Schiano couldn't beat west virginia in 11 tries but he's going to beat ohio state led by urban meyer and michigan led by a coach who took his nfl team to a superbowl?
Schiano beat Petrino, who is the same caliber of coach.

Can someone please list all of Schiano's conference championships and/or BCS bowl appearences? Thanks.
Uconn wasn't a bad team, but beating average big east teams is pretty much Schiano's ceiling as a coach.
Schiano was 1 game over .500 here. He failed in the NFL. Yes, he built the program up quite a bit from what it was. But he also had gone as far as he could go.
We can do a lot better if we spend enough money. If we don't spend enough money, then we can expect about the same results we got w/our current staff.
If the school wants to actually have a profitable football program, it's going to have to pony up a huge amount of money (like 15MM) to get a staff that has (a) the name recognition to greatly improve recruiting regardless of having no connections w/NJ and (b) the ability to consistently compete with the majority of the teams in our conference.
Otherwise, we're going to continue to spend a ton of money, as we do now, without improving on our record from last season. We have to win. And we have to win quickly. To win quickly against our current competition requires a very large up-front investment.
There are no shortcuts to consistent success for us besides spending a huge amount of money. Everything else is just wishful thinking.
Many players hated him along with many of the front office people. Unfortunately that is the reputation he has. Maybe it not deserved but that what it is.Players hated him like the overrated QB Josh Freeman who thought he ran the locker room and Schiano benched him and got rid of him? Where is Josh Freeman today? That team was a mess when Schiano got there and they needed some discipline but they all whined like babies.
In what universe is Schiano comparable to Pete Carroll?
Yeah, except no offensive guru wants to work with him because he's a control freak. He did a hell of a job except he peaked. He's not the guy to take us to the next level.Stop with the one game over .500 crap. He inherited one of the worst teams in the country... I think we were 116th or 118th He put us on the freaking map. The program was dead when Shea was canned. Schiano did a hell of a job. Bring him back and get an offensive guru to support him.
Many of his college players and their families love him, and I know many of them.
How has Bill Snyder II done at Kansas State?
Yeah, coaches can be fired. But firing coaches every couple/few years will not produce the desired results.mildone -- why not $20 million? or $25? There's the same chance the administration is going to spend that kind of money. And do I get a guarantee this coach will beat Maier, Harbaugh, Dantonio consistently? Take a break.
I keep hearing we should be going for National Championships. Now. What are you all smoking?? What happened to walking before you run?
I'm still waiting for the name (or if I take you people at your word: names). Where is this magical coach -- at ANY price?
Why can't we just try to stop the foundering ship from sinking, and then worry about making it the Queen Mary?
I haven't heard too much negativity about what Schiano would do in the short term, and rightly so. He's had failure in the NFL, but hasn't Saban? What about Johnson at Miami? And on and on.
But he's also had success at the college level -- at arguably the worst football program in the country. Think about that. Enough success that someone bet $millions he would make a pro HC.
We're not talking guaranteeing him 10 years. Coaches can be fired. Two/three years into a contract, extension talk comes up and we'll have a pretty good idea.
We're talking about bailing out the water and righting the ship. Who else in the price range is a better candidate. Honestly.

I'm with you all the Brother. He can come in and immediately move the needle. Can't say that about some of the others mentioned. He is someone that could go head-head against Meyer, Harbaugh, and Franklin and not blink. I think he would KILL it on the recruiting trail, now that he has the B1G to sell. He built this. He understands the Rutgers Context, what NJ coaches are looking for, and what he needs to do to make us a championship contender. For the last 14 years, we've been following the Schiano plan. We don't need another plan, when we are so close. 53K stadium was part of gregs plan. B1G was part of Gregs plan. All we need is more discipline, more attention to detail, better execution, better recruiting and better personnel management.
Now he can return to take us to the next level. Keep most of the recruiting class, get Fuller, get Gary, and we're sitting pretty. Get it DONE!!!
?Here is the problem. His NFL experience the players absolutely hated him. He has the reputation of being a tyrant that players did not want to play for and hated. A quick google search would find comments saying things like playing for him was like playing in Cuba. Carroll on the other had was always known as a players coach. He might have failed in the NFL but his players loved him.
yesrutgers tells a different story.
Players hated him like the overrated QB Josh Freeman who thought he ran the locker room and Schiano benched him and got rid of him? Where is Josh Freeman today? That team was a mess when Schiano got there and they needed some discipline but they all whined like babies.
I know a lot of the people that worked for him. While they weren't always happy with his style of management, they did respect him. He demanded perfection from everyone on his staff and didn't tolerate lateness or excuses. His attitude was, if you work hard and get the job done, you'll fit in. If not, pack your bag and get out. If you made it, you and a solid line item on your resume. Many players hated him along with many of the front office people. Unfortunately that is the reputation he has. Maybe it not deserved but that what it is.
Schiano II would be very unlikely to be like Pete Carroll at USC. Why? Because Pete Carroll had all of four seasons under his belt as a head coach when he got to USC. Schiano's been a head coach for thirteen years. They're at different points on the learning curve. As relates to that theory that says it takes ten thousand hours at something to become an expert, Carroll hadn't hit the mark yet when he arrived at USC. Schiano's well past that milestone. Most likely, what you've seen is what you're going to get. Is it impossible that he'll suddenly get much better and be a different coach in a second go around? No, Does it ever happen? Yes. Is it likely to happen? I wouldn't bet on it. It's like when you get new job, you're probably going to see the most improvement in the first few months to the first few years. It's unlikely for your job performance to take a quantum leap at the thirteen year mark.
Schiano is a tough and demanding SOB, who gets the best out of people.for every critic, there are many others who were satisfied with their experience.
We don't need the football coach to be the players friend.
