Schiano must have tied one on after his D pitched a shutout. What version of the spread offense throws the ball 14 times for the whole game? I've seen 14 passes in one drive when teams run it against us.I remember when we played in the Big East during years the competition seemed comparable, and we would debate how those Rutgers teams would do against the elite B1G teams.WTF happened? It's beyond just Flood, it's so much deeper than that.I never thought I'd see these days again, just as I never thought I'd see those Top 25 days either.Recruiting is the catch phrase answer to every problem, which most Rutgers fans say. I believe it's more than that, but don't ask me the answer ,because I don't have one.

Who are we going to throw it to? We were also facing the best passing defense in the NCAA. The announcers were saying this was the best secondary since the Miami team in the early 2000s.

When your QB is better at finding #'s and hash marks on the turf, than he is at hitting hands in the passes used in a 14-play pass drive, you don't have 14-play passing drives.

I totally agree with that, but I believe this goes beyond his lack of talent.Last weeks play calling against Iowa on the goal line proved that. There's more to this,I'm hoping it's just growing pains from a very young OC,that is all.

Spread offenses don't work if you can't pass and catch. It's very easy to defend a 1 dimensional spread if you can only run unless you run the navy triple option.

2012 Ohio St was very close, Meyer's first year. Miller wasn't a great passer & we had 0 WRs at the time. We'd rush the ball 50-60 times per game.

Well that's encouraging,so maybe this is more about transition into a totally new scheme.

We won two games solidly so far, now that Grant is out we are very undermanned. Unfortunately next week is going to make you start thinking about your X-files mystery again, it's not going to be pretty.

RU would have scored on the goal line against Iowa if the execution was better. All Laviano had to do was pitch the ball.

Spread offenses are easy to defend when the QB is not a good runner or passer. That wasn't always the case when Schiano's RU defenses struggled against spread offenses. Most of the opposing QBs could do one or the other (or both) well.

The one lesson that we're learning this year is that changing offensive schemes isn't some magical offensive elixir. You still have to execute, no matter what system you run.

I cant see many OLinemen enjoying this no huddle spread offense. No rest! Exhausted by 3Q! Even with good conditioning, the big men need the huddle to recover!

The better get used to it. It's how football is played now.

Watched 20 games on a typical Saturday and I'd bet more than half use no-huddle. Very rarely do you see teams exclusively use huddle O's.

OL actually kinda like the no huddle for getting rest, provided it isn't super high tempo. They don't have to walk back and forth to the huddle, just stand where they are and wait for the play call. Then again, if they are super high tempo the offense won't be on the field long so they get more rest on the sidelines.

Schiano is a defensive genius, to accomplish what he has been able to do to date with 1 and 2 star recruits, it's amazing. Just imagine if Ohio State could ever recruit 4 and 5 star players at every position what he would be able to accomplish. Mind boggling, simply mind boggling.

I'm still laughing at the suggestion the OSU secondary is the best CFB has seen in 15 years
Why? It's not a trivial claim, and you can make a few cases against it, but you'd be hard pressed (and maybe disingenuous) to come up with more than a few backfields better than OSU's this year, so far. It certainly isn't a laughable claim.

Well, I guess we'll have more evidence a couple months from now.

Why? They very well may have the best D in the nation this year let's see how it plays out.

LOL

Sorry. I'm not sure if you were serious in thinking they might have the best DBs the college game has seen in decades. Know that I know you are serious, I'll go back to laughing.

If you care to be serious, let's take a random guess at how many DBs OSU will have on the first team AP All American team this year and how many they will even have 1st team All Big Ten? I mean they will probably be lucky to even get 1 on the 1st team all conference list since 2 returning 1st team All American DBs are in the Big Ten this year.

Could I find a few better than this this year? Sure. But the claim wasn't that they were the best this year, it was that they were the best since 2001 in all of college football. I mean that's just stupid talk.

Ahhh I get it now you played the flute in UM's band, right? Now I definitely CAN'T take you seriously regardless of anything you have to say because your POV is skewed. Got it. Glad I figured that one out sooner rather than later.

If Harbaugh was smart he would run the goal line defense the entire game. If we run we get snuffed. If Laviano sees the blitz coming he freezes and we get sacked. It doesn't take Bear Bryant to coach D against us

so you are unwilling to predict how many 1st team All Big Ten DBs OSU will have this year? Got it. Unwilling to guess how many 1st team AP All Americans? Got it.

I figured if you were bragging about pure awesomeness you'd at least be willing to back it up with some predictions that can be tested. Guess not.

You know as well as anyone that those awards are spread out and teams with multiple good players at the same position don't all get the same consideration.

I do know. I'm asking for some kind of honest prediction with objective criteria we can judge it on. If just throwing ^$&# against the wall is the standard we are judging players on, well then anything goes. By that logic, maybe Rutgers does have the best secondary in the last 15 years. I mean if we cannot use things like all conference mentions and all american nods and what not, who's to say they don't?

Because I find it kind of hard to draw conclusions about OSU's secondary so far this year when they have faced the #30, #59, #79, and #123 passing offenses in the country.

I don't know how anyone would expect an honest informed discussion with a michigan fan.

well since I'm the one asking for the honest, informed discussion that's kinda odd of you to say. I'm also not sure how what team I root for is relevant to a discussion of facts.

19. Nineteen OSU DB's will be named first team AA this year. Or maybe 20.
