Basketball St. John's outlasts No. 25 Rutgers Basketball in scrimmage

Derkack was a pleasant surprise yesterday. Didn't know what to expect from him making the jump from NEC. Kid was all over the place. Aggressive rebounder, great defender. Made an incredible block out of nowhere.

Pike will need to find minutes for Tyson when he's back to full strength.

Definitely some things to work on, including the defenses lapses at the end. But this team can have a very high ceiling.

Since it was only an exhibition, I would’ve liked to see Grant and Dortch getting a couple minutes in the first half, when we had a good lead.
Me too. Why not give them a couple minutes experience in a game that doesn't count.

I've said it before but if Derkack doesn't get significant minutes we must have one helluva team.

He shot 29% from 3 last year...that doesn't give me warm fuzzies.

The good news is we have so many bodies on the perimeter. This isn't 2022-23 when our season was shot because 1 guy got hurt.

If we assume Martini EO and Somerville equal 40 at the 5...

Assume Harper 32 and Ace 32....that leaves 96

dercack jwill jamike pj acuff

I think they all eat but not sure how much food they each get
Hoping with less pressure and focus he reverts to a couple years ago where I thought he was up around 34%, which is likely better than we get from JWill, JD, and Derkack.

Yeah, the rotation will probably be match up and whose hot dependent night to night.

I am guessing the high volume attempts go away

Acuff is a college career 81% FT shooter and 33% 3 pt shooter. He’s also a “difficult shot” maker driving to the hoop. Too bad he isn’t 6’6” and a great rebounder…but as a third option on offense he might be fairly consistently efficient.

How good were we? And is not having a center/rebounding going to keep us from being elite?
