Pertinent David Cutcliff quotes on building a program

Exhibit A of what he talks about would be how some of this board reacted to Year 1. Heck...week 1.

“It takes time. It takes patience. The two things no one has these days.”

The internet has killed people's perspective of time and patience for things to develop.

No, these quotes are not pertinent to us. We are Rutgers and my God we have low expectations and we certainly have patience. Save for a scandal, Ash will get time to rebuild from getting smashed this season.
Good article and cutliffe is right though.

I disagree. I think there are plenty of people who think things are either better or worse that are actually the same as they always were. I'm in my mid-50's and remember my parents saying things like, "Rome wasn't built in a day". The only thing the internet has done was given these people a medium to blast their ignorance to thousands of people instead of dozens of people.

Twain 2.0?

Not bad.

“Here’s the bottom line: At the end of your career, what [you’re] held accountable for is how you’ve mentored young people and if you did it the right way.”

If that was really true in his business you'd have a lot a guys with much longer careers.

Yes you're exactly right. I didn't really give a crap the problems flood caused off the field. It was that he was a loser coach on gameday that was the reason most Rutgers fans wanted him gone.

Another example of a low P5 program hiring a guy who had been a head coach previously, and with a background on offense...and becoming a competitive program,

How many current, successful P5 coaches without either of the above qualifications are there ?

How many successful P5 coaches weren't Head coaches prior or OC's? a lot

ok, go: hired to their P5 current job not already having been a HC elsewhere...and also having a background on D. Am not saying OC...just with Offense background.

The only one who comes to mind is Pat Fitzgerald, but I wouldn't call Northwestern a competitive program most years, and he was hired in a special circumstance

Did a coach ever cheat by suiting up a couple of ringers? For example, if Ray Rice suited up in a #32 uniform and everyone just figured Goodwin was having a fantastic day?

it'd have to be Rice in place of Hicks or Sneed. Goodwin is taller and leaner.

Dabo Swinney was not a coordinator. He was TE/WR Coach.
Is Pat Narduzzi good enough for you?
How About Bob Stoops?
Kirk Ferentz?
Bret Bielema?

Are these enough, smart guy?

"Ash has really transformed his players. Hicks is bulked up and looks just like Ray Rice".
I am kidding around of course, the cameras always follow the player back to the sideline and get detailed images of them.

Knight...Swinney was an O guy, and both Ferentz and Bielema had been head coaches. Ferentz was also an O guy. You missed the point by a mile.

Yes, Narduzzi a first time HC without an O background. Stoops too. I doubt there are even 10 in the P5...which is telling.

21 of the current Top 25 team coaches have offense backgrounds...

I did.

And it was the losing that did do him in. But the "loser" perception part you mentioned made it easier.

As I said in another thread today when you when win (by your play too and not just on the scoreboard) you get things....time, money, more room, etc.

I don't really focus on whether offensive or defensive backgrounds but current first time defensive head coaches currently in the cfp top 25 are: Bob Stoops, Clay Helton, Pat Narduzzi, Kyle Whittingham.

Bielema & Strong were DCs who did well at their previous schools where they became first time HCs. Gary Patterson is another. DJ Durkin/Kirby Smart/Derek Mason/Mark Stoops/Barry Odom/ Chris Ash are other current ones still early in their tenures.

I didn't. I understand that college football is dirty. I want Rutgers to win and make us proud so I am ok with a coach cutting some - not all- corners for the sake of winning. Would rather some easy classes or shady recturing deals then getting beat 78-0

I think we all know people who like sausage. But I doubt we know any who like to watch it being made. ;)

With 128 FBS programs, these are the few exceptions.

I was going to post this link. Read it.

Everyone who wants a clean program - remember you are handicapping your FB program. Everyone who wants to win - be prepared for police reports. We are not one of the programs that can win clean quickly. You will learn a lot about coach Ash and staff over the next three years. Clean, cutting corners, or very very lucky or or maybe very very good?

What Narduzzi did in coming in was hire OC's (including staff) with lots of P5 coaching experience.

Works for us so far.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Its sad to say,but today in college sports cheating has a low risk in the risk reward world.
Look at UNC,Syracuse(BB) Auburn, and others, openly cheated and the NCAA takes years and years to do anything..or nothing, meanwhile the programs continue to win,get a slap on wrist... why not work in gray area.?

This sounds like every coach in the business. Easy to say but hard to do.
