RU Getting the Fox A-Team For Washington Game

Gus Johnson is an overexcitable simpleton who calls a 15-foot jump shot as if it was a coast-to-coast slam over a 7-footer.

Whenever I watch a game he's doing -- I watch for the games, not the clowns with microphones -- I always have to turn up the volume when I change channels because it's so low because of him.

Horrible.

Over the middllllLLLLEEEE

You guys don't like any of those? Lol
Not if I got to hear this 85 times a game: "Mariota... on dah KEEEPERRRR!!!!!! OH.... WHAT A STOP FOR A GAIN OF ONE!!!!!!! OOOOOH... MY..... GAAWWWWDDDD!!!!!!! What a MAJOR second and NINE WE HAVE HEAR!!!!!!!"
That's how I feel listening to Bob Wischusen call the Jets games on the radio.

"Sanchez looks left throws right andddddd THE BALL IS CAUGHT for a gain of twoooo. Second and 8 ..."

If I wanted to hear someone scream during an event, I'd listen to Joe Rogan during one of its PPVs. At least someone is getting their face bashed in when he says OOOOOHHHH!!!!!!!

Sounds...

1. More like a local radio guy, not national.

2. And because of #1 IMO does not translate well for TV.

Good for him he's getting paid. His "thing" seems to working.

Reactions: GoodOl'Rutgers
Remember when Klatt and Brando did our 2014 opening game against Washington St. in Seattle, FS1 telecast. Thought that while Brando was very good, Klatt was great. Klatt really did his homework for that opening night and knew the Rutgers team better in comparison than any ESPN knuckleheads who have worked Rutgers games. It was an enjoyable broadcast and a fun evening.

Klatt is one of my favorites. Gus Johnson would be good if he toned down the over excitement for every single play.

Thought that Klatt knew that 2014 Rutgers team inside and out for the opener. He really does his homework and you got to love that. So many ESPN analysts see Rutgers once a year or once every few years and can't even match names and uniform numbers of players, much less get any simple facts correct. ESPN still thinks Janarion Grant won the Quick Lane Bowl MVP instead of Josh Hicks or at least who the TV camera zoomed in to.

I could see where Gus is polarizing. I like him because at least he's excited about his job. I admit to also liking his 3 key points for each team in an attempt to simplify what's important. He's usually spot on.

I find a Fox Sports telecast refreshing as it's getting away from the ESPN Fifth stringers that they usually assign to a Rutgers game.

I'm also a huge fan of the BTN telecasts and really enjoy the pre and post games with the crew. They just know these B1G teams and personnel much better than ESPN. It's their job and they're pretty good. It's not perfect. I could still hear J. Leman butchering Bateky's name ("Ba" "Tek" "E"). But the coverage goes a long way to feeling that Rutgers is given some attention. For Tier 3 games, I'd much rather be on BTN than ESPN's 5th channel.
