Football is a game of moments. Bo and Levy had a few very bad moments today of being out of position.

We allowed the Illinois QB to escape pockets 5 times today when we had him contained.

The time out is whatever, I can see arguments for and against calling it. The last pass play defense was very, very bad. All levy has to do is keep contain and the WR is bottled up. Bo also should have been with him as we were in a match up zone. We lit the QB up and he made a nice throw, the run after the catch is unacceptable.

When we scored with a minute left I was very, very worried. I actually wanted to see us run the ball to burn more clock.

The fumble by AK was really influential in the game, all of our missed sacks were really influential in the game, our continued poor zone pass defense is a major issue.

Learn and grow is all we can do. No one is getting fired for this.

The positive is that I think our offense is showing what it can really do for the rest of the season and next year. I like Higgins. Miller still has too many drops.

I should add I do not like icing the kicker. I wanted to save the TOs in case he made the kick. But ive known coaches that always do it. I do not have the data on kicks made or not made after a TO, from distances etc.

But I can tell you what new piece of data I am going to compile into my data folder.

This circumstance the odds of him MISSING it were probably 80-20… so it’s a dumb call. He was already “iced “…. Crazy

Greg is that guy that almost every company has. The smartest guy in the room who often makes a bad or dumb decision, but will never admit to making a mistake and will continue to act like he is the smartest guy in the room. A slice of humble pie would have been nice to see in today's presser.

What is film review in front of the entire team like for Levy , that’s what I’d like to know . Does the kid even show up to the Hale center tomorrow or is he looking at transferring down already

He's a freshmen. He's gonna be a good player.

Old rule is every freshmen you rely on is a loss. They will always be freshmen.

Agree with you on the probability. On the other side Moczulski does have the longest FG in the program's history and as evidenced by his practice kick he certainly had the distance in those conditions, just not the accuracy due to the wind. Also not a fan of icing the kicker at the last second as that gives him a practice kick. Prefer a pre setup time out if that comes into play.

Is AK back next year or is this his last year of eligibility?

I say you’re a little high on that probability from that distance. There was 0 chance he was making it from near 60 yards. There was 20% from 35-40 yards. 10% from 40-45. And nearly zero from further. As I said I watched specials warming up in easier conditions an hour before the game and they were struggling beyond 35.

But agree time out was insane.

The defense is the defense. We tried but it wasn't good enough. Their QB is a good athlete.

#28 didn't contain on 1 TD to the left. #44 didn't contain on the QB TD to the right. Their QB evaded #82 on the TD throw(3rd and 12 from the 15?). GS defenses have always struggled containing the edge.

We didn't come up with any of the contested deep throws (excellent placement by AK today). Duff had a bad drop. The others were well defended but we have to make some of those catches. It felt like a "C" game at best from the group.

I thought today was the most complete game by KC.

we still had timeouts left after the one used to "ICE" the kicker. I was jumping for joy not knowing Greg called the timeout.
OK, so you blow the call. But he should have called another timeout when Illinois returned the offense to the field to reset the defense and calm everyone down, The goal was to prevent a touchdown, not to sack the QB. With a timeout, maybe they realize rushing 7 is not the best choice and that 90% chance they were throwing to their number 1 receiver. Let's double cover him. Bad defensive decision that compounded the Freeze the kicker decision.

I heard GS interviewed on radio.
He said he called the TO based "on a feeling" and if he made the right call he would be a hero and if not he would be ridiculed.
Sounded like just a gamble.
I've seen enough FG TOs bomb to know I don't like them - they are really just a roll of the dice.

I haven't see the last TD yet but announcer said RU was in Cover 0 which meant nobody was deep.
When a team has 250 yds passing on only 12 passes - Pat Bryant the TD scorer has 197 - I'm not sure about leaving pass defense exposed in Cover 0.

Fun game but it seems like best team won in the end.
Hard to beat a ranked team giving-up 250 yds on 12 passes

Can't call 2 TO's in a row in college. Greg mentioned in the presser.

They rushed 6 and put 4 deep with Powell underneath. Levy had the chance to contain him and jumped top side.

In the last play, Longerbeam seemed to be playing like the other DBs were going to make the play. Longerbeam has the speed to get in the play as the WR slowed to make a move. But he mostly trailed. It could be because he was injured. And #24 seemed to be anticipating where the WR was going to go, and he guessed wrong which allowed the WR to get behind him and around him. He should have attack the WR directly. Maybe the potential speed of that WR had 24 playing cautiously. Anyway, lessons learned the hard way are lessons remembered, the young guys will improve.

WHY ???????
RU knew that the QB had to make a long throw and needed time for the receivers to get down field, so they guessed they could pressure him to make a bad throw. And the DB's were deep to keep everything in front of them. That worked but the guy got away.

Watching it again, Longerbeam was covering the gap between Levy and Loyal but the WR got the chance to not go through the gap.

#1 wee ran the dig, the #2 ran the vertical, and th #3 cleared out. Their appears to be a miscommunication on passing off vs staying with their man.

Should've gone to the Jim Schwartz style Sticks D on that 4th down play at the end, guarding the 1st down line.
Yep there was no need to bring pressure with more than 2. Keep the ball in front of you and in bounds. Illinois had no timeouts left. Even if they got a first down. Clock restarts on spotting of the ball.

Fellas looked lost - like every guy thinks another guy is responsible for making the play

I would donate more if I get to be in the film review with the team for this play , I’d like to see the secondary also be running extra sprints til they throw up, like we all did today

I disagree big time. What do u prefer they do there? Kick or go for 4-13? I’m was thrilled they were kicking. Even if we tackled the WR the clock stops to move the chains in college and they spike and line up for a 33 yarder!

So why would u ever call time out even before the kick to maybe have an assistant question WTF are we kicking coach? Get a first and spike it gives us a much better chance.

Why would u call time out when they r lineup for a very very difficult kick . Makes NO sense. Brain fart.

No, don’t they wait to move the chains ?

1 - Gotta wonder if QB had another 2 seconds could he have thrown to the deep receiver? ( 40 yard throw)
2- when we blitz , the gaps look terrible
3- if we tackled him at the 15 yard line would they had had any time left for another field goal try?

Agree. Bielema made a bad call in sending the FG unit out... should have let him live with that. Instead, we show him how that decision would play out and let him reconsider with more input. I actually laughed when I saw their kicker setting up - once they got pushed back to the 40, I thought for sure they would have to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking.
