It's obvious the staff needs to look into JUCO or 5th year tansfers this off season. Here is one that caught my eye:

DeVante Kincade, Grambling State, QB, R-Jr., 6-1, 190, Dallas

Transfer from Ole Miss has excelled in replacing Jonathan Williams, the 2015 SWAC Offensive Player of the Year. He's a gritty leader who brings confidence to the Grambling offense. … Stays in the pocket to find his receivers, but is capable of using his legs for gaining yards. … Has thrown for 23 touchdowns and only one interception. … Took apart defending SWAC champion Alcorn State by passing for 400 yards and five touchdowns and rushing for another 58 yards and a score in a Tigers win on Sept. 24. … Was a member of Ole Miss' 2015 Sugar Bowl-winning squad.

Former elite 11 that Dilfer called the complete package.

With a decent o line and some WRs who catch I think Gio is a fine QB (especially when he is healthy).

I agree, but be prepared for the dissent!

I will not dissent. Between Gio, Tylin, and Lewis I think we will be adequate at QB IF, and I mean IF, we get a good o-line. So if we are to get quality grad transfers to act in place while younger recruits like Micah Clark grow into the job then those transfers should be good experienced linemen.

Dissenting opinion on a fan message board? Get outta here.
Ehh. It's really difficult to judge Gio or Tylin this year considering how quickly our QBs have been under pressure. What I was referring to is the tendency to just pile on and say our QBs are no good because they have not done anything. Drew Brees or Russell Wilson would look bad behind our OL.

Wait, you said it's all coaching. Now the OL sucks?

Bring on more comp at every position all the time.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be looking for all types of JUCO/5th year guys but this thread is about QB's. Its great to say they might pan and they may but all we know now is Gio is hurt and Oden can't throw. Personally, I'd be much more comfortable bringing in another body.

Don't follow the recruiting thing much at all but completely agree with the philosophy bringing in qbs who might be capable. I've said this offense increases the probability of attrition at the qb position. We've seen it at other schools, frankly we've seen it here with Gio himself. Look how many point to his loss of mobility for our drop off.

So then why wouldn't we want more bodies at the position, hopefully ones that are capable though to some degree, not like Zach Allen. But that's something I can't speak to until I actually see them play here and have no clue of how to project those kind of things anyway.

QB transfers have worked out so well recently I can see why you are chomping at the bit researching a guy that you don't even know if he qualifies as a grad transfer.

And why would he transfer? Grambling State is probably a better team right now than RU. Do you think he improves his NFL chances under DM???????

We have usable QBs already:
Lewis - incoming freshman in 2017
Oden - Sophmore in 2017
Dare - Sophmore in 2017
Rescigno - Jr in 2017
laviano - Sr in 2017
Allen - Sr in 2017
Rettig - Sr in 2017

for 2017 I can see Rescigno and Allen competing for the QB spot with Oden Dare possibly in the mix. If Lewis is the real deal he may get a shot too. Allen was a mobil QB at TCU so may be able to step in. If Rettig has a chance to go to an FCS school and start I can see him leaving us. Based on the depth chart in the spring we may lose another QB too if one of the guys becomes 4th in line.

Current Depth chart:
1. Rescigno
2. Laviano
3. Allen
4. Oden / Dare / Rettig

The key would be good blocking so the QB has a chance to make plays. As mentioned above, a 5th year grad senior starting lineman can help.

As usual, Cali can't understand nuances, and always wants to assign blame and say someone or something sucks. It's not that black and white. I said "how quickly our QBs have been under pressure" and "Drew Brees or Russell Wilson would look bad behind our OL". Nowhere did I say the OL sucks. As was pointed out by someone who has football knowledge and no axe to grind (@gef21 ), the change from pro set to power spread has responsible for the OL play being what it is. And nowhere did I say it was "all coaching." You seem like an angry old guy who likes to pick fights on this board. Read a little more closely. Just in case you are confused--my position on the bad results has been two fold--depth issues in key areas and the change of the offensive scheme without the players to run that scheme. So, it is a mix of both. Got it? Not really looking to get into a running fight, but if that's what you want, I'll just put you on ignore.

Allen is worst than Laviono. Gio looked good for a game and a half but looked horrendous besides that. I would like a transfer or hoping that Lewis is the real deal. Oden is a decent runner but he literally can't pass at all. He looks like a WR running gadget plays. I know he's young but Odin can't even throw a screen pass. Also he's a stick man. Odin looks like a Point Guard.

That's 7 scholarship QBs on the roster next year. Can you really afford to use ANOTHER scholie on a QB?

Just pointing out your hypocrisy. You have been railing against the coaching until you mea culpa post on the board currently. Glad you finally see the light. Old? Feel free to ignore, I won't be bothered by it.

Yes, because it didn't work in the past we should stop trying. Maybe stop going after 4 stars as well?
I'm not chomping at the bit I'm looking at potential transfers. Would you like me to stop? I mean I could start 5 more threads about our coaches sucking. That's always fun.

Dare, Laviano, and Rettig will all be gone.

There will be transfers in the offseason or one or two will give up football all together.

If Rettig and Dare have little to no shot at seeing the field, why wouldn't they transfer to get an opportunity to play elsewhere?

Yes, it's a pointless exercise. If you don't want to discuss the coaching situation, concentrate on recruiting. Next year is going to be a disaster around here anyway.

Rettig will transfer out west to a WAC school
Dare needs to find a team that still runs a Pro Set. Maybe Temple?
Laviano will be interesting if he transfers or just stops playing.

yes bringing in better players is pointless. What's pointless is discussing the coaches because they aren't getting fired. Once can actually occur and the other won't. Lets talk about the one that won't

The "pointless" in the discussion is the - HE'S NOT COMING HERE.

ok. great then don't respond. You can also ignore the recent trend of 5th year 1AA QB's transferring up. like I said, most of our fans don't really follow football.

Once again - play for Grambling State and compete for a national title, or come to RU and go winless in conference play.

Oh, that's right - coming to RU is going to improve his draft stock, right????

JC, get your head out of your ass...

lol. Like I said doesn't even follow football. SWAC doesn't even go to the 1AA playoffs after they agreed with the MEAC to have their own big game starting in 2015.

we do not need merely 'adequate' players at QB--we need IMPACT. QB is far and away the most important position on the field, arguably the most important position in all of sports.

We need a QB that makes the opposing DC worry--we NEVER have had that!

I like where your head is at, but I can almost guarantee you a kid from ASA will never get through the RU admissions office. He would be a great "get", but it would never happen.
Not sure about that I think they made some changes. We had that kid from last year for like 9.5 minutes committed to us. I think the bigger issues is the ASA coaches.

This power spread requires a very fast athlete back there. Proper QB fundamentals are not really a necessity. Just find a tough fast kid who could memorize a dozen or so plays and throw the ball on the run.

Which is why I like the idea of grabbing a 1AA transfer who has proven he can do it already. If it's an option for Oregon, Bama, and Auburn should be for us as well

I think the following things

1.) We will have four scholarship QB for the fall camp report
Allen-Sr
Gio-Jr
Oden-So
Lewis-Rfr

2.) Think that Dare, Laviano and Rettig transfer

3.) I would really like a 5th yr QB for 2017..but we really need two OL that are ready to start (JUCO or 5th year guys)....our oline is a big problem...maybe the biggest problem now that recruiting is fixing the QB, TE, and WR spot

We are on the way at oline...but it will take three years to grow up the class of 2017....so we need some stop gaps badly

You're right - I don't follow the SWAC and MEAC decisions very closely.

Despite how closely you follow RU, I've got a better handle on it than you. From your constant pumping of the Flood regime to your disdain for the guy who actually put RU football on the map to this current exercise in futility - the most delusional RU poster this side of Rutgersal. At least Al knows he's a caricature...

I like your thinking. It's ironic that a JUCO transfer into Ole Miss made this guy a possible JUCO transfer. It sounds like he's had an on-and-off ankle injury for a few years?

again proving you know crap
I have no disdain for Schiano. I see him for what he was....an excellent program builder how made us respectable but couldn't take the next step. A guy who despite people like you want to believe still lost big games to teams like UCONN in year 11.
As for Flood, I didn't pump him up..I simply repeated what I was being told by players and HS coaches. What was my big concern with firing him? We would end up hiring a first time HC that would have to learn on the job and we wouldn't be guaranteed any better results? hmmmmmmmm
So keep talking about crap you have no idea about...you are on a roll today.

Not sure about the injury in the past but this year he is killing it. Another guy I liked a lot just tore his ACL so he is done.
