Rutgers Women’s Soccer Hosts No. 14 Northwestern and Illinois

Rutgers women's soccer returns home to host No. 14 Northwestern on Thursday and Illinois on Sunday at Yurcak Field.

Thursday's match with the Wildcats is set for 8 p.m. ET live on Big Ten Network with Dean Linke and Kate Markgraf on the call. Sunday's match with the Fighting Illini is set for 1 p.m. ET.

I can't understand why the women aren't in the Top 25 but perhaps that will be a good motivator for them this weekend, on the heels of last weekend's more successful than usual venture into the Midwest. A sweep this weekend would put them in a good position in the conference past the halfway point in the conference season.

RU doesn’t do well when 1-2 wins from being ranked ... break the jinx!!!

We are getting thoroughly outplayed. No offense other than Ali but no one else comes forward with her. This one going to OT and does not look good for RU.

If that’s not the B1G Play if the week, it’s rigged ... OT goal against highest ranked team ... RRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Great win for the women.

Illinois has not been an easy out for them in the recent past. I think it was just two years ago that a mediocre Illinois team came to RU and tied the highly ranked women, which, IIRC, may have cost them a share of the conference championship.

So I hope they will stay focused on Sunday and come away with the sweep.

I agree with wn other than Ali we have absolutely no one else who can finish at all. It’s unfortunate because Ali needs help upfront and with all these girls he recruits it’s amazing to me how none of them are an offensive threat

Brittany LaPlant. For some reason Mike has relegated her to sub role with limited minutes.

Your correct I rewatched the game on DVR but the two sisters he seems to have fallen in love with do not have good foot skills as one of them probably would have had a goal in the first half but just had no left foot

Brittany has very good skills, speed & soccer sense. She & Amirah had developed a good chemistry as well. She has had shin problems, but had been starting & playing very well. She hurt her shoulder & missed a game & was limited a bit after that, but I'm quite sure she is good now. In the meantime Mike began to use Nicole Whitley up front, but she doesn't have the speed. Then he was starting Chantelle Swaby up there. She didn't have a clue. Nneka Moneme has become a starter. Quick hard shot, but not fast feet & so, so soccer sense. He also brings Tierney Wiltshire off the bench before Britany. Tierney does not have the offensive skills of Brittany. I have no clue about what's going on here. Hopefully Brittany starts to get more significant time down the final stretch. She also comes back hard on defense, which Mike wants. Maybe she's in the dog house, though I wouldn't think that Mike would do that. I would like to see Brittany, Amirah & Nneka start up front. Amirah is obviously a hand full for any defense--great player.

That’s the other problem Amira’s is our only threat and there are many times during the game where he has her come all the way back on defense into the box and then she and the other girls have to make almost a full field run and that’s one of the reasons why we can’t generate offense a lot of time because the whole team is back on defense. It also to me has to lead to Amira’s being exhausted which in turn is one of the reasons why it’s tough for her to avoid injuries because she is putting such a heavy toll on her body

Listening to some threads, you’d think we are a .500 team instead of unbeaten in conference!

No we are a defense first team which is great but that is why we have had so many overtime games and will keep us in many games but to me this will prevent us from making a deep run into the NCAA’s

I watched most of regulation but did not stay with it until the end. First time I watch this years team and it appears to be a typical O'Neill squad that emphasizes defense. Very happy they found a way to win but agree with others that we still look challenged on the attacking side of the field. Seemed very difficult for us to control the possession and string together multiple passes. At times there were turnovers where I had no idea who the pass was intended for. A W is a W and NW was supposed to be a very good side but in some respects I think we were very fortunate.

How about those announcers. Talk about a Northwestern, old guard, partiality. Couldn't talk at first after Amirah's goal. Thought they might cry.

GREAT win but I fear trouble in the post-season again if we keep going OT in the regular season. While it's nice to be accustomed to winning, in OT, too many OT matches in 2nd half of season can make for "tired legs" late in games come post-season.

I'd settle for getting the 800 lb gorilla off the school's back: getting RU's first B1G Championship. Having NCAA success would be a bonus but I really, really want to end the no B1G Championship curse for RU.

Second that! Is the Champion determined by the final regular season standings?

First goal: beat Illinois
Take care of business game by game and regular season standings will take care of themselves

I agree about the tired legs especially Ali who they make come back on defense and has to make thes almost full field runs without any support at all. Tired legs also lead to injuries so lets hope she is able to get some rest somewhere because she is our only offensive option. As RuDad02 said in another response she and Brittany LePlant were working well together and for some reason she has been relegated to the bench

Experience and toughness! Better hope they are lights out with penalty kicks!!!

Tied 0-0 at the half, despite RU out-shooting them 6-1.

Need to put some in the back of the net now.

Brittany with an excellent through ball to Nneka down the right side. Nneka took it toward the goal & sent a perfect cross to Amirah who drilled it into the net. Meagan with two excellent game saving saves. You go Ladies! Go RU!
