As big is the news that Freeman sprained his foot 10 days ago. Seems like he's iffy for the game. Losing 10 days of practice hurts big time. Get ready for a lot of nail biters against weak OCC opponents and a couple embarassing doubl digit losses to low level teams.

Unreal, and I just got tickets for this game.

Doorson has the foot injury, not Freeman.

Doors has the more serious injury but the article notes Freeman's foot injury as well. Doesn't seem like a long-term thing but the article implies that he's hobbled

Doorson out "indefinitely" is a lot worse than missing Sanders against RU-Nwk but still was looking forward to seeing him play.

Only at RU do you get suspended for actually playing your sport. I get it though, probably should've cleared any summer games with the team, especially ones with sponsors/"pay" attached.

Rules are rules, but, This seems like a silly rule....participation in a non-sanctioned basketball event this past summer. Basically, a basketball player is not allowed to play in a basketball game during the summer ?

Why does the NCAA need to sanction basketball events? Is it to guard against players being paid to participate in certain events or is it playing in a game that promotes a product (sneakers) that the NCAA does not have an agreement with so that it can make money ?

It looks like we'll see how Daniels does as the PG.
Looks like Bishop is going to be Sanders' backup with Williams the other backup PG option.
That's my take after reading article.

noooo!

This to me puts up a yellow flag. How is he put in this situation.
Either
1. No one made it clear to him what he can and can not participate in
2. He ignored it

Convenient to say this is no big deal. Attention to detail is why we are where we are at. Also reason we have a 50,000 seat football stadium and are in the b1G

Self reported.

Apparently one of the summer showcase games advertised themselves as an NCAA sanctioned game. As soon as it was found out not to be, RU self reported it and is sitting him out for the opener.

This is no a discipline issue or anything ridiculous.

What other players played in this game I wonder?

Exactly. Howard finished 16-16 last year and was a young team last year. They had only 1 senior (6'8'' leading scorer) LAST YEAR.
I really hope Jordan coaches these games looking at the long term and isn't afraid to lose these type of games.

Sanders needs a couple games to get his feet wet. Missing one is no big deal.

I believe it was a game that was in Philly this past summer. Could be much worse. Attention to detail, yes, but I can't blame the kid for wanting to play basketball.

Hopefully Rutgers basketball gets to a point one day when they can not be thin. Seems like the last three years I read "They will run a thin bench at 10 players, etc"

I guess its Rutgers and every school in the country. Being thin at Duke hurts less than being thin here.

NCAA violation
Yup, I get that. But there must be a reason that it resulted in a suspension of the player. For instance, if he did nothing wrong and the event itself made the misrepresentation, there'd be no reason to discipline the player. We could guess. Maybe the players are given instructions about these tournaments and the procedure to properly clear them, and Sanders didn't follow that procedure. No idea. But there was something.
