John O., who's been around recruiting for quite a while, has said in the past that fans can often take a loss, even a bad loss, more to heart than many recruits do.
When a new staff comes in, prospects are sold, or not sold, on a school by the drive of the new coaches, the energy they give off, and the coaches' vision for the program in regards to turning things around.
Now, would it be a positive to have recruits see RU be competitive against a top 5 team like Michigan? Without a doubt. But in the end, one of the most pivotal factors in recruiting is the staff's ability to have prospects see beyond what might be taking place on the field in the present, and convince them of what can be in the future if they were to bring their talents to Rutgers. -And so far, this staff has been doing an effective job of that and hopefully that trend will continue right up to NSD and beyond.
