Rutgers Retains Council to Investigate Football

bus--you should not spread bs rumors-- saying flood ignored the drug policy is pure speculation on your part--if he did, he should be fired , julie should be fired and we will be on probation--but most of us know you are full of it

There's an investigation for a reason, so we can "speculate" that he/they may have not properly adhered to the departments polcies, nothing wrong with that at all right now. HOPEFULLY that's not the case, because I don't want to see any more negativity in the press, however, as I stated above:

- it could be just on Flood, if he did things the way he wanted to, and Julie was unaware. As each team is responsible for their own reporting - IIRC - this is very possible. In other words...for example...the women's tennis coach decided not to forward a 3rd failed drug test, so her star singles player wouldn't miss a big match, but someone caught wind of the situation, reported it, and bamm, there you go.

- it could be on both if he went to her and said "i want to do this, but it's against our policy" and she agreed, no doubt, and I said above, I would have to support any decision to remove anyone from their positions, at that point, who agreed to such a thing.

That being said, the NCAA has nothing to do with this, for a reason - it's way too expensive and time consuming - so there wouldn't be any NCAA probation JUST for breaking our own drug policies.

Rutger's football has very little credibility (fairly or unfairly so makes no difference). Also, if there are potential violations of NCAA rules the first question by that "august" body is what did you (RU) do about it. This is plain and simple insurance and I applaud the President of the university for being proactive. Whatever the results of the investigation are the university will not be accused of covering it up.

no,check Syracuse and their bball program vis a vis drug testing and their ncaa infractions for lack of institutional control- ncaa has ALL to do with this ,that's why RU hired a firm that specializes in ncca violations

Yup, if we're ALSO nailed for academic fraud and boosters paying athletes, in multiple sports, it would all go under"lack of institutional control." This, in and of itself, no chance, ESPECIALLY since we would be self-reporting and, I assume, handling it accordingly. Let's be real: Boeheim wasn't getting fired, so Cuse dealt with the NCAA, agree?

yep, I hire you, trusted law firm, to get us out of this contract. Go dig up some dirt so we fire KF without penalty.

No way Flood survives, its probably going to hurt his future job opportunities. He should just go in and say "uncle" call off the dogs and i'll settle this for you, at least he can keep his name from getting any more mud on it

I sincerely don't understand some of the hand-wringing. Why wouldn't you want an institution to be at least giving the impression of a thorough, independent investigation into incidents that caused some of the worst headlines in the school's athletics history? The paranoia and hyperbole are unnecessary.

Agreed. We can all lament the current state of the world and the need to lawyer up for jaywalking. But those are the times in which we operate. Adding fuel to the fire, we operate in the crosshairs of the Star Ledger. Adding jet fuel to that, we have Elmer Fludd conducting Black-Ops all over Middlesex County and admitting that he "talks to professors all the time" in a press conferences, having his d backfield arrested for felonies, his captain in the midst of a cat fight, the 86th man on his roster saying he's rolling spliffs in the locker room and oh yeah, he gets blown out in every big game he coaches.

Contrary to what some on here believe, Barchi has a responsibility to the University first. If and when he gets to Athletics, he gets to Athletics. He wasn't brought here to steer us into B10 prominence. He was brought here to lead one of the most complicated mergers in higher education history. He was brought here to improve fund raising. He was brought here to get desperately needed infrastructure built. Check. Check. Check.

The fact that he's constantly stepping in the steaming shit piles left by the Athletic Department is partly terrible luck and partly his lack of experience managing athletics at this level. His tenure has shown us one thing. He has very little interest in getting up to speed on managing an AD. He's an old man. This is his last managerial rodeo. Those who continue to expect the decisions to come down similar to what an Alabama or FSU would do, continue to set themselves up for daily kicks to the junk.

Manage your expectations better and all this becomes much more enjoyable...

Guys have done a lot worst and ended up with good coaching jobs. Flood, eventually, will be fine. May have to "settle" for an FCS/D2/D3 HC slot, however, but I doubt his coaching days would be over.

Wrong.
HC in Premier CFB Conference ✔️
$2.5 Million potential Salary ✔️
Largest Media Market in the Country ✔️
One of the Top Recruiting states on the East Coast ✔️

You are right, what bright decent Coach would want this opportunity.
$2.5M? For a big name coach that is not desperate for a 2nd chance. WRONG. Small money. $2.5 million jobs do become available in other markets with less media frenzy. The largest media market cuts both ways as you have seen. What kind of field day will the NJ media have if Tressel is named and their is a whiff of possible problems. They are going to hammer the administration and him as a repeat offender that should never have been hired.

... you lose me at "Elmer Fludd."

I think everywhere from Alabama to Vandy would have fired a coach for what Flood did if the on the field record was comparable.

I really just hope they're waiting for a final nail, because him coming back, like Rice, who would have been fired even at Kentucky for that BS, is shameful.

After hearing Julie tonight at the Touchdown Club, it seems a lot of the "experts" on here either have really bad memories, or are liars :P

Might as well spill the beans, as whether he will coach again will become apparent in 8 days.
