Rutgers vs Michigan State / Game Thread

How is coaching supposed to overcome the fact that you have a MLB and a WLB who are too weak to get off blocks? We suck defending the run because our LBs are too easy to block. Roberts consistently brain farts, takes bad angles to the ball carrier and get swallowed up in the wash. That is all on him. Morris needs to get stronger. He can't shed blocks. When your LBs are consistently blocked, it's much easier for the opponents RBs to get to the second level.

It's not just them. Our DL gets pushed around like they are on skates, and our DBs are burnt toast. It's a bad mix. What's worse is they are likely really competitive with our offense in practice. We have nothing.

But yea, it's coaching. Lombardi would lose with this team. Ash might suck or he might be Belichik. No one can know with these players.

Recruit.

Gio is now beginning to look like a 2 star qb. The offensive line cannot block. The WR cannot get separation. LB are always out of position. DB cannot cover. DL cannot stop the run. MSU looks like a top 4 team. Sums it up.

"it all starts and ends with the lines"...is really showing today. Our OL is awful. Flat-out awful. Because of it, as I just said in response to another post, we can't do a damn thing on O against a D like this.

We have very little talent. Yes, I know, I know, the RB's are talented, however....The OL is absolutely awful, hence, there are NO holes for our backs to run through and NO time for our QB to find open receivers (if they get open).

What happened to quick slants, misdirections, reverses, quick pitches, using recievers, running backs in motion, roll outs. Nothing! It's not all talent. Hate the out pattern across the field. While it was a bad throw by Gio, that's a tough play for a first year QB. That's coaching.

why did we fire flood then? it was his players that sucked ..... they lost the games

Flood didn't recruit at a B1G level and he was in over his head in a Power 5 conference.

I'm not going to trash this staff when I consider that they didn't recruit any of these kids. Maddox-Williams is our best LB out there - a true freshman recruited by Ash. Roberts needs to sit. He couldn't start for any team in the B1G. He is undersized, can't get off blocks and he doesn't play smart. Morris has potential but he needs to eat and hit the weight room. These kids play because the kids behind them are even worse.

If this were year 3 and these were Ash's recruits out there, then yeah, I would be all over Ash and Co.

Some of todays performance is on the coaching e.g. suspect playcalling on O, but most of it is on the lack of talent. We don't have a very talented football team. We have no playmakers on offense. Harris is decent but this is his first year. He flashes. Outside of him the only other guy we have in the passing game is a wildly inconsistent Patton. We have a QB with a gimpy hamstring. Martin is also playing hurt. Playcalling on O today has been suspect at times. Defense has been on the field the entire 1st half. Guys need to make plays and they haven't done it. On offense the OL is losing more one on ones than they have won. Can't run the ball effectively when they don't get a "hat on a hat".

Again: you do realize the O we've run since the beginning of the 2nd half, against Minny, is not the same O that Gio was able to run prior, right? His injury has drastically cut down the playbook, without question, it's a shame, but what can we do? Throw Odin out there for the 2nd half? Maybe.

On the pick 6 - I agree with you. That was not a good playcall.

However - there were other targets on that play besides Harris. Rescigno should have checked off.

If you live within 30 mins of RU get your butt to Busch today and see the ladies soccer team in action!! They deserve it so fun to watch !! NCAA tournament. Bring the kids!

Yeah, it's the coach's fault that Muller was running up Martin's ass on the play, lol! I'm sure that's EXACTLY the way the play was designed and practice LOL!

Our LB's are pretty much clueless. They don't know how to fill holes they merely shift laterally and try to catch the RB instead of attacking him. Beyond lost the whole friggin corps.

we're getting steamrolled - it's really pathetic - on every play, their RBs, after getting to the 2nd level, overpower a LB or DB. We look like a girls team - and that's insulting to girls.

Look at our LBs get pushed back. They give up 2 yards on ever tackle

Iv'e been screaming about the SIZE of our LB's for 4 years now. We are simply too small at LB. Need 6'3"+ monsters out there in this conference. 5'11" to 6'1" guys ain't cutting it (which is why I didn't think the Florida kid who quit was going to be any good here...).

We are slow, weak, and small.

We get roadgraded by every team. For all the coaching geniuses here, enlighten us. How do you win when so clearly overmatched?
