Rutgers In to See Paul Mulcahy Twice This Week

We're going so hard after Mulcahy. It'll be a heartbreaker if he doesn's sign with us. I fear Villanova in this battle.

I believe the legitimate fear is Northwestern. They have not made him a priority as yet. If that changes it will be a battle. They have had a tough year, but with new facilities, a remodeled home court, a fabulous academic environment and campus they could be tough to beat. Villanova has higher folks on their board. Mulcahy is aware of that and I do not expect he wants to be their Plan C. We have put in the work and are currently in very good shape. Northwestern, however, if the prioritize him, will make this a battle.

I don't see how NW is any more of a rhreat than RU...we have a new facility going up and if they aren't making him a priority over the last 8 months, I don't see this as a Duke or Villanova situation with NWestern.

I tend to think we give other schools far more credit for what they have than what RU has...these gaps are being closed. If it's the academic angle than that's mostly true but it's not drastically different on the court with both programs now.

I would not feel like if I'm a NW fan that I'm in great shape here...if he wants to leave the area, he has much better options than NW....remember, kids want to play first and Mulcahy will get ample opportunity for that at RU. It was what convinced Mathis to get on board and Mulcahy and Hyatt also are two key pieces that perfectly compliment the style we want to look like.

There are other very good players on RUradar but NW can find another player somewhere else.

Northwestern got so much hype last year. Going to be a powerhouse and then reality set in this year. But yes we need to get Paul.

Agree with previous poster------Nova won't offer the kid

NW has some things to sell-----academics and a great city to play in along with their new facility.

It will be interesting. .

It will be interesting to see if Mulcahy is sitting behind the Rutgers bench today against Illinois.

Illinois also offered Alan Griffin--someone Rutgers has been looking at--yesterday. Will be interesting to see if he's in attendance as well.

Interesting take. Have you heard that he likes Northwestern? I agree Northwestern has some great qualities, but one big disadvantage they have is fan base. They have a small alum base and don't get much of a following from the city of Chicago. Villanova has the same issue, but the philly suburbs are large and affluent and make up the difference. Nova success obviously helps.

I think we are even footing with them in recruiting. Big loss if we lose him. Pike has been all over him.

Comparing fan bases doesn't favor Rutgers versus Northwestern.Rutgers has around 2000 season ticket holders which hardly is impressive .What matters in sports is winning and that drives attendance .

My daughter is a sophomore in high school. Likes Northwestern but the school is so far away. Not my number 1 choice for her. Hope Paul wants to be closer to home. I am surprised we have 2000 season ticket holders. 1991 is long time to be patient.

Need to win to build up fan base. 2,000 season ticket holders is disappointing but folks want value for their dollars which RU has not delivered in 28 years.

Exactly, UCONN fans are crying after two bad years. Bush was President I believe last time went to tourney. The first one.

NW has nothing more to offer than RU as far as basketball....definitely not fan base, facilities or league....staffs are equal as well.

It would be a 2019 recruiting battle, so certainly many more recruits will hit the radar this spring, but given how close Mulcahy is to RU and the ease for the staff to see his games, it won't be because of lack of effort on the staffs part.

I think Rutgers leads for Mulcahy right now based on mutual interest. My concern is crunch time when a decision has to be made.Negative recruiting clearly has worked against Rutgers in the past and the consecutive losing seasons certainly doesn't help the cause.Hopefully, Mulcahy is the type of recruit that wants to be a difference maker at Rutgers.

My daughter attended NW----loved it.

Stayed in Chicago area after a great job offer and she and my son-in-law have done exceptionally well in their careers.

It's an easy flight but I do everything I can to avoid O'Hare on Fridays.

All I am going to say is that if I was a D1 talent, and I saw how much energy Pikiell puts in on the sidelines, etc, it would be hard to say I want to play anywhere else.

Recruit loves the game. Why not play for a coach that will challenge you in that competition?

I don't see NW as a competitor.

This case aside, I tend to think people under estimate the gap between what we have and what other schools have. If people went O road games and toured some of these other facilities they would realize the difference. Recent investment may change that but there’s no physical structures to support it yet.

I don't get why several would not consider NW a very worthy alternative to RU whether limiting the debate to just basketball or worse for RU the overall collegiate/academic experience. Collins has already taken them to the NCAA and has as much or more to sell than Pike who quite honestly needs to be held accountable for the lack of individual player improvement during the course of the year. We are putting the time in with this kid but to have a chance you need to outwork the competition given our lack of success and trying to get kids to believe this will get turned around.

He's a white kid at a private high school. Those kids 99% of the time pick Nova, NW, etc over RU

NW with a great incoming class FWIW------ranked in Top 20 in some polls.

Had to be one of the major disappointments in college basketball. Magazine I bought had them going to sweet sixteen. NW that is.

I have a feeling this kid chooses RU. If he doesn't, it's not for a lack of trying.

Tight knit family that sees every game. To be frank, to some kids that does not matter. I think to Mulcahy it does.

Every good program needs a player like Mulcahy. They don't need five of him, but they need one.

Yeah, for all the apparent mutual interest it would be very disappointing to not get him.

Collins is no slouch as a coach and equally, if not more energetic.

I wonder how his game translates, just like Mac McClung.

If there was a dead eye three point shooter who could shoot the ball off the bounce, and in set position, and he was onto Rutgers, and then the program lost him, I would be more upset there.

Aundre Hyatt is the guy we need for that.
