This:

"Yeah right, like sports fans in New York care about Rutgers.

"The league should have added Pitt and Syracuse instead."
"Has it worked out financially as well as the Big Ten would have liked? We can't know for sure, because we don't see all the financials. But I can surmise that Syracuse would have brought more of a New York TV market than Rutgers."

Stopped reading right there. Had to change my pants was laughing so hard.

lmao-crying-laughing.gif

EDIT- I kept reading. It actually got worse, but laughed even harder.

I am amazed sometimes when I read stuff like this

he gets PAID for that?!

some moron on a message board writes the same thing he gets mocked or ignored

the idiot writes the same utterly baseless and ignorant opinion….and gets PAID to do so?

just amazes me.

if you get PAID to put your opinion out there shouldn’t it be based on SOMETHING?

if there was ANY data to support his opinion you know he would have cited it. But he doesn’t

So he surmises” (NOTHING to back it up) that cuse would have brought in more?

The definition of “surmise” - “suppose that something is true without having evidence to confirm it.”

so in other words - he fully admits - I got nothing to support this so I am just totally pulling this out of my ass.

his “article” read like a poorly written post in message board. Yet he gets PAID for that?

and he clearly admits that he is just a Rutgers hater so is obvious how/ why he “surmised” what he did

And he gets PAID for that?!?

I think it's really progressive that that news outlet employs people with profound intellectual disabilities to write stories about "things that make (them) angry".

Know what makes me angry? Child rape and the protection afforded to it by a cult of brainwashed a**holes who normal people either laugh at or spit on the ground in disgust after they walk away from some rambling f**knut conversation about how Cultsville is somehow the center of the universe. That sh*t makes me angry.

"And I don't give a damn about TV markets or extending the league's footprint or anything else."
That's a lot of stupid right there. What world does he live in that money doesn't matter?

he “doesn’t give a damn” about the VERY reasons the Big10 brought RU in?!?!

seriously, this is absurd.

I am going to offer an equivalent argument:

I hate Bill Gates. People say he is phenomenally wealthy but I don’t like him. I “don’t give a damn” that all indications are that he is worth billions and that he is one of the wealthiest people on the planet. So, since we are not privy to every last detail of his financials and since I hate bill gates, I am going to SURMISE that Bill Gates is, in fact, penniless.

pretty much point-by-point that is his piece on rutgers. It’s the equivalent of a really bad message board post…but he gets PAID for that ?!!

Ooh, Penn State brought the Pittsburgh TV market. Even if RU only brings 25% of the NY market, it's probably dwarfs the vaunted Pittsburgh TV market. Lol.
You are right about that. A sliver of the NYC market is vast.

NYC is number 1 of course.
Philly is 4
Pitt is 24

But what these yokels never get is just how much bigger NYC is than the rest.
NYC 7,452,620 over 6% of the US TV market by itself.
Philly is 2,997,360
Pitt 1,166,130

NYC is 2 million larger than the next closest - LA

Btw -
Wilkes Barre, Scranton 571,470
Harrisburg 772,810

These blunderheads can't comprehend that a significant portion of both the NYC and Philly TV markets are actually NJ.

And they don't get the relative income levels of the markets. All TV viewers are not equal in the eyes of advertisers.

He also misses the vast number of Big 10 alumni living in the NY & DC metro areas.

How about the BIG keeping PSU after the Sandusky scandal?
This was not an isolated incident that the administration knew nothing about. It was a systematic attempt at not just covering it up, but an extended period of time that allowed the dirtbag to continue his ways!
If the league had any guts, they should have sent the entire school to the curb.

This is how the article started and where I stopped reading. Guy is a Sara fan....all you need to know,

"But, Rutgers will add the New York TV market. That's what we heard. That was the reasoning. Competitiveness and common sense be damned.

Gotta chase the almighty dollar. Or in this case, the almighty TV viewer.

Yeah right, like sports fans in New York care about Rutgers.

The Big Ten's decision still feels wrong nine years later. It still angers me, not only as a lifelong Syracuse basketball fan....."

NYC hasn't cared about college football since Vince Lombardi was one of the Seven Blocks of Granite at Fordham. NYC didn't care about college football when Syracuse was actually good. They cared when Rutgers was good, though. Does the writer honestly believe that Syracuse would have been more competitive in the B1G than RU has been?

The funny thing is not only do we bring in some of NYC, but also a chunk of Philly. I also lived in Wilkes Barre area, and while they think it’s big there, the city of Wilkes Barre has less people than my hometown suburb in Jersey.

Know why PSU fills their stadium for games—- b/c all those rubes in Pennsyltucky don’t have TVs. What did THEY bring to B1G

Weren't the largest protests about Pitt joining the Big 10 coming from Penn St.? This piece of bovine excrement wants it both ways.
It was Penn State and JoePA's assertion that an all-sports eastern conference should have Penn State getting more home games and more conference revenue that prevented it from happening. And it was Penn State writers and Penn State officials who ignored child rape for a decade.

I don't say this often but they should STFU.

fantastic Kratch quotes.

The Big Ten paid a Chicago consulting company.. and apparently a good one.. to analyze who should be added and they came up with Rutgers (I think after Texas and Notre Dame, who would not join) and Rutgers was then at the top of the list as they sought to figure out who should join Rutgers. Maryland was a great choice as it gave every Big Ten school a chance to invite home-state DC politicos to games at Maryland as well as adding some basketball history and taking something from the ACC.

That decision was an obvious home run.

I wonder where that writer was educated.

You should look up what the guy who owns the site, Dejan Kovacevic, has been accused of in the past. Even less reason to give the site hits.

He should have started with that sentence so no one would waste time reading it

Of course he's wrong, and many of our sports are doing great, but you can't be shocked by people saying this because -

- one win vs PSU fb in living memory

- we have never won a national championship in anything but fencing (in 1949)

- We have never played in a prestigious bowl game vs a ranked opponent

- We have never won outright a conference fb championship despite being in weak leagues

- until recently, very sub-Big 10 facilities for almost all sports and despite massive improvements in the last 5 years, we have a long way to go for facilities for track, tennis, baseball and softball and more.

- our W-L record in Big Ten fb is awful

- we are the only FB team other than Kansas to have not defeated a ranked team since 2009

- until 2019 our Mens' basketball program was been horrendous since 1976 with the exception of a few years here and there

So do I think we belong in the Big 10 - of course we do, but it is not illogical for some folks to think otherwise and believe Syracuse and Pitt deserved it more since each of them has had exponentially more success than us in the major sports historically.

He thinks Rutgers embarrassed the B1G with Mike Rice throwing basketballs and Flood asking a professor for assistance with a grade but he is fine with his beloved:
  1. Penn State covering up child rape
  2. Syracuse coach Boeheim mowing down and killing a guy drunk

time to go back to sickoflosing for you

example: what "weak" conference were we in? for how long?

in any case... all that history was taken into account when we were asked to join.. and it was the right decision... none of that stuff mattered in the end and it shouldn't matter now
