Rutgers being terrible this year = cutting the cable cord

Depends how many sports you follow...

Rutgers football only is 12 weeks (5-6 if you go to the home games). Can have a good time at a local bar playing the game.

If you follow a lot of sports you need ESPN app which means cable account.

As long as your friend have the sports package, you can try to use someone's Xfinity App (Or Fios, Optimum, TW, etc) to watch all sports channels: ESPN, FOX, B1G, NBCSN, etc. Thing is with Xfinity app is that there's no MLB Network, NFL Network, NHL Netwok.

who knew - i plug back in my old Black & White tube t.v. with 4 channels and UHF - and they'll call me a Millennial!

Sling TV is a great option. For $20/month you can get around 20-25 channels streamed via the internet (similar to Netflix). The basic package includes ESPN and ESPN2. For $5/month more, you can get the Sports Extra package, which includes some more sports channels like ESPNU, SEC Network, etc.

It's not free, like getting a buddy's login info, but it's far cheaper than cable. You need a Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Nexus Player for it to work, but they are pretty cheap. Also will work with any smartphone.

Ever clean out an attic or something and come across an old sports page article about some "playoff race" that's been completely forgotten since? Truth is most sports is trivial and increasingly not worth watching. If you give it up for awhile you'll find you miss it less than you thought. You can always see the highlights online or even download whole games (I find most RU games on torrents). Once I spent a year in the Hamptons. I had cable home but not where I was staying. I discovered I actually liked not falling in line on cue for whatever season was due. Even now I am watching games but finding NFL almost unwatchable. Only thing I might miss is playoffs and Olympics but I get those events online.
