So I spoke to Shaq Doorson at the FB game today...

I appreciate the enthusiasm and I'm sure Doorson is a good young man. But I suspect that RU will have a very bad year that will end with questions about EJ staying on the job. What may save his job will be the expense of dealing with the football coach.
Maybe not Nostradamus, but this pretty much sums up where we're headed. And the bevy of posters with the usual overly-optimistic claims who all told Willis why he was wrong look even sillier now than they did back then.

Of course there will be improvement next year. The question is: will it be enough of an improvement to retain EJ and extend him? I think it's reasonable to expect to win anywhere between 3-5 B1G games next year with a healthy roster, but is that enough of an improvement in year 4? If Corey bolts after the season then I don't think EJ should even be given the opportunity to prove it on the court.
No guarantees - Jordan could be retained and then Sanders could leave - its happened before

Did these predictions factor in losing Doorson, losing Diallo after 8 games, losing Freeman after 10 games and having the only remaining center playing with a bad knee ? If not, they are not earth shattering and looking back is silly.

Agreed. You make some great points here.

Actually the point is that these tend to happen. The rosy scenario almost never works out whether it be due to injuries or a coach throwing basketball, off field issues or transfers. Yet people continually ignore red flags use a magic wand and only act as if its all positive. Willis touched on 15 straight losses..its now 26 yet already we have fans saying we are going 8-10 in the Big 10 next year all the while we have lost 33 of our last 38 games..okay

Key point:
26 years of futility and no end in sight.
But to maintain sanity, some kind of hope is needed and thinking improvements will be made to change things around is one way of dealing with the doom and gloom the past has given all RU MBB fans.
For some it is never giving up hope and that sometimes riles the RU fans that can't see any improvement happening. For them there isn't one valid reason to put themselves in a position to be fooled by the slightest chance there is hope for RU MBB and leave themselves open to being disappointed. again.

I've been disappointed for many many ( and many more) years, but refuse to give up hope that next season will be the start of something better ( with the same HC or the new one).

I agree that going out on a limb and saying we were going to be bad was not an "earth shattering" prediction.

And I would also be reluctant to look back if my initial response looked like this:
Nonsense, Jordan is moving in the right direction. The only questions will be from the usual anti-Jordites...........and Willis run a sub-4.3

I have no idea what point you are making, but, have a great day....lol

I am not taking sides. Didn't do it with Flood. Not doing it here. After 50 years of waiting for RU to make it to the mountaintop I am numb. Hire this guy Fire that guy The damage has become deeply structural in both sports. If it was just the coach or just the Jersey kids loathing us or just the curse of being Rutgers or just the fanbase or the student apathy or just the substandard facilties or the just the 25 years of failure I could fathom these silly threads. But it isn't. It is all of those things. And if we don't mow them down one at a time then the same guys and probably their kids and grandkids will be conducting these same debates ad infinitum..Fire EJ? Keep EJ? Doesn't matter really.
