OT: Who Killed NJ's "Pedals the Bear"?

Try vicks vapor rub on itchy rashes/bites. A little known tip. Not for poison ivy though.

Good one. My parents used to do that for mosquito bites. Seemed to work and I think I'll go back to something tried & true. Had a few insect bites this year that just haven't fully healed yet, and I'm usually pretty good about not scratching. Seems the insect bites just more virulent nowadays. One actually blew up into a blister the diameter of a nickel & 1/2 inch high. At least the Vicks won't contain steroids or other medications that discolor the skin.

I live in Ogdensburg nj.
I have 2 trail cameras one 150 yds from my house the other about 2 miles.
All in past month
Cam by my house:
300lb mama bear with 2 cubs weekly
150lb bear Once every couple a weeks
400lb bear once a week
1/2 a dozen Turkeys daily am & pm
Red Fox once or twice a week
4 does 3 bucks 2 fawns 4 x's a week

2 mile cam:
A herd of deer seen 3 to 4 x's a week
2 black bears seen once.
many Turkeys
Coyotes every day Lots of coyotes
and a couple of 2 legged creechers with sticky fingers who stole 2 of my trail cams.

The woods are alive and well with a healthy eco system, Managed correctly hopefully we will never again see only 100 black bears left.

Yeah...what could go wrong with a bunch of Yahoos playing Daniel Boone re-enacting sitting out in the woods, sipping on their JD, and waiting for some poor bear to come along so they can shoot it....from a safe distance of course. Yeah...it's hunting. These are probably the same hopeless lot that used their magnifying glass on ants when they were children. Heartless duds.
And to pretend that this "hunt" is some intelligent way to limit the bear population ? Dunderheads all.
Hunters play a huge role in conservation all over America and all over the world.
Though John Muir gets most of the credit, the Boone &Crockett club who purposely shy away from publicity have been behind most of the good things that happened in conservation for the past 100-115 years, look them up.
They made Teddy Roosevelt their first President and the rest is history

So don't want to read through the conservation conversations. But has it been confirmed he was killed or just some drunken boast?

A 333-lb. black bear matching Pedals description was tagged and was reported at a weigh/check station, apparently taken in the area frequented by Pedals. NJ wildlife officials haven't confirmed and may never be able to confirm that the bear was Pedals.

They should be able to confirm as he had an obvious physical deformation that forced him to walk on two legs

People share a lot of resposibility for bear encounters. Case in point, the vast majority of people in my neighborhood bring their garbage cans out the morning of pick up. There are a few a-holes who bring it out the evening before, including the lady across the street. Every other week the bears have a feast. Garbage all over the place including my lawn. Spoke to her a million times. She still does it. Her kids are grown so she doesn't care that this invites bears into a neighborhood with a lot of little kids. At least I get to enjoy watching her pick the garbage up off my lawn in her robe and slippers (no, she's not hot). I get a cup of coffee, stand on the porch, and shout out a sarcastic "good morning."
But here is the kicker. The town ordinance says you can bring it out the night before. So dopey for a town with one of the largest bear populations in the state.
Sounds like both of you are major idiots.

Wildlife officials confirmed the bear that was taken did have a physical defect consistent with the one apparently afflicting "Pedals" but could not (or would not) absolutely confirm that said bear was "Pedals." Plausible and acceptable. It's not like they had DNA to test. But yes, Le Morte d'Pedals.

Yup they were. Many of us have commented how there are birds and wildlife, primarily herons, foxes, skunks, and rabbits, that seemed to appear a lot more frequently after Sandy. I'm not talking about in town but at the beach. I also see a lot more deer between Rts 35 and 71 when I'm going home from work late at night. Sea Girt Ave and by the circle on 35 especially.
We are seeing fewer deer. There is some sort of deer disease going around.
