Thank you for doing this
With a team that is supposed to run the floor and have more quickness, we should have opportunities for easy dishes to Cliff for dunks/lobs/layups, but we don’t see it at all. I think the improved speed, pace of play and improved shooting were VASTLY overrated in off season reports we heard about this team. They don’t shoot better and playing fast is good when it’s effective. This team has guards playing fast and driving without scoring themselves or dishing to a teammate for an easy bucket. Not effective. Much of the stuff we heard was really just telling us the style of play this team would play. The part that we were NOT TOLD is whether they would be any good at this style……against Princeton and Illinois we did not look good playing this style.
Well said on that nuanced point.
This team CAN run, but there seems to be absolutely no strategy or plan once running. Who shoots? Who dishes? Who cuts to the hoop for a dunk? It's absolutely disorganized out there, and the absence of any semblence of a lineup or lineups is proof positive that there is no plan.
No one drives and kicks to the three point line or looks to dish to a teammate for a easy hoop (Cliff specifically). Cliff and Noah have absolutely zero on court chemistry. What happened to the lobs and dishes we do often saw from Geo, Ron, Paul, Caleb and Cam to Cliff? That was Cliff’s main offensive game and it has just dried up and disappeared. Noah tried one but Cliff missed it of course. Seemed like Cliff was good for 2-3 of those a game and we don’t see them much at all. Would love to see more A Williams on the floor as he reminds me more of the Caleb, Ron, Geo, Paul group as far as his toughness and tenacity. Plus, he actually finishes his layups at the rim. Get Mag back, play Gavin more for his scoring, A Williams and JMike more than they are now and try to establish a tenacious, pressing defense with pressure as a possible identity for this team. They play a lot of guys and have a deep rotation so I think the strategy should be to press relentlessly and wear teams down.
