Only if the Big Ten had decided to stay at 12 and decided they didn't want to make a insane amount of money..
Actually the ACC and the Big12 was the other two conferences that did look our way, but we were a better fit at the Big Ten since thanks to how the Big Ten is set-up with the BTN and their TV contracts being up for renewal we stood to make the Big Ten far more money than we could any other conference.
The Big Ten knew they could make a boat load of money by adding Rutgers. I don't think the Big 12 or the ACC would have made a boat load of money by adding us. We would had just been a travel partner for WVU at the Big 12, and we didn't add much besides keeping the Big Ten away from the biggest TV market for the ACC.
It was B1G or bust for dear old Rutgers.
We kept the acc on ice, only to reject their offer. The administration had the good sense to shoot for the stars.
