Basketball Rutgers falls at home to Iowa, ends at-large hopes with poor second half

I know it’s easy to point to pike first

But tbh this is the first game this year where I felt like the team was totally checked out and didn’t give a shit about this game

Granted that level of effort and interest trickles down from the coach but I felt like the team just decided screw it with 5 min left in the game

Oh also… the rest of the roster sucks after Bailey and Harper
Harper sucked. This game was basically on Harper. He set a pathetic tone. No defense. Terrible offense. Totally outclassed.

If only Pike had one or two more legit Big Ten players.

He only has himself to blame for wasting the best recruiting class in school history.

"Rutgers warmups after halftime a bit casual and that's how they have started the 2nd half".

Yeah but us amateur dopes who called this out a few weeks ago were clueless.
And they just said it again post game. Who The frack exactly is THAT on? The fracking coach!!!(

Harper was outplayed by that little Harding dude, don’t let the NBA scouts see that tape. I am sure we’ll get a report that he was injured, or he was sick…..not buying it, he was out there and played so he does not get an excuse or a pass. He has been great this year, but this loss is largely on him. Why didn’t he drive more against these smaller and less athletic defenders?

This was always a BS take....happy to see it was officially debunked tonight. They both need people around them - they are not leaders. They are really, really good basketball players who play for themselves without much thought about the team around them.
They are also forced to play for themselves. Pike just rolls the ball out. They did themselves no favors coming here.

Yes, it does trickle down from the coach, and its ALL on him. If he stays he'll be getting booed out of the rack this time next year. Not sure EJ could get more out of this team.

The heating pad will be Pike's excuse for Harper. "Love this guy, he gutted it out".

I will gladly cheer for them to lose out if it gets Pike and staff fired.

Dylan Grant, Ogbole, Bryce and JMike are the only players I want to return next year, hopefully for a new staff.

Just when I was starting to come around to liking this team a little, they decide to play like it’s recess in 5th grade….just playing for fun with no intensity to win

Don’t want to hear it, not having it. You played, you stayed on the floor, if you are too hurt or going to mention that it impacted your play, then don’t get on the floor, don’t play. He played and was on the floor, so we can only evaluate off what we saw him do, no aggression or intensity whatsoever from him. The rest of the team as well, but really have not seen that from Dylan this year. He looked totally checked out tonight. Not saying he checked out for the season, we’ll see, but tonight he was 💯 checked out.

No interior defense whatsoever — on Pike.

Two of the most dynamic players in the country slowed down in a plodding offense — Pike.

In the bonus with 12 minutes to go in the second half — how many FTs the rest of the game? On Pike.

We’re gonna give up close to 50 in the second half.

I’m getting really close to being done with Pike.

Can we hire a friggin President & AD already????
Dylan plays slow and deliberate, its not the offenses fault

Another really bad loss at the RAC.The notion Rutgers can defeat Iowa with only 24 points from Bailey and Harper is truly wishful thinking. The man to man defense was abysmal allowing far to many layups. In the second half Rutgers shot bricks from the 3 point line which allowed Iowa to maintain the lead at crunch time. There simply is no sense of urgency from the coaching staff or players. The fact Bailey and Harper took so few shots is something I don't understand. What I do understand is that McCaffery is a great offensive coach who continues to defeat Rutgers because he runs a halfcourt offense that is hard to defend.

Tonight was really bizarre. Like he was drugged.
He had no urgency tonight, even down multiple possessions down the stretch. He plays slow regardless, dribbling until he finds the opening he wants.
One time tonight we finally saw what I envisioned all year. Dylan gets into the paint and finds an open Acuff (not a purposely open JWill, JMike, or JD) for a look from three. Never saw it again.

His defensive game plan completely nullified our two “stars “

Not just drive, he needs to just start backing down smaller less athletic guards and power up bunnies and lay-ups.

how about the inbounding? 😂😂😂

Hail Mary to the other team.

They are ****ing awful at everything related to basketball. Zero coaching the entire season.

Pike and staff have to go. Two dreadful years in a row, with zero improvement. Players throwing the ball all over the ****ing court to the other team, or slipping on banana peels, or pump faking until they get blocked or stolen, or whatever jailhouse rules Derkack plays by.

Whole program is an embarassment. A good coach would call that out right away. Is he afraid of hurting their feelings?
