SH tonight. Welcome to the B1G.

A couple SHU fans are crying about the last 2 calls but Hall definitely got clobbered by Gill on his drive late in the game as was easily seen on the replay. Mamu might have been hit somewhat at the end game but as Hawk said Powell forced the issue and was completely out of control. Several SHU guys were ripping the BIG for some early losses but the BIG won the Gavitt games once again 5-3, The BIG came up big. Villanova a supposed top 10 team got blasted by 25 which could have easily been over 30. Northwestern who lost to Merrimack took Providence who many SHU fans think will be dancing to the woodshed. Georgetown playing at home was taken apart by Penn State. McClung only had 3 points and I think was 1-9 from the field.

If Rutgers had played Michigan State at Michigan State on the 3rd game of the 2018 season (not home mind you like Seton Hall) would we be saying Rutgers is a top 20 team for sure?

Overtime loss against Nick Ward, Jaren Jackson, Miles Bridges, Cassius Winston and Romeo Langford. And I'm going to go a head and say that is a lot better MSU team than we saw last night.

In a vacuum no. But if we had a preseason All-American and were coming off of four tournament appearances? Then yes I think we would.

I think the larger story was Monday night, the B1G was in trouble and Friday morning Penn State and Michigan State won road games.

The RU matchup should have Carter, Myles Johnson and Doucoure taking 10 to 12 foul line jumpers...any post up game will be erased by SHU size

I would take 40 3s if I'm RU vs SHU and 15 mid range shots.

While likely true, he played most of the game and made difficult shots...hard to say his ankle was a big factor.

Three from the top of the key towards the end that he nailed sure did not look like any problems with lift. He was above all defenders with no hesitation. Looked fine to me.

lol at downplaying a 37 point game against Michigan state. If Ron Harper scores 30 against brookdale community college half this board would declare him a top 10 pick.

Can our bigs hit a 12 foot jumper? Carter is the only one who has that to some extent, so I wouldn't use that strategy. I'd say a lot of pick and rolls, and dump downs to Myles and let him try to get Gill in foul trouble (they have a sub who is just as tall as Gill btw). As far as 3s, I also wouldn't go there. I'd go for screens and isolations since we might have some matchup problems for them. I'm sure the assistants are already game planning for SH. It'll be tough.

You're an idiot.
Its literally just math lol. Go an look at the stats and see what geo would do with those same shots. Any teams go to player puts up 30+ points with 28 shots, 14 3’s and 9 FT attempts. Again, VERY good college player but saying hes a generational talent is laughable

SHU went toe to toe with the best team in the Big. SHU should have one won the game but played a little sloppy in the last two minutes. The Big 10 Refs, who were good for most of the game, swallowed their whistles on drives by Mamu and Powell at the end. They were mugged. However, that’s basketball.
Msu aint the best team in the B1G, youll see as the season plays out. Hype aint real here. Theyre 3rd

To say that SH is not a top twenty team is ridiculous. They played MSU even and MSU certainly is a top twenty team, at minimum. RU is going to have to game plan for Powell on defense, and for Gill on offense. That won't be easy. They have enough quality players and depth to give anyone a tough time. Wouldn't surprise me at all if SH went deep into the NCAA tourney.
Would shock me if they made a deep run. Teams that are dependent on one guy rarely go far

This ain't it, man. The list of players capable of scoring 37 points on 28 shots with only two turnovers is very very small. Let alone to do it against a top-5 team.

Being able to shoot that many times and maintain your shooting percentage without turning the ball over is extremely tough. Especially when you are the focal point of defenses. Generally when teams decide that they won’t let Geo beat them, he is shut down. Happened all the time last year in conference play.

Phenomenal effort.

Just don’t think a guy who shot 12-28 from the field should be considered “insane” or “lights out”
official box score has him 12-27 and 6-14 from 3. At the time of the comments he was nailing them from deep with hands in the face and shooting 50%...he missed his last couple. He also grabbed 6 rebounds on that bad ankle.

If you remember, Kyk has predicted he's leaving RU for the NBA at the end of this season.

I was watching the Steelers so I didn't see a minute of the game.

42.3% usage and eff FG% of 56% :Shocked

Also notice Gill plays 28 shots and gets only 2 shots up.

Will be very interesting to see how Pikiell game plans this. I could see going a number of different ways.

Do you accept and embrace he is going to dominate the ball and sell out with a guy like Mulcahy guarding him with the instructions of no 3 point attempts and getting beat off the dribble is inevitable.

Was Powell using screens off the ball with many attempts catch and shoot? again didnt see the game

Lol yes no chance they make it through the Rutgers, northwestern, Illinois, Nebraska, penn state grind.

uhhh yeah exactly... they'd lose several of those 10 games if each is home and away and it would be a grind in any of the past 4 years or this one. Rutgers won at Seton Hall last year.

Yes, they were screening for him all night.

We had a good gameplan against them last year. Powell got 28... but the real problem was Mamukelashvili going for 15. Whoever is on him can't help off.

Their big men are going to swallow up our out-of-control drives... that HAS to get cleaned up before then. No running toward the hoop and just throwing up a prayer.

He was coming off screens and off the dribble. I don’t think Mulcahy can guard him at all. I would think young and Mathis. My concern is we will need to make shots to have a chance.

It's Kyk off his meds. What do you expect? :Shocked
Yes Michigan State rallies to win ! Big win for Big 10. Seton Hall perhaps with some questionable shots the last few minutes.

I am not sad[/QUOTE
Of course not. Our hatreds run deep.
You might be the State University but we are New Jersey’s team.
The enviable facts prove this.
BTW, we had 14000 at the Rock last night. With 5 more sell-outs ahead.
Not bad for a private college with 6200 undergrads.

You can gameplan with this Rutgers team for screens when Powell has the ball. Very worried about someone chasing Powell off the ball fighting through screens.

The ultimate answer is multiple people guarding with multiple schemes. I am always worried about secondary options and less about primary options. If SHU beats us it is more likely than not it is going to be someone not named Powell that will be viewed as the reason we were beat.

They did not.
Just mixed it up with some of the other recent wins. Point is Seton Hall is NIT ok this year, but let's all just chill until they get bounced in the NCAA tournament early because they didn't really deserve to be there just had inflated confidence and fresher legs from their weak conference. They'd still lose a vast majority of their road games in the Big Ten. I can't wait until this Seton Hall crap is over, it really is crap. They will soon be far in Rutgers rear view mirror and certainly not making tournaments, enjoy the last year of any sort of relevance.

i would switch 1-4 on him assuming that Yebough or Harper is playing the 4. Any off ball or on ball screen not involving the 5 can be switched . If they are playing a big lineup and they start to throw the ball into the post on one of our guards, then we can adjust but then we would have taken them out of their game..Would they rather have Powel taking threes or someone else posting up one of our guards?

If we are not going to switch mutch, I would just rotate a bunch of guys on him , but mainly have Montez and Caleb guarding him. Caleb is so long with his reach Powell may struggle a little to get shots off . Powell loves the step back and side step shots so thats how he creates space. He will be able to shoot over Tez but may struggle against Caleb's length.

Powell is the first problem we have with Seton Hall but I'm just as concerned with their toughness and size. Bad match-up for us. Home court gives us a shot.

Defending the screens will definitely be key

It didn't appear to me like Powell's ankle bothered him at all. Willard had claimed he would miss at least several games. I believe it was all a smoke screen to throw off MSU. Powell walked off the court by himself against Stony Brook. He was back playing in 5 days. Obviously the injury wasn't very serious at all. J.P. Pelzman is a 100 % SHU man. Of course he defended SHU. What about Gill missing the nice shot by Hall and clobbering him right across the arm with no call. SHU had the game on their home court with everything in their favor and MSU still beat them. This was possibly their biggest test in ages yet we play MSU almost twice every year. We took them into OT just 2 years ago and missed the last shot in regulation at MSU. We get no respect at all for that from SHU.

Right, because you've won 1 out of the last 5 or 6?

That isn't the point at all. They were picked to win their conference by the coaches, top 15 by the AP (and most other outlets), and have a consensus first team All-American. But a guy who can't remember that RU lost to SHU (again) last year knows better? The rear view mirror comment is icing on the cake. How long have we been hearing that? No, really, THIS time.

Just for whatever, Rutgers won 11', 12', 13' and '17, Seton Hal won '14, 15', 16' and '18

and just for whatever else, Mike Rice was terminated after the 2013 season and we had some problems for a few years - bad publicity and saddled with Eddie Jordan.

That kid is damn good. It looked like team Powell and 4 other dudes running around in white uniforms taking up space.
