OT UNC suspends 13 players, for selling sneakers

How is this suspension-worthy? Anyone at the school could sell their shoes to anyone else. Just like those fake classes.

Anybody who has ever been part of a collegiate athletic program knows that this happens all the time. We had guys on our HS team that sold team gear. Those UNC kids must be really stupid, they always get caught, no matter what the infraction.

yeah, like selling comped tickets--it's not like money laundering--wait, it may be

yeah, THIS is what UNC makes UNC take a stand, they sold the shoes that they owned? OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!

Forget the FAKE CLASSES, this is the real problem!

You can't make this stuff up!

No, you really can't make this up. There are some great quotes in the article.

The NCAA approved a request to stagger some of the suspensions.

When asked at the press conference how he would respond to critics who would suggest that the staggered suspensions were not fair, UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham said the school felt injury risks justified the decision.

“It was just a wrong mistake,” Carney, a senior, said at a press conference in Chapel Hill on Monday. “It was something that it just happened. I wasn’t thinking about it and I just made a wrong decision.”

What do you expect when the AD is named Bubba?

Is there a such thing as a "right" mistake??

UNC would have gladly have them all serve their suspensions when they play Western Carolina.

They were Air Jordans no less, a bit more irony in that one too.

And... according to reports, six players actually sold their gift sneakers to teammates, who then resold the sneaks to stores at a nice profit above what they had paid their teammates. Sweet, huh?

Bylway, the sneaks were Air Jordans, as in Michael Jordan, that famous UNC Geography scholar, who wore #23 for Dean Smith. You think there's any chance that MJ may have provided these pricey, custom sneaks to Larry "The Hat"'s boys at a nice discount? You think there's any chance this "sell-them-at-a-hefty-profit" was a deliberate scheme to get these "student-athletes" some extra pocket money?
the answer is right there in front of you:

UNC

The University of Non Compliance.

Defensive Pass Interference instead of a touchdown?

That wouldn't necessarily be a mistake, the intent was to "interfere" and prevent a TD, so the desired result is achieved. That would make it properly executed and not a mistake at all, no?

Yes its a big deal.. because once you permit this then you'l have some schools providing as many replacement shoes as "needed" for a proper income for their best athletes. How can they play or practice without their shoes? Oh.. lost them again.. here;s a new pair.. about about 3 pair.. or 5 pair.. you seem to go through these very quickly.

Apparently, selling school property is more of a "crime" than taking make believe courses in North Carolina. Who knew???
If they were selling make believe shoes it would make more sense.

Some more gems from the article I posted. This one is good for a few belly laughs:

“In a moment like that you’re not really thinking about consequences. Like as a kid, when your mom tells you don’t touch the iron (because) it’s hot. You just do it. It’s something that you don’t really think about in the moment.”

[roll]The quotes in this article are hilarious. Their players have the mental capacity of a 3 yr. old.

The second video (the Bubba video) is worth watching for additional entertainment. Ironically, the background logo for a security company is very prominently displayed, then the Libman logo appears (the company motto is "embrace life's mess). Libman is a company that makes cleanup products. Oh the irony!

This is exactly the same stuff that got Tressell fired at OSU. Those guys were trading game worn apparel and signed stuff for tattoos and selling stuff outright.

The sweater vest thought it would be smartest to just sweep it under the rug.
