Pony up or Shut Up

I have no idea what people in the RAC can do or not do. But I look in the RAC parking lot, and it’s not like everyone is driving Fords, Dodges, and Chevy’s. There are some impressive automobiles out there. So when people cry poor, I’m calling BS.
IMO, we have the means to support a winner. We lack the desire.

Season tickets are already expensive. Wouldn’t it make sense to kick in an extra $1000 to ensure we have something worth watching?
I fully expect the athletic department to find the right point and charge an extra $500-$1000 per 100 season ticket seat to help pay for the $20,000,000 we need to come up with to pay players in the athletic department.

As far as asking people to donate their money to players......there are countless charities that are underfunded and need help. Shaming people to donate to the players is wrong.

Let the athletic department try to thread the needle and find the right price point. Probably works next year....don't know about the nexct.

There are greater needs for and uses of my money than paying college athletes.
How much time do you spend on this messageboard? You’ve posted 1,132 times since you joined. Supporting NIL, is an investment in Rutgers basketball, and will ensure your time is spent more productively and that we have meaningful things to discuss. Right now, we’re all wasting our time because the team doesn’t have the resources to succeed. I hope that changes.

But we need to make it happen. The Easter Bunny sure isn’t going to step up for us.

I’m just saying….people need to stop complaining about NIL and how it’s changed college basketball when our guy Geo was a huge voice in the movement toward NIL.

The Supreme Court ruled on it. Geo isn’t one of the 9 justices. The NCAA has been impotent since. Need to get back to regulating transfers. If I switch jobs for more money, I’m still bound by a noncompete. Should be the same for players.

For now, only donors can pay players, via NIL, not the school. That might change, but it hasn’t happened yet.

So true we have people that live on this board and spend multiple hours a day everyday here and they are the biggest bashers and non participants when it comes to helping the team with anything but an opinion. Look at BAC after every game he spends hours of his life writing a 10 paragraph on the game and he has never donated ask him he will tell you. The game threads he is one of the biggest basher of the team and players. He would rather die than donate a dime. He should be the first to donate because all of his friends are from this board. That’s not bashing that’s the truth and others are the same way.

Just curious, but what specifically do they like? I know he picked the program up off the mat that was down in the basement, but he is currently shoving us back down the stairs of the basement as we speak with an incredibly disappointing season with two generational talents. What do they currently like about Pike and the current trajectory of the program? Is it they just like him on a personal level? He’s a great guy, no debating that. But what do they like about him currently coming off this season and the previous two as a coach of a Big 10 program?
Read what you said and you have your answer. No one's saying they'd like him forever.,If you logically look at what he's done , sold out arenas, star recruits, some big wins, good academics,I can go on., and on, besides him being a tremendous advocate for the university . Again tht goodwill will last a bit but not forever.

He is not remotely as close to what Myles and Cliff were offensively as centers. Lathan has a tool box that the others didn't have. Lathan has every tool except a hammer. Myles and Cliff had hammers and could finish.

Lathan is stuck on 3 dunks. Cliff had 51 last year.
Somerville is better
All Cliff had is the dunk
Yes, he had bunch of dunks, but he was horrible offensively otherwise
He had no shot aside from the dunk
There is no comparison
And Somerville will be a force offensively as he gets more experience, Cliff had nothing and now rides the bench
There is a reason that Cliff rides the pines

Without resources, we are just not going to be able to win. The game has changed. When our peers are landing quality transfers and we’re scraping the bargain bin, it puts us at a competitive disadvantage, and our seasons likely won’t end well.

Which Is one more than we won the previous 30 years. Context matters.
After what we've witnessed this season, nobody in their right mind is all of a sudden going to start forking over even more NIL for this coaching staff to waste.

Go read the thread Zebnatto just started if you don't get why everyone is so down on Pike. Do you even watch the games??

Not that much time. I open probably only 10% of the threads. 1,132 posts over 4 years isn’t much. I’m plenty productive with my time.

We don’t have a Big Ten roster. Why do you ignore that fact? Do you watch the games?

Actually people like you who make excuses for a coach who's accomplished nothing are the problem.

I can't think of more wasteful use of spending money then giving it to this program while Pikiell is still coach. If you have money you want to give Rutgers give it to Schiano.
Where is he making " excuses" for Pike?? Bashing a coach is particularly bad after a loss around here, after a win, hardly not at all unless you're just the pseudo expert that always bitch.
Who knows what will eventually happen with Pike but it won't be for awhile. One things for sure firing coaches usually is not the answer but donating $ certainly will make a difference to a current or a future coach. Making excuses why not to give is bullshyt.

I donate to get my basketball seats, football seats, and football parking
It adds up to quite a bit, and I stop with that, not any more

You should be able to be a fan, a rabid fan, and not involve money into it, if you prefer
Bac has every right to be that fan, and not donate

We didn't ask for this new world of NIL and we don't have to sign up for it

He does have every right but both of you understand how recruiting works. None of us signed up for NIL but it’s here and it’s how rosters are made. So you know how it works but refuse to play to pay. Stop complaining and bashing players when you know how things works in 2015 college sports.

Cliff may not be lighting it up on the scoreboard but he plays a key role for the #2 ranked Alabama. As he has from the begionning of the season, he starts at center and consistenly plays about 20 minutes per game. He is the team's second leading rebounder and shot blocker, and is usually on the floor at key moments at the end of the game. He is playing the exact role Alabama had in mind for him when they signed him, as he compliments the rest of the team perfectly. He is far from riding the pine.

I don’t complain much because I understand that we are at a disadvantage
I no longer have the same admiration for a player coming in
It used to be they fall in love with a school and gave you their all for 4 years

Now, we rent them year to year
Why should I support renting a player who comes because of money?

Besides one haa to admit our peers out contribute us especially ones who are always successful . Contributing more with your mouth and bashing our teams will never make us better or more competitive. Many have said and it's true we eat our own -- how stupid is that. Gets us nowhere.

I thought his playing time was less
We do miss the defense, that is easy to admit

I still think defense can be worked on and learned, if Somerville stays
He is big enough, 6ft10 says his bio

Then don’t but we won’t win because that’s how ALL college programs are getting players It’s not just a Rutgers issue it’s an everyone issue. We play the big boys every week who have fanbases who donate. We have excuses but love Rutgers enough to come to places like this and some are on multiple Rutgers boards but stand on the sidelines where it counts.

It became a dirty business
I would have hoped that there would be an adjustment to the transfer rules to limit the chaos, but I guess not

As I mentioned, there are built in donations
I do pay
$4,500 for three parking passes in the football green lot, split amongst the group I
Organize

I accept that, and that is enough
I would rather pay less if I could

The same reason they like Schiano: familiar access to mediocrity.

The key there is ROI.... NIL isn't about investors or ROI, it's about emotion and donation.
I think we agree. Your ROI can be the emotional return. If someone is happy giving money and seeing the results from it as we have seen and it sings to them, then they can have at it -- pony up as they see fit. For others of us, that ROI is not of interest.

Pikiell needs a Fieldhouse!

Pony up or shutup people.
Screams Ree GIF

Key words: Rebounder. Shot Blocker. Johnson and Cliff could play stifling defense.

Nah, the tickets and merch are the only $ the Yankees ask for. College you buy the tickets and the merch and THEN they want you to pay the players.

What do you mean only $ Yankees are asking for.

When’s the last time you bought Yankee Season Tickets? Fans most certainly are paying a portion of the players salary with their Yankees season tickets, which are very expensive. The difference here is that donors pay the players salary through NIL Collective.

How many did Cliff have his freshman year

Next month starts Free Agency, or the transfer portal, or whatever you want to call it, and Pike needs all the resources he can get. We need impact players, not schlubs who take up space. Impact players cost 💲, which we don’t have enough of. Maryland fans ponied up and the majority of their scoring is from transfers.

Maryland Transfers Point totals From Rutgers Game
Rodney Rice- transfer from VT - 19 pts
Selton Miguel - transfer from South Florida - 17 pts
Ja’ Kobi Gillespie - transfer from Belmont - 14 pts

Our transfers are not contributing enough because we chose from the bargain bin. They are too inconsistent. The performance on Court is a reflection of our support or lack thereof and We are reaping what we sowed.

I knew we were F’d as soon as we lost Cliff. Only to watch him languish on the bench. This year, we must hold on to Somerville, and add the appropriate complementary players. Get the right players and we can get back to the tournament next year.
you are delusional as always. The schtik is old!

I'll be shutting up and riding the coat tails of an established, successful school like OSU. Being a poor Rutgers fan is miserable. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, barring a miracle gift from a whale.
Just give us hope n a sport.Any sport.

Agree with both of you!

Is the emotion worth the donation?
Do we believe Pike is that guy if given the money to change that emotion?

No.
Why throw good money at bad situations? It’s like a falling knife stock

You have no idea what people donate on here so STFU!! I donate a scholarship to women’s soccer and that’s on top of my required donations for football and basketball. That was the highest area of need for RU and where I put my money to help. It helps overall and I’ve never been to a soccer game of any type at RU.
People should stop telling people how they should be spending THEIR money!!
People have lives and more important responsibilities than paying players to play a sport. The point about Pro sports is that their salaries are funded through revenue. Yes they get paid for their brands on top of that but it’s not a pay for play model which is what is being suggested here and happening across college.

I will pay $10k to never see a RutgersAl post telling people we need a field house and fundraising efforts appreciate the passion in being a fan but it’s a bad look when the next message is how we are going to the playoffs and winning a NC.
