Basketball Rutgers falls 80-72 at Penn State plagued with turnover, foul troubles

Post from X, on point!
“Dylan Grant comes out of the gate hot, once again proving how much of a mistake not playing him the entire first half of the season was. And what does pike do? Sits him the entire second half when Ace was begging for help from further down the depth chart.

And ogbole, who has found his stride on rebounds of late, sits the entire second half when we desperately needed a stop. The coaching mistakes are just absolutely punishing this team.”
Other post mention RU losing to a team with less talent.
As well as discipline and accountability.
As you say the coach is ultimately responsible!
I am a Rutgers fan.
If Pike doesn’t get this group to the Tournament, as a Rutgers fan I would hope we move on from him.
Ita very unlikely we go to the tournament and we aren’t moving on from pike.

Is he also not responsible for roster construction? Meaning, besides not coaching up the players playing like shit, he is also responsible for bringing them in thinking they wouldn't play like shit? Just asking for clarity
Do you understand what the word ultimately means?

That was a must win. So that sucked. But, all of these are must wins.

How the hell does Ace have 30 pts and miss 2 shots and we lose by 8? Hows that possible, mathematically?
Pikiel and Knight!
Anyone that thinks pike deserves this job must be a braindead moron or someone with a learning disability at this point. With our recruiting and our development there is literally zero hope in him ever doing anything meaningful in this NIL world. He can't identify transfers and he sure as shit can't keep them. Hell, he lost omoruyi before transferring was even a popular thing.

There's a reason that guy badmouthed pike on the way out. He identified that pike can't coach shit.
I really do think he's dumb.

I think 8-4 with a few tourney wins could get us in depending on the 8 wins. If we end up beating MSU, illinois, Michigan as part of the 8 wins it’s going to help a ton
Agree. Winning the remainder of our six home games along with two wins at Michigan, Purdue, or Oregon would get us in at 11-9. That would give us wins over five top 25 teams.

Have u ever sprained your ankle like that? I did exactly what he did stepping on another players sneaker and it swelled up for 8 months and was not able to walk on it for 3 weeks.. The fact that he stayed on the court is nothing short of amazing to me. I'd be shocked if he doesnt miss games that was a bad one. I did it 30 yrs ago and to this day if I step off the sidewalk onto grass it rolls there is no ligament.

Again..he didnt look great before the ankle sprain.

Good for him for playing thru it…

Grant was not able to defend their big guy...was a major issue in the 2nd half

The nail in the coffin was down 3 like a minute 20 left all we need is a basket to make a 1 pt game and we hoist a 3pt by DH. A possible 1 pt game turns intonation 5 pt game.... Just needed a basket. Just gotta play SMART BALL
And he had a wide open lane to his left. We only needed a 2 at that point Also down 10 with 4-5 minutes to go we ran down the clock on offense a few times?

I've never seen so many people that know nothing about basketball but are caught up in the hype with 2 NBA draft picks. Even Bardo is less than bright. Team ball wins games. The difference is that when the blue chips get them they have to play team ball.
1) we dribble way too much
2) we do not move w/o ball
3)we do not cut to basket
4) we could have a guy who shoots 3 at 2% and we'll put him in corner to shoot 3's

We will score alot more points moving w/o ball and cutting to basket than dribbling all over the place and housting shots we cannot make

Dude at sports desk after laker game said it best....nobody is watching the games because NOBODY wants to pay to go to game or watch guys take 30 shots and miss 20 of them. If you are a 25% 3 pt shooter you shouldnt be shooting 3's. Our team is becoming unwatchable. He also said instead of guys passinto big man posting up for easy 2 they'd rather hoist up a 30fter and expect the big man to get the rebound
this times 1000, excellent post

Pinning this loss on Ace is comical. They’re not even even this game without his ridiculous shooting tonight. And Both Ts were questionable. Cooper Flagg literally did the same after a poster last game and no call. That’s one you let go. The 2nd was a common foul. Baldwin flopped. A lot of other blame to go around other than him

The Internet has turned into the twilight zone because of the hidden agendas. When someone is saying something that doesn't make sense; or they purposely only tell half of the story it's because they are pushing an agenda. Lol they don't mention his defense, he was the best defender on the team tonight, his rebounding, his intensity, because that doesn't fit their narrative of him not caring about winning snd being a "me" player.

Not enough ball movement, cutting and screening. Too many end of clock shots by players that shouldn’t be shooting and too many drives into traffic by players that get trapped and turn it over.

Ace didn't even take that many shots and the only reason he took as many as he did was because Dylan was hurt. The problem was guard play and the turnovers that were a result of guard play. If they needed an extra 5k for Matt Alocco they could've asked me lol

Yes and that’s going to be difficult

i would have given that up to have another scorer
Dude has been on fire 🔥

Maybe we match up well but I am never ever impressed watching Penn State. We lost to a very mediocre team today in front of 5k people.
VERY MEDIOCRE, and that’s being generous. I don’t think they are very good, neither are we of course since we lost to them, but PSU is not good just because they beat us. No inside presence for PSU, they rebound as bad as we do or worse, in fact we crushed them on the boards 34-22. They are a middle of the pack big ten team, we are around the same level.

i got your sarcasm meter but there are posters actually saying this lol
Seriously? They are going to factor in his illness just like we heard they would factor in the OSU out of bounds win that was stolen from us and Magg’s injury would be factored in? You betcha……zero point zero chance that happens……zero point zero is also now our NCAA chances, this was one of the most winnable games remaining, especially out of the road games. Without being able to get this one against an average big 10 team, it’s impossible to see how we get 9 wins based on the remaining schedule. Can’t beat PSU, then we definitely can’t beat Michigan, Oregon, Illinois, Purdue, highly unlikely we beat Maryland, that’s 5 losses right there, tack on one or two more and at best we go 6-6 for a 16-15 finish. 2 lottery picks but the same results as when we had Andre Hyatt and Simpson

yes there were posters that thought the committee was going to not count 2 games where Dylan played (one of which he played significantly) or assume they won them even they lost both at home by double digits while overlooking a loss at Kennesaw State

but you are right...psu isnt a ncaa team most likely, not beating them but somehow some think there is a tear of road wins and top 15 upsets coming..thats said would you be totally surprised with a win over Michigan State at MSG that gives everyone false hope again

Ace: “I can posterize people and get buckets”
“But can you do the things needed to win?”
Ace: “What?”

Of course tonight wouldn’t have been close without Ace, but there’s a lot lacking to his overall game. Poise for one. Act like you’ve been there. And I’m tired of the “he’s young”. A lot of frosh around the country are acting more mature. There isn’t any talent to surround Ace and Dylan, but that doesn’t mean Ace is a winning college basketball player. He’s a highlight reel but it takes more to win. I like winning.
Only at Rutgers where we expect more from players because of a poorly constructed roster and inefficient coaching/schemes.

Smh

Said that from the very beginning RU & RU media made this about 2 players and disregarded the other 13 on team. Nobody will want to hear this but team will be better w/o 2 NBA draft picks. This program does not have the maturity & culture to have 2 players of this caliber on it and be successful. JMO
100% but the catch 22 is, there no way you turn this down because of the exposure.

JD has generally come in as a guard. Martini and Grant traded minutes at the four.

As crazy as it is, JD was our second best guard tonight. And even crazier, he wasn't that far behind a poorly performing Harper.
Zero points 1 assist definitely crazy we can’t get better help

I agree with you about roster construction and inefficient coaching, but if by more you mean I expect Ace to act more mature. Yes. There are frosh that act like they’ve “been there before”. Ace has so much talent it wouldn’t hurt his career to learn poise. Do I think he’s the reason we lost, no! We’re not in it without him. However I’m entitled to just like winning more than Sports Center highlights.
