Princeton Had 19 Offensive Rebounds

Ogbole, Sommerville, Martini not putting in the work/effort. Everyone else other than Derkack standing around watching.
This! I would not necessarily include Ogbole but Martini and Somerville show no effort to go after rebounds and loose balls. I know JMike gets a lot of grief on this forum, but at least the effort is there. Same with Jordan. They should rip the C off Martini’s uniform

How does Rutgers allow 19 offensive rebounds and get outrebounded by Princeton, 43-36?
And Princeton had 23 second chance points.
C'mon guys, hit the boards!
That is the difference in the game to go along with the inability to stay in front of our man and no rim protector. Henderson pulled out the NBA playbook and found a mismatch and exploited it. Lee getting the switch to martini 4 times and Pierce exploiting Derdack. Really thought JMike did a terrible job not fighting through those screens. But Pike not trying a different defense was a bad job by him.
We had 45 points from the supporting cast which should have been enough to win. ACE had an off day despite the 2 late shots.
Hard losing these close games.

Once again, Martini has been terrible. However, this guy started on Princeton’s team last year and that team was better than this year’s. Structure and a system made him valuable. Now he’s in a free-for-all, with the lack of structure, and he hardly plays while losing vs. a weaker version of his old team. Yet. Somehow, he was named captain. Can’t make this stuff up.

I know that’s right…. The offensive plays, movement, cuts, execution for every team is better than ours. Teams constantly free for easy buckets and dunks against us. Always. PIP point differential must be thru the roof

Hard to rebound when you get outmuscled and pushed under the basket on many plays and are surrounded by black jerseys.

youre assuming that they care enough
You are correct. Harper and Ace are playing for draft position so we’re fine there. Have to keep everyone else engaged. At least there are enough mediocre players that competition for play time should keep most of them interested. However, you never know when someone will Mag on the team.

They don’t box out. They dont stay in front of their man. They get outhustled. It’s a lot of things. But bottom line is the team is too soft too slow and too young.

Thats what we wondered on the way home today. Most of these guys are getting paid 6 figures and will be gone in 12-14 weeks.

What do they really care if they win or do anything here.
I think another downside of NIL world. Dollar signs in their heads when making plays. That being said, I don’t question Dylan and Ac3e. They are working hard.

This is a factor for sure. We have a mish mosh of a lineup who have barely played with each other. Our stars are true freshman who will be gone in 3 months (Dylan is a baller and you can tell he cares and gives it his all).

Major red flag for me was during and right after the Kennesaw loss.

I started a thread saying how I didn’t like how a couple players (Williams and Ace) were laughing multiple times in the last few minutes…and then also laughing after buzzer as well. Do you think Geo, Caleb or Ron would be caught laughing after a loss like that?

I was honest and said I was only able to watch the last 5 mins but what I saw just rubbed me the wrong way against a team like Kennesaw (especially from Williams)….wasn’t something I wanted to see from our Captain. I got pretty much blasted for the thread I created lol.

This team lacks talent for sure and our coaching deserves criticism but we also lack more than talent right now.

It’s deeper. We don’t have the mental toughness or desire across the lineup to do anything needed to win right now.

Not sure if anyone mentioned but coming into this game princeton was one of the worst teams in america on the offensive glass. Well into the 300’s

It’s because our bigs are all out of position either running around on the perimeter or trying to chase blocks instead of staying home and boxing out and rebounding, though Caden Pierce did show us the 2nd year in a row that he is far tougher than anyone on our team.

This team just doesn’t have that fire to win. For some reason they are always a step behind or a second late. They haven’t gelled and it doesn’t appear that they will. It’s very perplexing. They still have opportunities but they have made it very difficult for themselves. Pike is a very good coach but he hasn’t found the right buttons this year. It’s got to be on him at this point.

Stop with the very good coach narrative.

Haven't the excuses the for the under-achievement last few years centered around team chemistry and pushing the right buttons. Who owns that?
I'm so tired of seeing him stand on the sidelines defense position arms raised. Just once I'd love to see him show a little internal team "pissed off" mode and light a damn fire vs. trying to push some damn buttons. IMO he needs to slam his fist down on a button.

Continuing the 9 year trend he's now 1-4 neutral/away games (with 90% Rutgers folks at that neutral game yesterday) and remains under 500 winning % vs. any decent team. He's an average coach getting paid a ton of money.

There are a lot of good coaches that don’t win. This profession is way harder than some of you are suggesting. Finding an another coach to produce like Pike would very difficult. Just look at RU’s history and many of the other teams in the big ten.
