So when Franklin gets fired

In the coming years PSU will be embarking on a massive fund-raising program for the refurbishment of Beaver Stadium. Schiano is not inspiring people to open their wallets.

We'll be just as competitive against Michigan as your team was, douche, and you'll be just as competitive against OSU as we were. In case you didn't notice Washington just skull dragged #7 Stanford 44-6.
Again I don't see your point over arguing over who is the biggest loser...I think we'll actually show a pulse on offense against Ohio state and I'd bet that Rutgers scores no more than a field goal against Michigan...but congratulations for getting curb stomped by a good Washington team...that's what you want right? Recognition that you played a good team?

This is so true. One of my best friends was a walk-on at PSU, lives in State College, was a fund-raiser for the Second Mile and is close to the program and big PSU supporters. They see the Sandusky mess as a we (as in We Are Penn State) versus the world issue.
This is actually a very true comment, we DO see this is an us against the world mentality, but your view of that is very much different than reality...the outside world thinks that all
PSU supporters somehow "enabled"
This and that we ALL have a culture problem...there are hundreds of thousands of PSU alumni and millions of fans that aren't alumni that had nothing to do with this but have been drug through the mud...I don't know ANYONE who is ashamed to have a PSU degree because of this btw...so yes the PSU community world wide rallied together in the face of adversity to say...the actions of a FEW will Not define us as a school or a community like so many of you want to think...I don't expect you to understand because at the first sign of adversary your fan base falls apart - see lack of fan support and donations under the Flood mess - but the point is many of you want to make
It out that the "Sandusky mess" is being swept under the rug, when the truth is, we as a community do not want to be labeled as enablers or having a culture problem due to the actions of one sick man and perhaps the inactions of many many others in political, law enforcement and administrative duties.

It does define you when you have a day dedicated to your head coach who let this terrible thing happen. SMH. You will never get it. Football will always be more important then the well being of kids at PSU it was proven when you had a Joe Paterno day.

Even the Onion had an article on it.

Did you just use the onion as something to attempt to strengthen your argument? Good Lord.

They're making fun of you because that's how much of a joke it is. It's reached the level of absurdity. Good lord. Would you like a New York times article on it? What about a Washington Post article? Because they exist too.

Complete denial. You will never get it.

I don't know what's funnier, that you guys think Greg Schiano has even a 1% chance of becoming PSU's coach or that he was even mentioned in the same sentence as "National Championship."

In the coming years PSU will be embarking on a massive fund-raising program for the refurbishment of Beaver Stadium. Schiano is not inspiring people to open their wallets.
National Championship and the Buckeyes make Schiano's HC chances much better and might be a better than 1% shot to replace Franklin, but I think a 10% shot might be the ceiling.
Didn't think Schiano was a very popular candidate for Nit boosters after RU didn't take advantage of their 2006 season and never proved itself to be better than a pretty good to good program.
But he did inspire more RU fans to start attending RU FB games, so you never know how he'll do on the fundraising trail.

As for refurbishing Beaver Stadium, hope the showers there were already refurbished, or at least fumigated, so most of the stench is gone from the Paterno years.

No chance Schiano is hired for PSU. They won't want anyone associated with Paterno or Sandusky. Especially someone who may have witnessed the abuse.

But who know I wouldn't put anything past them.

The day was actually to celebrate his first team...they had the entire 1966 team on hand...but don't let the facts get in the way of your narrative and that put out by the media...it's not like Joe's family was honored on the field

My bad. I thought September 17 was to celebrate Joe Paterno day. I didn't realize it was just celebrating the 1966 team.

That being the case, PSU shouldn't have named it "Joe Paterno Day" . I think that's what caused my confusion.

...........and once again we have another statepennut who will never get it...

no. no one thinks an entire university anally penetrated and forcibly sodomized young boys in the shower of state college. And no one outside of cowtown, PA really cares how you morons "rallied" against the world.

what the entire world realizes is: a culture of win-first, everything else second created an environment where the horror was, not only possible, but actually happened.

The culture hasn't changed.

that's the second crime that's been committed. And why the death penalty should have been exercised by the NCAA.

Yeah they should have stuffed and mounted Joe Pa like a trophy buck...that would get the wallets open. Missed opportunity.

And I DO know 2 penn state graduates who are embarrassed by the scandal. They liken the Paterno nuts to the people who believed OJ was innocent. They stopped going to their 1-2 PSU home games per year.

That's why the NCAA backed off. Also, where is your evidence of "anal rape". Link it.

That team included a grad assistant in his first year coaching .
Sandusky served as a graduate assistant for the Penn State football team in 1966

Wonder if in honor of that game the Warden allowed Jerry to watch the ceremony
in his cell. Seems like Penn St didn't mind honoring Jerry by saying they were honoring the 1966 team ,on Joe "The Enabler" Day

Are you nuts? Name people on an anonymous message board? Why? So the cult can hunt them down and harass them? Two of my good friends who I grew up with...all that matters. Both logistics majors.
I know of more than 2 Rutgers alums that were embarrassed by floods antics and gave up the 1-2 games they watch from home...

Your whole arguement is null and void based on your continued use of "culture" just because Louis freeh used the word in his unsubstantiated report doesn't mean it's true, we also have a culture where we raise millions of dollars per year for cancer research but I know you all like to bash THON as well which just further shows your agenda rather than logic

Dude...just...no.

Don't even try to compare a minor Rutgers scandal with a coach that pretty much everyone is happy is gone to Joe Pa and Sandusky. This just makes you look worse.

Do you think Rutgers is ever going to have a Kyle Flood day? Absurd.

THON is wonderful, but if I hear another JoeTard use it as an excuse or a caveat to the cover up I'm going to throw up. THON does not somehow nullify or lessen the despicable acts that happened and were covered up by the university.

There is something terribly wrong with a culture that continues to honor a coach who helped cover up such a putrid act in the face of the victims. It's disgusting. Don't you get it? It shows that you care more about football then the actual victims and everytime you honor him you are throwing dirt in the face of the victims. What will it take for you to understand that?

You guys need to get over Joe Pa and move on. Get another coach who will return you to national prominence. Forget about Joe Pa. Everything from that era needs to be lit on fire and forgotten about.

LOL, that's two more then members of the cult did when the truth about Penn St's Coach Emeritus became public knowledge and how Joe "The Enabler" protected him
after Sandusky was caught molesting a child.
Even the knowledge that Penn St has been paying out for that pervert since the 70s had any of the cult get disgusted about keeping that monster part of the FB program
and have them give up that pervert protecting program.

You're barking up the wrong tree here Sport.

If you wanted to cite the NYT or WP, then you should have.

The interchange between the two Penn Staters up-thread reminds me of something I often wonder: if a similar set of events went down at Maryland, how would I react and what would be my public position?

I'd like to think I'd have an honorable attitude about it, and concede the likeliness that horrible crimes were ignored by somebody I admired (which is my personal assessment of what happened). But I'll bet it would get old having everybody expect me to get on my knees and beg for forgiveness all the time. I think KJB does a great job of straddling that line while still expressing his pride PSU, and sticking up for them when needed.

I guess I would just not discuss it, if that's possible...

p.s. I think highly of KJB based on his posts here. I don't know NTLION.

I used the Onion to point out the absurdity of the whole situation and what it has become. I'm aware it is satirical news. That was the point.

I realize you're not a JoePa bot type. I'm just dumbfounded by those who still are.

OK pal. I'm not about to put the names of two close friends on a message board to appease some lunatic. We get it...you think absolutely no alumni are disgusted by the events that apparently transpired on your campus for the better part of 20 years (that we know of). I know 2 personally who are. Listen I have nothing against Penn State...it's a good university. I do however find it sad that so many people care about the reputation of a ball coach whom they likely never knew personally and who has been in the ground for 5 years. So do my friends. Who really gives a fvck whether or not Joe Paterno was a good guy or not? Why does it matter at this point?

I admit I spend way too much time on these boards but I'm mostly discussing football/recruiting. I'll be damned if I ever spent hours defending some man who I didn't even know and who didn't give a s#it about me. I guess my memories of visiting my grandparents in Central PA are accurate: there really is jack- s#it to do out there other than Penn State athletics.

I also find it amusing. The unrivaled psu who should be winning championships is trying to keep their heads above bowl water.

You lost me at should be winning Championships.

Seven wins. How many years you think before that's a reality with your program?

Well we did it 2 years ago with a head coach who, well let's just say isn't a Big Ten caliber coach. So I'd say by 2018 or 2019 we'd realistically expect that again. Not saying it's a given though. Of course Ash could be a bust. This year will likely be 4-8 and next year we'd be lucky to get 6.
