OT - What is the longest you kept a car?

Jesus Christmas! Do you commute to Alaska?
LOL! It certainly seems that way. Actually, lots of travel between Boston and Washington for work when I lived in the Mid-Atlantic region. Lots of shuttling kids to sports practices and games, the 4x4 fishing and camping trips, and vactions on at Carova above the Outer Banks. My favorite vehicle was the 1996 Bronco with the 5.8L engine. Ran like a champ. Great for packing/hauling gear and a comfortable driver.

Looks like the rape van

1997 geo prism lsi-- got for 10k,- the color is apricot ice (fancy name for lite purple) sold to my parent at 99k , now my 18 year nephew has it at 150k. That baby purrs when you start it

I just had to junk my '99 Bonneville. Had 168k on her. Rottted brakes lines. It would have costed twice the car's value to fix. Currently own a '05 G6 with 100k on it. Plan to drive that until she drops.

Got my 2000 Dodge Neon at 81k miles in 2002. Still currently going strong at 255k miles.

Your head gasket go ? I had a '96 Plymouth Neon. Base car with manual trans. The only "luxury" it had was AC...HG went twice at about 60k intervals (60k and 120k). Of course, the warranty had already expired (3y/36m at the time). Curious to know if they ever addressed that defect.

2003 Honda Accord 180k miles that was just sold as a junker for $2200 with people bidding up the price of the wreck. Was starting to burn oil but ran great went back and forth to Colorado where it was for 3 years always started up even with the temp below zero for weeks on end

My father bought a 66 Chevy Impala on my 5th birthday in Sept 1965. I inherited it and took it to Rutgers with me in 1978, parked in on the streets of New Brunswick as freshman weren't allowed parking permits on main campus. It had over 200K when I gave it to my brother around 1984. Small block 283 V-8 was one of the best engines Chevy ever made.

I bought my first new car , a Toyota Celica, in 1987 - best car I ever had. It had over 265K when the insurance company totaled it after I hit my 3rd deer in 2001.

1984 Nissan Sentra Diesel. They only made them 1 year. Got over 50 mpg but was clocked at 0-60 mph in 2 minutes lol. Had it 13 years and 190k miles. Gave it to a nephew and 4 days after he started driving it he totalled it!!

I've driven every car I've had for a significant amount of time.......

1972 Chevelle (307 engine) - inherited from a relative in 1981 and drove it on and off for 5 more years - sold it to a friend for parts

1986 Mustang LX (5.0 L manual) - 6 years (80K miles) chose it because it was fast and relatively affordable at the time

1992 Mazda MX-6 GT (2.2 L Turbo manual) - 6 years (120K miles) admittedly not a very good choice in vehicle selection although I saw one on the road recently

1998 Honda Accord LX (2.3 L manual) - 11 years (220K miles) - commuting car - eventually got sick of it

2007 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab (4.7 L) - 8 years (140K miles) and counting - bought it originally for tailgating RU & Giants. Eventually used for business

2011 Toyota Corolla - recently inherited (32K miles) - not near the top of the list in my choice of vehicles to drive - but I have a 50 mile commute and the price & gas mileage fits the bill

My 1997 Ford Explorer was junked in 2009 with 386K on it. Tried for 400K but the transmission finally went and I threw in the towel. I did more than 120 oil changes on that truck.

I have an 09 Honda Civic Hybrid now with 208K on it. Although it still runs well I'm looking to dump it for something new.

At the risk of hijacking this thread, we bought our son a used Kia for his 18th birthday and he totaled it 27 days later.

We still have our 2000 Honda CRV, my son who is now 18 and starting college this Sept , shares it with my wife. Never garage kept , always in a drive outside. But not many miles on it...only about 50K. Body starting to show some wear, but the motor hums along pretty well.

I guess that makes this car 15 years old. Only 50, 000 miles, lol.

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra pick up truck. I bought it new and have 288,000 miles on it. I'm thinking of buying a new truck, but it runs great and it's great for tailgating. It's been nice not having a car payment for the past eight years.
Same here. Mine just went over 200,000 miles. Still runs great.

1994 Honda Accord, 215,000 miles before it finally was time to say good bye

1971 VW van. Owned it for over twenty years....technically still do because it's sitting in a field somewhere I believe.

My current car - 2002 Nissan Maxima, and now it's 13.5 years and 130K miles later. Bought it new and owned it outright after 2 years.
Still runs great (knock on wood, hope I didn't jinx it).

2000 Honda Civic EX still going at 220K+

Previous Cars:
1990 Toyota Camry LE V6 - 90K - Transmission and Cat Converter
1989 Honda Civic Si - 289K - Head gasket went
1983 Mazda RX7 GSL - 250K - Steering and rust issues

Bought a 1995 Mazda 626 (2.0 5 speed manual) from my buddy, an RU grad and also former member of the band, with 92,000. When I donated it to Kars for Kids it had 335,000, and still ran well, just blew some oil; it was time. My 2010 Sonata (2.4) has 144,000, runs fine. I take car of my cars.

I bought a '99 Toyota Solara in late '98 (shortly after the car was first introduced). I finally replaced it last June, with a little over 100K miles. (I worked from home for a bunch of years, which kept the mileage way down.) It still ran great but, after 15 years, I wanted an upgrade that included GPS, bluetooth, and the latest and greatest safety features (backup camera, side air bags, etc).

I currently drive a 2004 Toyota RAV4 with 260k miles on it. It has never had to go into the shop for any unscheduled service...yet! Interestingly prior to owning the Toyota I owned two jeep Cherokees. I bought both brand new. Somewhere between 30k - 60k miles all sorts of major and minor issues would crop up. My first jeep, after 40k miles the power window on the drivers side stopped working and it had a A/C coolant leak. The second jeep I owned there was a terrible rattle behind the dash board and the engine core failed. Even though it was still covered under warranty(luckily) it still somehow cost me close to $1000 to fix. Shortly after I got it repaired and bought the Toyota and have been very impressed with its reliability.

VW van...My favorite car of all time! When I was in college my roommate had a 71 VW VAN rusted out floorboards and other issues. We road tripped more in that van that the memories of that van are still strong. When I have enough money I want to buy a 68 van and restore it to like new condition.

Keep you car/truck maintained and they will run forever. I have taken 3 vehicles over the 250k mark. A Ford Bronco II well over 300k, a 1995 Ford F-150 to 260K and a 2004 Ford F-150 to 280k. I loved the 1995 truck and searched for a few years to find a low mileage, in good shape version. Finally I found my current vehicle a year ago with 88k. A 1995 Scarlet Red Ford F-150.
