred destination

From the link:

After all, they do have an incentive to see increases in a department’s revenue: They earn a percentage on any new annual growth. Over a 10- to 20-year period, that percentage decreases from, perhaps, 22% in the first few years to 2% by its end, as the firm meets its original principal investment. Weatherford describes this as taking a “revenue royalty.”

If there is no growth, the firm does not take a cut.

“They are not mandated to pay us back the money we give them,” Weatherford said.

These capital firms are built around investing wisely in revenue-generating entities. Why take a risk on the unstable situation in college sports if you aren’t guaranteed a profit?

“It’s basically like going and taking out a loan and repaying it over 15-20 years,” said another power conference athletic director. “Here’s the thing: How desperate are you? Because you’ve got to pay off that note.”

Initially I thought they’d be making $$ but based on Drew’s comments it could be a case of helping out his almamater

Yeah, article mentioned PE needs to generate new revenue to get a cut. Isn't that what AD's and the fundraisers at the schools do? I'm sure some also hire consultants to find new revenue streams but the PE cut seems pretty high. But then there's this from the article, which leads me to believe there's more to it than just a percentage of new revenue:

The grant of rights is controlled by the ACC, not by ESPN. ESPN just happens to have the current ACC TV contract, but it has no control of the grant of rights - the conference controls that. That’s why the future of the conference is more significant than who is the current broadcast partner.

New revenue can be a myriad of things

For FSU, its additional revenue from a new conference and suites / life boxes in refurbished stadium

Amy school that wishes to compete for championships needs to get out of a conference not named the B1G or SEC asap - Bc the thought of falling 50 million / year behind the schools you’re competing against is a non starter

The future of the league without its premier 3 programs and 4th if we count ND is DOA - hence why the league is trying to leverage every last dollar out of schools before things start crumbling down

Surprised to see no discussion regarding the published reports that ACC could be saved by eliminating teams - specifically Boston College, Syracuse and perhaps Pitt - who are seen not to carry their fair share.

Even then the payout wouldn't be close to the B10 or SEC.

FSU is completely out..... I think UNC, UVA and others that would like to keep the ACC feasible would want something like that.

But without FSU, that isn't an option.

That might have worked out initialy, and id even swap Pitt for Wake

If they could have added Notre Dame as a full fledged member, that would have been ideal

Yep I think that ship has sailed

Yes, Wake was mentioned too , I forgot to note that
FSU never wanted to leave the conference
If they did, they would have made noise long before it all started up

Unfortunately, the ACC didn't keep up their end of the bargain
So FSU, Clemson and any other school that has championship aspirations are left with no choice except to leave

Cliffs of the recent happenings below:

- FSU in negations w/Acc to settle sooner rather than later
- Likely to happen before 8/15
- Up to 300 mil is the new rumored price they'd be willing to pay (concerns about ESPN extending rights, multiple states lawsuits and judge in NC)
- No official offer from B1G or SEC until lawsuit settled
- B1G does not want Clemson (goes along w/95's info)
- UNC most likely going w/them, but their infighting re. conference preference and tied at hip w/NCS per state law isn't helping matters
- 5/23 realignment lawsuit settlement was precursor to anything happening, so it's good that's finished

FSU's preference is B1G, but growing speculation no way SEC lets them come in and take them, which I've heard from a few people previously

unc boosters moving more towards BIG now
dumbest move FSU could make would be to move to SEC as BIG opens much for them but I am confident FSU comes to us

They might not have a choice

If conferences are working together behind the scenes like it's been reported, and it makes too much financial sense to do a "trade" between the Big 2 (example being Big Ten gets UNC and ND, SEC gets Clemson and FSU), not saying those schools are leaning there just using it as an example, then FSU would essentially be forced to go to the SEC

I hope that's not true. Give me FSU and UNC and the SEC can take Clemson and whoever else they want. Let ND stay in the ACC.

they are not doing that

B1G not wanting Clemson is not surprising. That school is WAY too much of a culture shock to the B1G. Clemson belongs in the SEC. B1G will only take FSU, UNC, Miami, or UVA IMO from the ACC.
